Ummm... 160 mph? That sounds like a REAL stretch. Sounds like that is "projected speed based on Dyno".

What would an XBR need to hit an honest 160? I would think something in the range of 150 RWHP minimum, probably more. His engine has a nice set of mods, but nothing I am seeing there that would put it anywhere near that.

I don't think a XB is geared to go 160 at 7500 RPM where the rev limiter hits,so I don't believe that it will do 160

LOL...that's Corey's bike - as in from the whole Brion/James stack fiasco.

When I asked him about how he could claim to do 160mph on a Firebolt, I got a list of modifications to the engine. I said, that's all well and good, but the bike is physically incapable of 160mph - the gearing's not tall enough.

...then he 'confided' in me that the bike had an experimental 6-speed tranny in it.

What a load of bullshit. Those guys are pathological liars.

Dyna, not that I am supporting their claim or anything but they might have installed the Baker XL6 6-speed transmission kit.

Somehow, a 160mph Buell that probably cost over 16 grand, and is worth half that, does not sound that appealing to me.

Draoidh, I don't think you can in an XB. Baker doesn't make one for them. The tranny is different.

Read his bs list, I cut it down a bit for simplicity

XB12 Air Box - Cut with a Prototype Open Air Box design and SVVS Vortex Cone

Custom Race ECM - 12.5 AFV, 5% high-RPM timing retard, Delphi wiring harnesses
- Techlusion Processor

- Buell Race Kit

- Custom Ground Race Cam
That is it... otherwise, she has a stocker 984cc engine with only mild extrude hone and polish to the heads -

She will do every bit of 160 MPH! Not too bad for almost all stock and turns in 89.5rwHP

Hmm supposedly a chooped air box & a custom race ecm...thats pure bs. Anyways then he claims he also has the Buell race kit installed...I thought the race kit was ecm, filter & muffler? All that supposed work & he might have the Buell race muffler?????????? What a waste.

And then he claims custom ground race cam. Cool so now they only have a single cam instead of 4? Idiot.

Add that in with his ridiculous 160mph claim & I really dont know what to say.

An indicated 142 mph is probably due to speedo error. Most motorcycles speedo's are optimistic, probably to keep the insurance companies mollified.

420, it seems that some nice gents took a stock XB12 out to the salt flats and with official type timing gear...were only able to pull a measely 125mph...Seems the revlimiter kept cutting in making it a bit difficult to get much more out of it...

420dude - the carbon bike is mine. Kind of flattering they have the picture up, but I am not affiliated with them in any way.

As a rule of thumb, from much respected powers that be, 10% more speed will require 33% more HP. For the reasons posted above their speed, and other claims, are not realistic.

The bikes usually run about 6% optimist on the speedo, and the error gets to around 10% at higher speeds. If you truly think you're going 147 on a bone stock bike you need to be headed out to the salt flats and set some records.
Dyna, you forgot those plug wires, I forgot which ones, but you know what I'm talking about!

420,
I not going to say your speedo didn't say 142.

I will say, and know for a fact, that if you calculate the final drive ratio with maximum engine speed (rev limit), it calculates out to 132 and change. That is the mechanical maximum speed, with stock gearing, if you have zero wheelspin. Mathematical fact, plain and simple.

This is from the Corey James home page:

quote:

Welcome to the XB9R/S Enthusiast Website
(BRAG Members, since April 2002)

We specialize in customized and highly modified bikes primarily in the engine department with some really innovative and neat "go-fast" modifications including Cryogenic Metals Treatments, Extrude Hone Processes, Extensive Head Preparations and transmission/gearing changes including ceramic bearings for your XB.

There has been many questions on this website regarding our Cryogenic Metals Treatment, Exhaust & Induction Modifications, ECM's and all our Engine Work that we do for the XB-Series Motors. We hope you listen to our XB Board members and customers and formulate your own opinions... we will help any time that you have a question... feel free to drop us a note or contacts us anytime!

WHAT WE DO:
We do not race our XB's, we are not the proclaimed experts in XB's... We are Engineers however, and we do know the XB Motor very well! The little XB9 in the current form is an excellent motor for the intended purpose for which it was built. We do not recommend 1200cc kits or larger for the XB9.. our specialty is retaining your stock stroke, keeping your R's, enlarging the bore and using state-of-the-art parts, engineering and know-how to ensure your XB9R/S is a strong contender against any other XB Built or for that matter the current stock XB12R/S.

Our engines start out at about 83 rwHP and we can build a pumped up XB9 to about 125 rwHP. 92 rwHP is our average XB9 build. If you want a "BIG BLOCK XB", buy the XB12. If you want a snappy, super-high performance XB9, then look no further... our XB9's will ensure you still enjoy that 2002/2003 XB9 for quite some time to come.

Performance is relative, so are the costs.... depending on how much HP you want dictates the cost and time. We specialize in lots of trick Carbon Fiber components and custom Induction and Air Box Modifications giving you another 2.4-3.0 rwHP just in making a simple modification to the internal Stock Buell Airbox.

See our newest performance product, the Brion-James SVVS!

What we do offer is our ability to give you different levels of modifications availalble for the XB9 Motor that meet your specific requirements to make the XB9 really perform to your full expectations.

Build your XB9 up right for longevity, NOT JUST FOR SPEED! We are here to help all Buller's, just send us the questions:

Corey James makes some interesting claims. It's a bit sad that people are wasting their hard-earned money to line this idiot's pockets.

More from the home page:

quote:

In 2002, the '03 XB9R kept pace with a Suzuki 1300 Hayabusa, 1000 GSXR and cleaned the clock of a Suzuki 750 GSXR. Considering I was riding 2-up, this is very impressive over the Jap Bikes & a true testament to the Firebolt's potential when riding 1 up! USA Torque is more important than Jap-HP!

We have added a specific & dedicated section for our 2002 X1W White Lightning Buell with some special pictures of the X1W. We have posted our 2002 September Buell Brag photographs during our run at Deal's Gap, NC. Please look at all our other pictures posted here... click here.

Specific and detailed Suspension settings for the XB9R Firebolt are now posted on this site and available for your use.

I have learned a great deal in suspension setup for Deal's Gap... out of 7 Buell XB9R Firebolts, there were only 2 left standing after the 2002 BRAG Gap Run... I was one of the two.

Please understand clearly how to set up your suspension.

Be sure to follow the directions and take your time to modify your suspension for the exact type of riding you are going to do.
Note:
Failure to properly setup your suspension especially for quick handling can be quite a deadly combination , be sure you know what you are doing to your bike...

If you do not know how to set up your XB9R Suspension, please e-mail me @ firebolt@inextinc.com

You need a place to check out all your modifications click here, and goto a race track... keep it safe, smart and legal, take it to the track then take this thing to the max.
