My bike has now had its 3rd rear rocker box cover gasket replaced. Luckily it has been covered under warranty without any question. The first time was about 5000 miles, the 2nd time was about 12000 miles. Now only 500 miles later its leaking again and this one the worst of all. Either the tech doesnt know what hes doing or there is something else going on. I have had problems with this shop about the work that they do but im pretty much forced to go back due to the distance to the next Buell dealership.

The dealer picked up a rear rocker cover gasket leak on my '07 Firebolt at the 8,000 km (5,000 mile) service. Replaced under warranty. I've now done 27,000 km and it seems OK.

3 times seems more than bad luck Ben. I'd go another time with this dealer before I looked elsewhere. It's possible that the rocker cover is cracked or warped. Especially after only 500 miles. I guess the dealer would check that when they fix it again

Have you done a breather re-route? I may be completely off the track, but perhaps blocked crankcase breather could pressurize the rocker box.

Sounds like your rocker box is warped or like you said the tech doesn't know what hes doing.
Take it back, I know it sucks but have them replace the entire Rocker box. After three attempts they shouldn't have a problem doing it. BUT if it leaks again...lol There tech sucks and you should find a new dealer.

Three attempts to fix the same problem in a given period of time sounds like lemon law territory to me.

I would be raising a BIG stink if it took a dealer three chances to fix something so seemingly simple. Once could happen to any bike, twice you never know, three times, someone is screwing something up badly.

Dealer is picking mine up Friday for this. The rear one I hope one time is all it takes to fix it. Oil in the fan and running down the front of the swing arm and shock.

Should we really be seeing oil leaks so soon in this day and age? The last time I had an oil leak on any car I owned was on a 1989 cavalier z24 and it had over 100,000 miles on it. I take that back, my wifes 2007 chrysler 300 had a transmission leak, but it was a pretty well known problem on that model and not related to the engine, so it doesn't count. The two Fords I've owned haven't leaked a drop.

My 05 cityx still seeps a little on the rear base gasket.

That rocker stack is warped or cracked. The wrench (tech?) in question damn well should be questioned ! Tell him to buy a service manual and use it this time. This is a simple job and anyone calling him/her self a tech and not being able to do it right needs to look for a new line of work.

Yeah, I'm an idiot on this one. But a curious one.

Could someone please post a pic or a diagram showing where the rocker box is on the engine and where the leak occurs?

Had the same deal on my 07-12S. Rocker box (frt) was slightly warped. Tech found this cover leak while doing the 10K service. Part was under warranty. When asked why the cover was warped I was told either a factory defect or the engine heating/cooling cycles warped it.
