Hi there folks.

My XB12Ss has LESS than 7k miles on it. The clutch releases out near the end of the throw and the bike doesn't want to roll when engine is off and clutch is pulled in.

I DO NOT abuse this thing.

Seems awful early for a failure.

Anyone else have similar horror stories?

How much free play is there in the lever? Have you adjusted the free play?

There s/b ~1/8" free play b/t the end of the cable and the lever housing. Any more, IMHO, and it will change how your clutch engages/ disengages.

The easiest way to adjust is the cable adjuster in the cable. It has a rubber boot covering it.

I'll give er' a shot but doesn't seem to be much "play" in the cable.

The "coarse" adjustment is at the clutch. The easy and "finer" adjustment is at the cable.

If for some reason your cable is giving way, this also could be the issue. Check the cable at the lever where the barrel end is in the lever. If you don't have that connection lubricated, it can cause a failure at that location.

FWIW, we are not that far apart, we could meet in between. Saturday I have four tires to change (2 Buell, 2 ST13) and a TPS reset for my race kit so it's kinda full.

BTW: which primary lube are you using?

Haven't owned it long enough to do primary.

What do you suggest.

(Thanks for the offer but I'm slammed on Saturday. I DO however plan on getting down that way soon soon soon.)

Will break out the service manual this weekend.

Will break out the service manual this weekend.
The service manual is in the top 3 things I've bought for my bike.
Well worth the money!

Yes there is an another adjustment under the clutch inspection cover. Make both adjustments.

Cant remember exactly the "turning pattern" of the primary adjustment. Get the FSM, worth its wait in gold. (well mabye not, its kinda heavy)

put formula+ in primary.

I change mine every oil change 2500 miles.

Itchybro,

My 06 Uly has 14k on the bike and I just had a clutch failure. It started off just like yours and I went through all the normal adjustment procedures, here is the rest of the story......
