Use NGK DPR9-IEX9 Iridium plugs. They work much better than the Buell things and won't foul.

Assuming one uses the NGK;s above, do you have a recommended gapping?

TIA,

Chris

NGK recommends DCPR8E (regular) and KR8AI (Iridium plugs) for XB.

Why if I go to NGK website for UK does it give me a different set of numbers to both those quoted so far?

Namely DCPR7E (Regular) & DCR7EIX (Iridium)

Usually you can go to an autozone & they can use the number on the plug to cross reference to any other ones available.

I dont buy plugs at the dealership emporiums anymore. Why pay 2-3 times the amount any auto store will charge?

I have had very very good luck with the platinum plugs in my Harley. Tried several other types & while they all worked great when new, the platinums would just run & run & run forever it seemed.

I am definitely sold on them for the time being.

Maybe the spark plug numbers are different for European bikes because they run on a higher octane fuel. My guess.

What's the recommended octane for European Buell XB, anyone know?

If you notice, the general difference is in the heatrange of the plugs. As to your question Gaz, that is the listing for the X1 also.

I use Iridium spark plugs by NGK. The part # for Firebolt's is KR8AI. The stock # is 5477. I got mine at Advance Auto Parts and they used the 5477 number to order it for me.

I set the gap to Buell specs at 0.035 initially. But, when I was trying to diagnose a backfire and sputtering problem, I found out that NGK recommends a plug gap of 0.040, so I pulled them and changed it to see if it made a difference. I changed a couple other things so no data to verify if it helped at all. No problems with the NGK's.

Mike.

Our NGK Plugs are $4 bucks a pop. We have 3 types of wire sets:

1. Buell Race $20.00

2. DELPHI Race with self vulcanizing tape $80.00

3. Buell Pro-Race, Silicon Boots with Self Vulcanizing Tape $90.00

this a good deal?
daveS can ya beat it?
these prices are from the infamous corey james so i dunno if its a shady deal or not

Ahh...more snake oil.

Not saying that you can't find plug wires that are a higher grade than the stock XB wires (better boots, etc.), but don't believe any of the junk about them making a performance gain.

...even if it WAS a good deal I wouldn't buy anything from him.

OK amigo, didn't have the manual handy at the time and flip-flopped the gap settings. The erroneous numbers have been corrected.
