no need to get any panties all wadded up.

there are a LOT more options out there for tuning ECMs. do your research people. i cant stress this enough.

XL: if xopti didnt tell you everything, perhaps its because of your previous 'beef' with him??? i dunno. all i see is whats posted. ....and even a lot of that stuff mysteriously disappears from this site(on a general note) ......which to me, is a lame way to run a website if people arent able to express themselves, ironically, on a message board. hahaha.

regardless of what you got for answers, i can tell you theres no need to use winols to make changes between regular and stock ecm when BOTH eeprom files are available. its that simple. those programs read the same information, just interpreted in different ways. then the end user interprets THAT info, and it goes from there.

ive tuned so many ECMs i cant even count them....from TEC3, MoTeC, Autronic, HPTuners, etc....all those maps on the cars ive worked on are easily seen by anyone who opens the ECM with the software provided. sure they paid for my TIME, but the info on the maps...i cant help what they do with it. unless theu pay for and spend the time for their certifications, more than likely, THEIR tune will be inferior to mine. go to any OTHER performance forum, and ask to see timing tables, fuel maps, etc and GENERALLY people are happy to help with it.

the only expensive software solutions are the ones for the 'tuners' who dont go the extra step in decoding the info in the ECM on their own. which to me, sometimes is better, sometimes its worse. time is money, so its easier for someone to buy $1K software that they can point and click their way through the tuning process, vs trying to decipher the ecm code with unknown results. im the type of person who likes to know whats going on from the bottom up, but ive even been guilty of taking the short time path....all the while, never complaining about what it cost me. i rarely seek 'credible' advice ESPECIALLY online for things of the sort. i also strongly suggest to any of my past customers to be very weary of what you are told by some joe schmoe online. My motto is "Everyones a Pro on the internet!" and its been proven to me time and time again. hahahaha.

even when i give any tuning advice without personally seeing the vehicle i tell the owner that its just a general estimate as to what to do. many things can be calculated though. especially cold start enrichments, elevation adaptations, etc. with very positive results. there is a science and math to all of this stuff....im encouraging everyone to go out and learn something. even if you dont put it into practice, itll give you a good understanding of what any ECM does with the variables input by the sensors. itll also help with diagnosing issues later on.

ok...cheers folks...

i need a beer or five. ; )

Anyone know why Buell doesn't do some sort of Race Tuner like they do with the big twins and now the injected Sportsters?

Because its buell and harley doesent back them and buell does but ONLY if you have a race license................and people wonder why others take the ecmspy and mod their buell with other maps........

EDIT... not only does harley not back them up but they dont really give 2 $#!ts about buell.

For any "civilians" who wander in here . . . there is about as much misinformation as information in this post.

Never seen ECMSpy, I have no need of it and I'm sure it does everything folks say . . . . Dandy.

But MOST the information about Buell, the feds, legality, IP and HD in this post is akin to barroom chatter.

I agree that we should be able to do what we want with our bikes.

I can tear the engine apart and rebuild it if I want. I should be able to tear into the ecm and reprogram that if I want too.

Has anyone tried to actually download from Mikes site.
I tried the other day from two different computers...it gets just a little way then stops. A note says it's "complete"...but only about 1/4 of the program is downloaded.

Sure you can, but if you then take it out on a public road you have broken federal law, along with state and local laws too. It really doesn't matter what your personal opinion of it is, you are guilty of violating the law- and there is no defense that will mitigate the fact. You have a "right" to do whatever you want to your bike, but you do not have a right to ride it everywhere after doing so.

You also have a right to install a RPG on the side of your bike, dosen't make that legal either.

They like people that think like you

As a registered Libertarian, I don't think I'd get too many votes out there. But if elected, my biggest challenge would be representing my constituents- I'm not sure Californians know what they want.

As far as my attitude, all I'm sayin' is I obey laws whether I like 'em or not... our legal code is not intended to be a la carte.

Has anyone spoke with Xopti concerning any of this? I wonder what is going on. I haven't played with the maps at all, but TPS resets are golden.

Sorry if this ha been asked...I've been a bit doped up the last few days...

Dang, how many registered Libertarians are on Badweb? Red, Glitch, myself recently.... interesting to see it cropping up so often on a non-political board.

(okay, so maybe Badweb is a little political lately...)

Sorry for the threadjack... back to ECMSpy mourning!

Is he not doing tuning anymore? He was building maps for $99, and he knows Buells. Beats going to the local yamakawisuzhonda tuner for $300+.

For those of you who follow Intellectual Property law issues. . . that include the codes in the ECM . . . you might find THIS interesting.
