I have been riding with some jap riders lately and have watched them bring it up on the interstate with relative ease going around 60. Is this possible with an xb9r? I can do 1st gear and 2nd gear wheelies, but have yet to try bouncing and standing. I would appreciate any feedback.

Here's feedback for you. Dont do that, you will only end up hurting yourself & the bike.

I am actually a secret government cloning project & there are 3 of me. 1 terrorizes the net, the other one hits the 24 hr greek restaurants in search of victims & the 3rd one does all our sleeping.

In all reality tho, I only sleep about 4 hrs & I also work nights. 12 hr shifts from 6pm-6am. Gives me a lot of free time with absolutely nothing to do but surf about 15 different boards from work.

That explains a lot.

I work the same shift as you.

ping Shazam in the storm fronts at kcmob. He could only do first and second wheelies to. He made his 9r into a 12r and can do 3rd gear wheelies now.

I believe the rider contributes more to "highway speed" wheelies than the bike. It's just getting the feel of it. When I lived in Florida, there was a guy on an older Buell, and stock I believe, who consistently rode down the highways on his rear wheel... and I'm talking miles! Others would be riding with him nearby... and he's non-chalantly wheelying happily along... no effort... no problem. He wasn't really showboating... standing on the seat or anything... just casually wheelying down the road... at speeds greater than 55 mph.

Hey.. if that's what you're interested in... fine. Wear gear... practice on desolate roads, not around traffic... and prepare for the worst!

Oh... and you might want to check out the "What's a Squid" thread below.

I would have to say that words over the 'net are never gonna teach you how to do a wheelie. It's all about you figuring it out for yourself. Each rider is different.

Hey MoBoy! Good to see ya on the board. KCBill is right. Try and get ahold of Shazam under Storm Fronts/KCMob. He'd be the guy to ask.

I remember years ago, on the freeway heading north on 101 just past Mill Valley there was a guy on a hog. He looked the part. Beanie helmet long blk hair and beard. Leather jacket with levi vest, the works. Perfect stereotype. Anyway we were side by side (I was driving the work truck) doing about 60-65 when suddenly his front tire rose up, all the way up to the balance point and he sped away on his rear tire. He looked like a road demon! It looked really cool but I wouldn't ever try it. I can't afford doctor bills, or worse, a new bike should I mess up.

I understand the squid comments and that's okay with me. I am still wondering if there is anyone doing them.

From what I have read it would involve pulling the clutch in to the point of where it starts to slip. Let the RPMs rev up abit and "pop" the clutch back out. The quicker you release the clutch the faster (and with less control) the bike will pop up.

There are many many many websites that will give you info about doing wheelies. www.uponone.com www.stuntlife.com www.garyrothwell.com just to name a few.

I personally stood up a R1 in the seated position at 65 mph and nearly wet my pants. It is not a stunt for the faint of heart.
