Just went for a ride. It's 38F here now. I have no heated gear, just a good set of gloves, and a knowledge of how to add layers of clothing to stay warm. It's supposed to be 28F by 5am. I think I'll take the bike tomorrow. Low moisture, so less chance of ice. 40 minute ride to work. Anybody else have a weird tolerance for cold? I actually like this stuff. Thats why I live in WI. I just miss riding the couple/few months the roads are salted. Another thing we do in WI.   Time to open that 24oz Heine! I look forward to the ride in the morning. | ||

I like to bundle up and ride when it is cold. I used to commute 50 miles to work, 3rd shift, and in the morning scrape the frost off my seat. Coldest I've ridden in is mid-teens. No heated gear either. | ||

i'm going to ride tomarrow and its suposed to be like 31 tomarrow when i leave for school....it'll warm up to the upper 50's by mid day though | ||

i'm originally from wisconsin an i miss the cold and the snow! i cant wait to ride again in cold weather! were moving to Savannah Georgia soon, and i'll still be able to ride most of the yeah similar to being on the rock here. | ||

FYI, from the gloves thread in QuickBoard... The Cortech Scarab are hot when the temperature is about 55 degrees. I haven't ridden in colder yet so I can not comment. They are a little more clumsy than the Adrenaline gloves due to the extra bulk and being tight, hopefully they will stretch a little as I use them. Otherwise pretty comfy and should do fine to about 40. | ||

I really like the cold weather. I just layered up and used my snowboarding cloths - I've never used heated gear (except for grips). As long as there wasn't much snow or ice on the road, I would ride. Colorado was a 12 month riding season for me. I unfortunately don't see much cold weather now that I live in Houston, TX. It's the heat that kills me. I hardly rode at all between May and now save for a couple of surprisingly mild weeks in September. Then it was hot again though today is pretty nice. I hope it stays that way. | ||

I did 60 miles or so last night. 36 and clear out. My bike LOOOOOOVES to wheelie in he cold stuff. I'm using a pair of Buell fleece gloves. They're awesome. No cold problems here! | ||

I did a few rides last winter when the temp was mid 20's low 30's. Actually got a reckless last november for a wheelie on one of those cold days. As far as gear goes, I usually just throw on a couple of extra long sleeve shirts, my riding boots, jeans, my normal gauntlets. Then I stuff the inside pockets of my jacket (perfed leather with a liner) with hand warmers, as well as one hand warmer in the palm of each glove, hand warmers in the front pockets of my jeans. However when it is cold, I try to keep a half tank or less of gas in the bike, the heat off the frame really helps. | ||

Ian, I'm about 50 miles from you and don't put the bike up for winter. I head to work at 5:00 most mornings. 17 degrees seams to be the temp where my thumbs start to get cold on long rides. At 7 degrees they get cold between 10 and 15 miles out. When it is cold on the ride, I feel more alive. | ||

I try to ride year round, I was just curious what for pants you wear or gear under them to stay warm. Up top I'm fine, but my legs usually get a little cold. | ||

I wear a pair of the brown poly long johns that are found at Bass Pro. I put a set of cotton over those with jeans on that, and I'm good to about 30 degrees with no restriction on movement. Wool socks with engineer type leather boots. | ||

Stretchy pajama bottoms with jeans over them and wind-breaker jogging pants over them. +1 on the wool socks and boots with thinsulate. Below 17 degrees it is long johns, jeans, insulated jump suit, and rain pants over the outside. Same socks and boots. | ||

I ride most of the year. I try not to ride if it is below 35 degrees. That means I miss about two weeks out of the year here. Why? Well, in the city there are just too many water leaks on the roads and therefore too much black ice. Hard too see in the morning when it is still dark. Colder than that and it has to be daylight so I can see what's on the road. If I am to be out all day, I use my bicycle gear underneath. Pearl Izumi is great stuff.....very abrasion resistant too. | ||

I'm a woose...actually no, but some medical factors make me cold intolerant...I ride in the cold...but it is with Gerbing heated EVERYTHING! | ||

There was a thick layer of frost on the ground when I took off this morning. I got a good 120 miles in today. Gotta take the car tomorrow (dammit!). Should be a good week........can't complain for a Monday. Then again......nobody's gonna listen anyway!  | ||

I have to ride home @ 1:00 a.m. its 34 degrees out now. I also enjoy riding in the cold, gave up the snowmobile so why not. As long as there isnt salt on the ground I will ride one of the Buells. My only real problem with the cold is fog in the helmet, I wear glasses so most breath boxes dont cut it. Z-wax has fixed that for me  When it is real cold I just throw the insulated carhart bibs on and I'm good. We bought Jennys bike last January and I rode it 120 miles across Wisco, rain half way home. Kinda sucked but only my toes got cold. Makes me want to put hand warmers on the 12r this winter. | ||

I don't know about the Joe Rocket suits. The AlpineStar's DryStar Jacket with liner is comfortable and stays dry inside when it is raining. | ||

does zero count as weird? I am way to Hispanic to be able to handle the cold, if its under 70 I'm shivering  but I rode today anyway, it was 55 when I left and 35 when I got home. afterwords I put on my buell waterproof fleece hoodie and jumped under my wool military blanket and shivered for over an hour. I'm still cold 3 hours later it was so worth it though | ||

 Do it a couple more times, and you will be amazed at how much heat your body will produce. Each time you will shiver less. | ||

I'm going for a club ride this Sunday, so this morning, I dragged out my gear for testing...heated jacket...check....heated gloves...check....heated pants...check...'lectric sox....check...silk baclava....check. Good to go!!!!  | ||

To develop tolerance for cold weather, take cold baths. I did it one year when I was young so that I could go snorkeling in the winter in Indiana. I rode in weather so cold that year that I froze the skin on my thighs with ski bibs on. | ||

Here in Tampa Bay it got down to 68 last night. 66 with the wind chill. I don't know how you northern riders do it. |
