Why is it that everybody wants the RACE FUEL MAPS when most people say that someones fuel maps will not probably work in someone else bike. The RACE FUEL MAPS and RACE ECM are all alike and are for general use for all racers. I know there are no 2 bikes alike and there are no 2 cylinders alike. I understand the ECM can do alot of adapting and that data logging with a wide band O2 sensor is the best way to tune your bike for your specific mods. But for the non racers, which is at the min 85% of us, almost everybody says you need to do this and that for these specific mods, but yet everybody cites the GREAT EXHAUST COMPARISON, which uses stock ECM MAPS AND RACE ECM MAPS. I know the first answer is do you really TRUST what the person has done with the fuel maps, ect. I know Xtopi has done alot for people who do not know the ins and outs about tuning ,me included! My question is if the RACE FUEL MAPS ARE THE HOLY GRAIL then why is it that I need to spend 600.00-1000.00 dollars on a key and dyno to get MAYBE 10% MORE HP THAN THE RACE ECM MAPS. I like Al at AMSB and have bought many parts and still will purchase parts thru! This is suppose to be a "COMMUNITY" and a being a community you are suppose to help one another without spite or need for compensation, I think I have drunk enough beer tonight,I just do not understand the whisy washery!

10% hp gain is a lot.

I'm not sure if there was a question in that bit....

To be bluntly honest with you, I have ecm spy. I uploaded the race map for my specific bike to my ecm, did a tps reset. I have a k&n, just no race exhaust. Bike ran like absolute shit.

Got a backpack, threw my laptop in it, went and did lots and lots of data logging. Now the bike runs better than it did the day I bought it.

I'm not a fan of getting ripped off, and I think buying a race ecm, ecm spy or "the cable for 60 bucks" is a rip.

AFV only goes to 105% max, with the stock eeprom it would go as high as 125%

As far as hp/tq gains. I really don't care, I like it the way it runs. It's enough for me so I'm good.

ALL of my tuning efforts are toward an engine that operates smoothly.

Reported on UKBEG: a revision is underway for ECM Spy Tuning Guide.

Does this also mean a revision of ECMspy to go with the new manual?

That would be nice if we got another ECMspy, but its not likely. There was another version in the works supporting more of the DDFI 3 bikes before the plug was pulled.

ECMSpy was free before, what's wrong with hooking people up that don't have it now?

This has come up before, let me try an analogy.

Think of software rights like trespass rights for property.

1) (The "windows license"). You buy the right to cross their land, and they tell you exactly what you bought (right to cross forever) and you pay them.

2) (The GNU Public license). You get a paper saying the owners of the property grant you a non revocable right to cross their land forever. And in return, if you cross, you have to share with us anything cool you find on the other side.

3) (Shareware license). You get a right to cross the property three times. If you want to cross a fourth time you have to pay $15 for the right to cross forever.

4) (Nothing) (This is what ECM spy was). You follow a long line of people crossing the property right in front of the owner, who does not complain. Then one day, the owner of the property puts up a "no trespassing" sign. From that moment on, you do not have a right to cross the property, even though you crossed it before.

(Not saying the IP and software laws make total sense, but they are what they are and they carry legal weight).

And I have no first hand facts... but I suspect the situation with ECM spy was even worse...

Start with the 4th example:

4) (Nothing) (This is what ECM spy was). You follow a long line of people crossing the property right in front of the owner, who does not complain.

The guy letting people cross has 20 miles and lets people cross freely, then person B comes and buys a 2" strip of land right where everyone has to exit after that 20 mile crossing, and says "you have to give me $40 to cross these last 2". Meanwhile, the people operating the toll road this shortcut lets you pass start threating legal action (some possibly valid, some total bs) against the guy letting people cross his 20 acres.

I don't blame him for saying "screw it" and just saying "nobody can cross anymore, I don't need the grief, sorry".

(I have absolutely no knowledge of the case at hand, but I know how these things go...)

I've not read any objections from one of software's authors ("Gunter") regarding sharing the software among enthusiasts.
I've read his cautions about corrupted software.
I've plainly read that further distribution is NOT now endorsed or supported by software's authors/owners.

I have EcmSpy since early 2008 and have the race maps. Would it be better to go ahead and install race maps and then do data logging or just start data logging with stock maps. After I installed the Hawk Performance muffler I went and road the bike for approx 45 min on my high speed testing route and the bike ran fine great acceleration etc. and no decel popping. I had to reconnect computer after this ride because I got trouble light because I thought I had turned off the exhaust valve but did not realize I had to "burn" to save the change. So when I did this I rechecked the fuel maps and they had changed a bunch from when I looked at them before the ride. I want the bike to have the best "overall" performance with these modifications, and my main concern is if the bike is running "lean" now because in all of the other threads they say the bike will be running lean with these mods. Thanks, Dean

Exhaust valve status: on or off @ ecm does not affect engine running if disconnected at muffler.

Good green color & cool rear fender!
