So, while shutting the gate for the umpteenth time parked in the same place, the thing "potato potato" 's itself right off the stand.

Broke the following:

Left peg
Shifter
clutch lever (the ball)
and mushed the bar end mirror pretty good.

SO glad I had the beemer to jump on to go to work. At least when it falls over I can pick it up (after about 5 minutes of huffing and puffing) and ride it away.

Sad to see after a driveway tip over this thing has to wait for parts (to be ORDERED I'm sure) to be ride-able.

GRRRR.... Just venting.

now the bar end mirror i can see being ordered since there are many different ones to choose from and you obviously can ride without it. the rest, well...

I've done the same damn thing. And if your dealer is like mine, you'll have to wait for the parts to come from the mothership.

Sorry to hear about the tip over though, they suck big time.

I've dropped mine on both sides within a week, broke both bar end mirrors but nothing else, the header touched the ground but not even a dent I was kinda glad the bike is designed in a way that only the handlebar and the peg touch the ground when laid down( the right side I slowly dropped down, just couldn't save it, was backing out of a shed).

I had kids dump mine over last summer. Bent my brake lever into a French horn. I replaced the levers with Pazzo shorts. Now if she tips, it'll be the Traction grips that take the hit.

I've seen and heard all the horror stories of XB's tipping over while idling on the kickstand. Is this still an issue with the newer models (was it just a design problem with the older kickstand brackets, etc)?

I've owned two different XB's now, and never had this problem. However I do let the bike idle on the kickstand sometimes, and I'd sure like to know if I should avoid doing this...

ahh..bummer man.. get those parts! im kinda lucky as theres' 3 different HD/Buell dealers in the area. If one doesnt have, well I still got two more..and Al over at American Sportbike is about 25 minutes away.

I still remember the first time I dropped my Buell. Total bummer, but at least now, you got that cherry taken care of it! It gets easier the more you do it!

EZ, as long as you make sure the bike is on flat ground or up a slight incline and the stand is all the way forward, you should be fine.

Happened to me the second day I owned my bike. Lever, peg, blinker...the normal parts that get bashed. Less that $45.00 as I recall.

To stop this from happening again,

#1 make sure you park on flat ground OR have the bike pointing up hill.

#2 make sure that the kick stand gets kick all the way forward, it will open 9/10 BUT the potato-potato will fold it right back up! So what I do is pull back in the bike a bit to be double sure that the stand IS down all the way.

#3 Never turn your back on a running Buell, just like a little kid they'll throw themselves on the ground unless you pay attention to them all the time!

Dropped mine on the 4th day of ownership @ 0 mph in a parking lot. Similar damage... broke the peg in half, bent the lever into a nice curl, popped off the blinker lens (was fixable with superglue). Not too bad considering a sportbike with a full fairing probably would've been a lot worse. Thank goodness frame pucks are standard on the newer XB's : )

When did frame pucks become standard equipment?

I let mine idle in my storage building. The ground is a flat slab of cement, but it still worries me.

you sure you dont get your parts from harley/buell of jackson mississippi??? today makes 4 weeks that I've owned my '05 xb12r and monday will make 4 weeks that its been in that sorry shop waiting on a stupid voltage regulator! and naturally my local shop is the most hated in the region so no one would help them out w/ parts even if they werent too proud to ask, plus the fact that its extended warranty work doesnt exactly light a fire under their butts to get things done

Good:

I found A SET of rubber driver pegs on ebay for $20.

I have in my possession a new shifter lever from the last tip over (it just bent the end. That's probably why it gave up the ghost on this one.)

Bad:

The Napoleon bar end utensil seems to be fried. Perhaps some time in a vice and a rubber hammer may bring it back to usefulness.

Ugly/indifferent:

I now have no excuse to not install the heated grip stuff. I'm just waiting on my Tuono mirrors and lyndall gold pads from the American Sport Bike folks.

Oh yeh, I REALLY need tires for that thing.

I think you started a plague.

Mine fell over in the work parking lot. Other riders were checking out my xb9r and I turned round to say something nice about one of their bikes.

Guess she got jealous and attacked my leg and laid down. Good thing I broke the fall.
Buddy helped me pick her up, she's heavier than I thought.

Not bad, though, bless Eric and his racing input. Mirrors were out of place, push them back.

Left front turn signal was dangling: when I got home I reconnected the wires, put electrical tape around the glass/body joint. Zip-tied where the body joins the stem and taped over that. Checked it out and it works fine.

Clutch lever was bent down a bit. At first, I thought it was where I was going to lower them anyway. However, the bend is also forward a bit so the clutch isn't going all the way in.

So, my question: anybody know what the levers are made of? Can they be bent back into the rights shape?
(In the past, I've had some break as soon as you try while others are meant to be bendable, other bikes' levers.)

Anyway, no cost to me for a tip over and lesson learned.

Due to my paranoid nature I never let ANY bike idle on it's kick stand unless it is pointed uphill.
Even if it's only a tenth of a percent of slope it's better than level.

The levers can be bent back into shape. I did mine after applying a little heat. I moved like melted butter and all was better. Watch what you use to pull on them. The pliers I used left teeth marks on the lever.

In the past, I've used box end wrenches to straighten levers without taking them off. Jewel files take off any burrs.

My father-in-law dropped my STT with only 7 miles on it. I rode directly to his house after buying the bike. He sat on it and complimented my purchase. As he dismounted the bike he leaned it over to the kickstand . . . on the right. No kickstand on the right equals one broken peg. The hand guards had a slight scuff and the peg was 8 dollars.

My friend rides a 05 Katana. This spring he parked it in the driveway to warm-up. After twenty minutes he grabbed his gear and approached the bike. As he was strapping his lid it fell over. It broke a lever, cracked the fairing and cracked the clutch casing. Oil everywhere and a hefty bill to get it back to good.

Bikes falling over sucks.

I had some rather colorful language for myself for not catching my friend before she went down.

(If you don't have the frame pucks you need to get them. They work really well protecting the frame. The I only problem I have with them is you can't see if you've dinged the aluminum.)

I didn't realize the pivot bolt was the culprit but once I got to my friends at Long Island City Harley we found the problem.

The pivot bolt snapped on the kickstand.
Frank and Rash worked really hard to get us back on the road, but the kickstand they had in stock was missing the very part I needed.

Long story short, they ordered the part and had the part delivered as quickly as possible. a week later I was able to pick her up in time for a ride to Saratoga.
