7 speed tranny

Organic fuel - carrots and waste celulose and wood chips.

Chrome trim on the clear bodywork.

(you didn't get any of this from me because my buddy is married to the lady who cleans house of the office manager for the alarm company who sells alarms to Buell - and HE knows stuff - I don't want him getting into trouble if the wrong "Anonymous" reads this)

Keep it just our secret.

If by new model, you mean new color combination, than yes.

It will be called "Blurple" and will feature "Metallion" wheels.

I hate rumors and speculation. And there are inevitably a handful of people who chime in claiming to have "inside info" when they're flat out lying. I'm not saying that there aren't people who do have inside info, but that percentage is minuscule in comparison to the amount of people that make the claim.

450 DOHC liquid cooled dirt bike, 56bhp, all up weight 103kg, underseat fuel cell, alloy frame, Ohlins/Marzocchi suspension, Beringer radial brakes, Excel wheels, Pirelli tyres....

Oh no, that's a Highland..but if Buell built it I would buy one tomorrow : )

(Highland now have a factory in China and are apparently producing engines and bikes for 'other' manufacturers. I wonder who that could be?)

I don't think you'll be saying that in 5 or 10 years. By then they'll be nearly on par with the Japs if their current pace is maintained.

few years ago you would have said..'Chinese wheels, no way' but they adorn every XB and seem OK.

The Chinese bike industry is already the biggest in the world (bigger than evryone else put together), and in the next few years expect to see some very competitive Chinese superbikes coming onto the market.
Zong Shen didn't race a GSXR1000 in World Endurance for 5 years for nothing you know.

Korean manufacturer Hyosung will also have a pretty much state of the art 450 off-roader available this year, and sooner or later the western bike industry will wake up and find that they have done what the japanese did to the British/Italian industry in the 1970's.

Beware the sleeping dragon......

I agree Trojan, but they're still building junk in 2007.

Listen to a few horror stories from people that bought those 'dirt bikes' at Pep Boys or Auto Zone.

Basically disposable bikes with little hope for replacement parts and even less for service.

I got a memo of what is NOT continuing for the next year... NO mention of what is coming, but by omission most of the line up is returning, though there maybe be some model tweeking and COLOR changes. THE only bike that they have said will not be returning is the XB9R. ie Blasts, XB ligtnings, firebolts, & Ulys will continue for next year. No mention of powerplants stats or specs. Damn I want to be at the unveil

Buell will have something exciting to show us already in August (might include more water than usual...). We'll tell you what from Laguna Seca... It is also expected that the Harley-Davidson XR1200 will get an all out official go and launch sometime this summer/autumn too.

A quote from Raptors & Rockets..

Glitch,
That would be a bike I would definitely buy, so long as it had 17" Supermoto wheels and road kit that is : )

A tie up between Buell & someone like Highland would actually make huge commercial sense, given Buell's ambition to break intot he dirt bike market and Highland's experience in this sector (Highland was formed by ex Husaberg/Husqvarna engineers so they have a world of experience). It would give Buell a ready to go lineup, either in modified or just rebadged form, whilst still offering a unique product. It would also solve Highland's distribution problems.

Win win all round really : )

Oh, and Highland happen to have a rather useful, compact, lightweight w/cooled 950 V-Twin engine in their range too, which would slot into an XB chassis rather nicely : )

When Harley/Buell starts manufacturing in China that will be the day my loyalty with them ceases. Period! Although much of the stuff on a Buell is unfortunately made by other countries, I try and support people who help support me with jobs, taxes and social security payments. I.e. Americans.
I wore Rocksport dress shoes which went to Brazil. Still a great shoe, then went to China. I had to return them or have surgery on my feet. They were that bad. Interesting they were still the same price, hmm. If you can screw up something as simple as leather I have no faith in moving parts!!
I see Harley switched their leather to China. I went there to explicitly buy a leather jacket. Saw the China sticker and the $500 price and said you got to be joking. There are several US manufactures of excellent riding and racing jackets. I will be visiting them.

When Harley/Buell starts manufacturing in China that will be the day my loyalty with them ceases.

You'd be surprised at just how much everyday stuff is already made in China, and by just how much of your bike is made there already.

The vast majority of motorcycle electrics for pretty much all factories are now Chinese made, XB wheels are Chinese made and there will undoubtedly be a lot more to come.

Low labour costs in China make it far too attractive for the manufacturers not to go there to get stuff made, and they will do so in increasing numbers and amounts as the Chinese economy grows. Like I said previously, China manufactures more motorcycles than teh rest of the world put together already, it is only a matter of time before they start making 'decent' sportsbikes.

China.

The new young affluent population that is growing can't get enough of them.

China is also notorious for complete disregard of international intellectual property laws. They'll buy a few examples of a product, and then start churning out counterfeit examples of same.

They also don't observe the same product testing and quality we take for granted. Just recently there was a news alert regarding counterfeit tubes of Colgate toothpaste from China containing ethylene glycol (anti-freeze). And don't forget the deadly pet food ingredient that flooded the American market earlier this year... also from China.

China's got a loooooong way to go before they gain the trust of the international market although "cheap labor" is a powerful enticement. Unfortunately, there are still too many people who put the almighty dollar above every other consideration when striking business deals.

I gotta disagree with the China factor as well. Stuff made there is just too cheaply made for some things. I don't know that I buy anything more complicated than a slinky from China if given the choice.

And Hyosung??? Are you nuts? Cheap cheap cheap. And ugly.

Cheap labor is only one part of the equation.

In short, you get what you pay for.

It is not correct to throw blanket statements at Chinese quality.

The problem is generally that US companies do not get their engineers and QC people to do consistent follow up at the Chinese factory, and there is a big language, and culture barrier.

Companies that have on-site QC and engineering people do well with quality in China. Those that just send plans/specs to a "broker" that gets it done at one of many factories will get horrible quality results.

For example, many "Swiss" watch movements are actually made in China, with strict QC. They work just as well as when they were built in Europe.
