I finally got around to removing my broken D&D Pipe off my bike.
Hats off to the guys at D&D. I called their tech linee earlier this week and explained my plight. They informed me its no problem, they will arrange for Fed Ex to pick up the pipe and take a look at it. He said, more than likely - I will have a new pipe. Usually the guys in the finishing department cant redo the finish on the broken pipes and they just replace it.

Josh, after I get the pipe back from D&D I will contact you.

With our furthe A-do (adiue?) here are the pics. You guys on dialup, Im sorry.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention.
Man that was one greasy job.
The dealership just replaced my primary cover (warranty work - god I live my dealership) due to a stripped thread on the primary, and I had a little bit of an oil spill when I changed the oil last week (when I noticed by pipe was busted)

Hey Austin, did you strip the primary or did they? I'm just wondering since mine is stripped out and I was the last one to open it.

Phil... Could you do me a HUGE favor and let me know what the inside diameter of each pipe is? Thanks in advance : ).

Jason -
Originally they stripped them out. They did a quick Heli-Coil fix and it lasted until the next time the fluids were changed out.

I called Buell customer service, they said that once the dealer checks it out (obvious for abuse) then it is a warranty covered item. Who would use a steel bolt on an aluminum case? Seems to me this may be a chronic problem for us, IF we dont follow the proper torque specs on it.

M1combat - All 3 pipes? I will shoot ya a pm when I get back from work tomorrow with the info.

Deerhunter -
Know of a way to get rid of them?
The are killing my dogfood costs.

I have 4 dogs, and I have to feed them outside due to work schedules.

I've thought of an owl outside, but havent heard of much luck with those. Any suggestions are Greatly welcomed on the bird problem

Where I work, we have an area of the facility that is fenced in, and they have audio of a screech owl that scares off birds.

It works well for the birds, but it does not stop the new admissions to the jail.

It seems like there are a lot of folks with this issue - I wonder how long it takes a manufacturer to concede that there is a problem and then change the welds to actually correct it. If they send out the exact same product as a replacement, isn't it reasonable to expect the exact same results?

I think I would like to buy a D&D but not if it is just a matter of time until I have to send it back . . .

That's not broken at a weld. It appears that the weight of the plate and chin fairing combined with the shake-rattle-and-roll just made it snap.

-=shrugs=-

I like my race can, I've got a Drummer to replace it with, and even if I liked the sound or performance of a D&D more I wouldn't spend more money on a muffler, with or without broken mounts.

Good point as far as it not being on the welds - I don't know why that was stuck in my head.

I guess it is just hard for me to justify spending more on a product that has such known weakness as this plate.

Other D&D and buyers/dealers - how do you justify it? Have they said anything has changed in the way they build them?

Mr. Cuell --
I would gladly put another D&D on my bike, this pipe offers something that I want - its loud at an affordable price.

It is not a horrible performer either.

AustinRider,

man, you gotta wash your bike every now and then. That thing looks like hell! Mine's been on my bike for almost a year and still looks good.

/raises his hands to the heavens

"The Lord washes my bike. The Lord shall keep it clean"

Actually, most of the time it sits outside (no garage to speak of). I have 3 male dogs (see where this is headed yet?) who INSIST the back and front tires of my motorcycle are their territory.
I gave up keeping the damn thing clean until I get into a house with a garage (offer out on a house as we speak).

mines cracking ON the weld at the bottom of that mounting bracket
and stress cracking out from there
just a matter of time ( or one too many wheelies)
before mine looks like that

wow... I dunno. I've had mine almost a year, and I prolly do as many wheelies as anyone else and mine looks fine.

I do notice that the "Y" pipe on mine is different than AustinRider's. Maybe a later generation of pipe? It's a true "Y" rather than one pipe welded to another, like an intersection. -err... don't know if that sounds right or not. I'll try to take a pic to compare tomorrow.
