There is a cool review video of the first MotoGP race in Qatar, it starts after the Kawasaki commercial. Probably the last year for the 800cc engines. There are some cool shots in the video:

"Rossi on the Ducati is gonna be good"

Stoner, Lorenzo, and Pedrosa have to crash or blow up first. Like it or not, Honda and Yamaha have a far better grip on the situation than Ducati...maybe if Rossi was completely healthy he would do better...time will tell...

Yeah like when he left Honda and their world beating bike and went to Yamaha and their slowest pig of a bike?

Honda spent a ridiculous amount of money last winter to try to win the last 800cc title before it changes back to 800cc and 1000cc engines next year. The last title that Honda won was with Nicky in 2006 which was 5 years ago. Honda was one on the major companies that supported the change in 2007 to go from 990cc bikes to 800cc. Now that the rule only allows 6 engines over 18 races, Honda came up with a new type of transmission that is faster than the other bikes. In the last race on average it took Ducati to shift gears 0.042s, Yamaha 0.027s and Honda 0.008s, although this might seem insignificant, over a race distance this amounts to about 8 seconds advantage. Since only the engines have to last 6 races, Honda can swap their new transmission every race or even after qualifying.

Next year should be interesting when the rules change to allow 1000cc production engines to be put in prototype chassis to race with the 800cc bikes. This is why BMW and Aprilia are racing in World Superbike, so that they will be ready next year to move up to MotoGP if they want. This is why the Aprilia RSV4 and the BMW S1000RR exist.

I'm a Rossi fan too, but it will take a few races for Ducati to sort out their bike, and by that time it could be too late to win the championship.

Should be an interesting season once Rossi gets healthy

Injuries must have been serious for Rossi. I figured after a full off season that shoulder would be 100% or at least not hindering him.

I'll correct this for you
Honda was the major company that schemed, backslaped and backstabed the change in 2007 to go from 990cc bikes to 800cc.

Wait, what? PRODUCTION 1000cc engines?!? I haven't been following MotoGP as closely as I would like, but really?

There is an explanation on this website how the transmission works, which is kind of ironic that Honda had to apply for a patent to keep this their design and make it public, or they could have keep it a secret and then risk of somebody else coming up with the design.

In addition, a lot of people were against the 800cc bikes, but I liked that MotoGP went that way. The excuse they used for the smaller engine was to make the bikes safer, but what they didn't realize is that with a smaller engine they were able to produce greater corner speed, and most crashes happen in the corner. I was always a bigger fan of great handling 600cc bikes than the hard to control 1000cc machines.
