does anyone have a crash/stunt cage on their bike? and if so where to get it and is it worth it? what are the + and - 's | ||

idk, i think the frame pux are good enough, the only thing they dont save are the bars, which you can buy for cheaper then the cage anyways... i thought about it, but the strees points are the main engine mounts. so i decided not to get one. i wouldnt worry about it, until you really drop your bike alot. Every time I've gone down, the frame pucks, the rear passenger peg hangers, rider pegs, and the handlebars are the only things that make contact with the ground. My fancy front and rear DarkHorse sliders don't get any action at all. I'd say frame pucks and bar and sliders would be enough, and some upgraded rider pegs (the stockers ALWAYS break off). Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to protect the clutch and front brake levers, so unless you wanna' drop $50 on a new one every time, you might want to shorten them. ~SM | ||

I read somewhere that the frame will dent behind the pucks. I was thinking of a cage, too, for that reason. Search the BadWeb, there was a thread on one that wasn't too hard to mount a couple of months ago for about $200. | ||

Powers Stunt works is the only people i know of that make cages for a buell. But i have heard nothing but bad things about their cages even the catalog that sells them told me to get one somewhere else and that the only reason they were still in the catalog was a contractual obligation. I talked to Ill Conduct when they were here in pensacola FL and they just have custom machine shop type crash bars. Check out there site there are a few pictures of what they have. If you want extra protection i would recommend that you just take your bike to a local machine shop and get them to custom FAB a bar that you can put sliders on that attaches to the front motor mount. | ||

Andy of Ask ANDY doesnt like them, or the right side scoop. I have one in my garage, cant decide if I want to mount it on the bike or cut bait and ebay it. | ||

I've always heard that because the cage bolts to the engine mount, it is likely to do more harm than good! I've never heard of the frame denting behind the frame pucks. | ||

Ill conduct told me that it messes up the frame The motor mounts are the best place to mount any kind of crash protection. | ||

Yeah i talk to the IC guys here in KC quite a bit and they've been riding long enough they don't use any cages anymore. But on their first bikes, and I've got one on my stuntbike, it's a 3 ft. long aluminum 1" bar that mounts on the front motor mounts and sticks out past the frame on each side of the bike. Went down on one side and broke half of it off, motor mounts and everything else held up good tho. I don't think I have a picture of it right now. (Message edited by duff24 on October 04, 2008) |
