Does the Race Kit exhaust for the 12xbr have a interactive exhaust system too? If not, can the race kit for XB9r be used instead? What is the difference between the two kits? Thanks in advance Tatsu | ||

The race kit does not use an interactive muffler. I dont think there is a difference in the race kit mufflers for the 9 vs the 12. | ||

you can't use the wrong ecm but have put 12 ex on 9's for the shinny look. | ||

I know that the ECMs are __NOT__ the same. You can however use the air filter and exhaust can if they physically fit. | ||

While shopping for 9R or 12R recently the dealer told me this. The race kit brings the 9R to life by enhancing the low and mid range which makes it drive more like the 12R on the street. On the 12R the race kit actually makes it less peppy at the low end but adds a lot on top (well as far as it will rev that is) so it's better for the track but degrades the street performance. They recommended if I get a 9 to get the race kit but if I get a 12 to NOT get the race kit. | ||

So what would make the 12 a lot more "peppy"? The throttle response is a little bit slow and the stock muffler just plain out sucks as far as the sound is concern. I am really leaning towards the drummer set up. (Drummer, Race ECM and Race air filter) The problem is the bike is my primary mode of transportation, so I can't afford to be down for a long period of time. Which means I will need to find a stock pipe (looking) for the drummer conversion. I don't race on a track, however I am more concern about the low end, than high. I love the low end power. That what I want off the line. I have already conceded the "high speed" end to the Japanese bikes, but I love it when I see a Hayabusa slow way down on the curves and I dip inside them and pull away. Cldwthrrider, That dealer's a moron. The Buell Race Kit makes it power at the top end, NOT the low end - for both setups, 9 and 12. I have the full kit on my 9 - soon to be swapped for the Drummer, which is sitting in my garage. For best low end grunt bang for the buck - the Drummer's the way to go. The only difference in the two kits, as noted, is the ECM. You cannot use the 9's ECM in the 12. Bryan | ||

I have a 12R with a DRUMMER. As has been noted before, the 12 muffler is VERY good and the ONLY reason to change is for more sound. For the cost of any pipe for a 12 verses the minimal gain I'd leave it alone unless you're like me and you want your bike to sound like a sport bike and not a vacuum cleaner. Of all the pipes, I felt the DRUMMER was the best choice for all around riding and now with 4300 miles on it I am NOT disappointed!! You will, of course need the race ecm and filter... | ||

I need to get rid of the vacuum. When I pull up to my riding group, the guys are like wow we didn't even hear you. Not to mention, I have been almost run over several times. I think the bike is too quiet with the stock muffler. I need some volume! Tatsu | ||

most pipes are pretty close in performance that if 1 or 2 hp's matter than look and sound are what you want to look for |
