I kinda spend my time between the two boards, caught between the two types of riding I do. Looks like they sucked most of the dirt capability right out of that right with those tires and lighter wheels.

I'm just making a wild-assed assumption but I'm willing to bet that most Ulys sold have not left the pavement - so I think the XT is going to end up having a broader appeal - especially to those of us who can't even tip toe a Uly "classic".

Just my $.02 - and worth every penny.

I have found my Uly to be more dirtworthy than my riding partner's V-Strom. You should have seen his face when he heard the Uly with a new Special O.P.S. muffler....

My Uly has never seen dirt...

But back on topic... I think the XT is a good move for Buell. I have seen plenty of people looking at the Uly, but only to fall prey to the tall seat height. It is a great Sport Tourer as well. I've done plenty of long days and even a SS1000 on Uly and it felt like cheating.

I think Towjam's just saying that a good percentage of folks who bought the Uly, bought it more for the long distance comfort than for its off road capability.

These folks now have available to them, a bike better suited to their wants and needs.

And for all the off roaders, the standard Uly is still available in all its glory : )

If I was in the market for a new bike right now I would be so torn between the XT and the 1125R.
Different bikes. Different purposes. Both perfect for what I want.

To Buell I say Well done

Michael1, what tires you got on your Uly? I have the Scorp Syncs now, which are great all around, but would like something a little more aggressive for the fire roads.

Is it just me or should Buell just have Build your own bike,

Pick an engine 9 or 12 (will exclude the 1125 for this example)
Pick Primary Gearing
Pick a frame, long or short
Then pick what front you want, lighting, firebolt, uly,
Then pick a tail, again lighting, firebolt, uly,
Then finish it off with suspension, bars or clip on, tires, and accessories

I know not everything is like legos, but I think about 90 percent of these items are almost all interchangeable. with some exceptions I know

just seams easier to let each person build their own then try to please the masses with a bunch of similar models

Am I missing something?

It's not Burger King. They can't have the assembly line sitting there waiting for an order then grab this from here and that from there to build a bike to order. : D

I imagine it would greatly reduce the number of bikes coming out of the factory in a day.

All the parts are interchangeable but the magic is in figuring out how to interchange it while reserving or improving the attributes of the the bike.

i.e. the XT may just seem like a lowered Uly but the suspension is newly made to work with that setup.

Why not? OCC does it all the time.

as far as making your own bike kinda deal, chosing tail-frame-fairing, that sounds pretty awesome to me.

I just dont see it happening with everything trying to be so cost-effective. I know that the dollar rules.

It seems to me, that by putting out a bike that is this new xb12xt, arent they pretty much letting the buyer build his own bike?

they listened to what uly owners liked/disliked, and built one basically of parts from different exsiting buells.

Sounds like they did it for us. (not really on this bike, but an example) Like instead of letting everyone build their own personal version of a Buell XB straight from the factory...They built ONE that covers everyones hopes in some form or another. $$$$$

I would still personally be interested in mixing up my own model number...Xb12RT?

I didn't buy a Ulysses for one reason, and that is the fact that, with no boundaries, I would break many laws.

I have seen a fully roosted, to-the-lock, fishtailing Ulysses, on a customer testride. He was thinking about trading his X1.

Hot damn! I just got the official announcement email. Is that "Racing Red" the same as "Sunset Orange"? It looks like it is in the email. If so, i can finally get a Uly front fairing for my Ss that will match perfectly! Can anyone confirm?

Yes, it's virtually the same. My ulybolt has a mix of sunset orange, and racing red stuff.

hey Steve,
That actually looks very nice!
Damn good job there! was it hard getting the 'bolt fairing to mount up?
I wonder how an 1125R fairing would look?
All in all, a very nice looking bike there, Steve!

I don't need no stinking windshield. The bags would be great and same for the better passenger accommodations. Just waiting on part numbers from someone to start ordering.

Maybe wolf will let me borrow his uly parts book
