Okay, maybe Im just bulletin board illeterate, but I swear I searched and did not find my answer.

What has the jury decided on removing the snorkel from the XB9's? Good, bad, indifferent?

The reason I ask is because when I ride around and hold the rmps steady at say , 4500 rpm's the big surges or bogs. I have a D&D pipe, ECM and K&N. The behaviour is like the bike is starving for air (for lack of a better term).
Just wondering if anybody else has seen this.

Thanks for your time.

Would'nt hurt to try running the bike without it,you could always reinstate it if the performance gets worse. I have the race kit fitted to my 9s and the snorkel was removed by the dealer.

Hey, I'm runnin a D&D pipe and the Pro-Series air filter. No race ECM yet. (It's on it's way!!)
I removed the air snorkel on mine.
Before I did, I was ridin with my buddy who has the same bike as me but fitted with the race kit and his was removed too. I noticed that before I removed the snorkel, I was goin' thru fuel like crazy. With it removed I get better fuel conservation.

It stands to reason when you look at it off the bike that it will vastly increase air intake if you remove it.
The inlet end is half the size of the outlet and obviously restricts air flow which is what you are trying to improve ;)

The race kit includes a "For race use only" ECM, a K&N air filter, and the dual outlet "For race use only" exhaust. For the install to be done properly the snorkel MUST be removed... and the TSP reset!!!

Having said that... and at the time not having a place to work on my XB9S as I was living in an apartment... I read over all the paperwork included with the race kit... looked at the parts the dealer replace during the installation... and COULD NOT FIND THE SNORKEL in the pile. I promptly went out to the carport... and looked... and they had failed to remove the snorkel!!!

So... if you have a race ECM and race tuned type exhaust... & a K&N filter... you IMHO should remove the snorkel... BUT... should you have the TSP set if you have not already done so when the ECM was replaced... I would think so!

If you did not... that may be part of the problem... I have heard of some bikes nearly being un-useable if the TSP was not reset... and of others... "not quite running right".

have your 02 sensor checked out, My bike was doing that four 3 months before i figured out the problem; and if by snorkel you mean the black plastic/rubber piece that leads from the intake to the airbox, then yes take it out, it should have been taken out when you had your pipe and ecm put in. Your TPS should have been reset as well.

Thanks for the information, I will have the O2 sensor checked. I removed the snorkel, after they reset the TPS. Guess I know what Im going to have to get this looked at before I go to the track on 12/8.

Thanks again!

I took apart the velocity stack and was trying to figure out how they removed it. Mine is all one piece into the throttle body. Is the goal to remove as much of the diameter into the insert into the throttle body? I thought about cutting the thing, but wanted to make sure. Razor knife? After Market? Are the velocity stack and the snorkel the same thing?

Thanks

Keith

No, the snorkel and the velocity stack are not the same thing.

The snorkel is the rubber tube that goes from the air intake on the left side of the bike through the frame and into the airbox.

My recommendation is that you leave the velocity stack alone.

Yes I am going to the Track day. I was under the understanding that it was at Cresson Motorsports Ranch, and not TWS in Bryan. Are you going? What do you ride?
I just got my helmet cam all setup, I plan on doing some filming if Dave doesnt have an issue with it.
