Okay, so I've got the itch to change my Ss front fairing over to the R fairing. I know I'll need: 1.) R front fairing and windscreen 2.) R fairing stays 3.) R ignition switch & key 4.) new lights (going with an aftermarket custom idea 5.) different bars Which bars are closest to the stock Ss feel without hitting the fairing? I really don't want to change, but from what I've been able to find in the searches, I don't have a choice. Also, when using the R fairing, can I keep my bar-mounted mirrors? Thanks. ~SM |

Also, when using the R fairing, can I keep my bar-mounted mirrors? even if you could, why? don't you actually want to see what's behind you? Instead of those blurry objects. Sorry I can't actually be of help. |

Nah, I've just already blown a wad on the Tuono mirrors, which I actually like. I was thinking of mounting some flush turn signals where the R mirrors normally go. ~SM |

3.) R ignition switch & key Actually no, you dont have to. If you are going to keep the Ss triple tree you can just use / make the same bracket that Steve_mackay used on his Uly-Bolt project. That way you won't have to have everything re-keyed to the new switch and save you some coin too. |

Swordsman- There must be a handlebar solution, since the aftermarket XB-R superbike kit makes it work: http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/sbk.cfm But why not do the entire XB-R front end, including the top triple clamp and OE "clip-ons"? FYI - I have the parts for "Lightning-bolt" conversion if you're interested. Mark Oregon |

Because I like the feel of my Ss as it is now. I'd like to maintain that height/angle as much as possible. A full R conversion will have me lying over farther than I care to. IMHO, R's are terribly uncomfortable. I really wanted the R look, but the position was miserable. See, the trouble is, I'm a TOTAL noob on this part of my bike. I really don't know what all is available, or how it would feel once it was installed. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on September 28, 2007) |

I just got done doing the same conversion your talking about. I have Crossroads clip-ons, and the brake master cylinder will hit the fairing at full lock. My solution was to shorten the bars as much as possible, then put a ~1/4" spacer in where the mirrors mount to push the fairing out a bit. It works quite well. I can still use my bar end mirrors! As far as the ignition, you can use your stock one. It wont mount the same way, but it works. I mounted mine in the exact same location as it was before, but I had to use a spacer again to make it work. (I did everything the cheap way) |
