I can not find what I am looking for anywhere. Am I just blind?

I would like to make the primary gearing on my XB12R longer. I would like something like a 57/40.

I did search and all I could find was XB9 to XB12 and vice versa.

What combo is on the RR? I'll bet that requires changing to the slipper clutch and will cost a bunch of money!

I *think* to get the gearing you're looking for you'd need to go to a chain set-up.

I believe Glitch is correct.

I do not know what the XBRR gearing is, but as they have chain, they probably gear up that way.

One of our brothers, Saintly, makes an economical chain conversion, and everyone who has it seems to be highly satisfied.

That being said, the gearing on the XB12 is pretty high right now, and gearing up further will probably reduce the top speed unless you have done some serious engine work.

It might allow you to cruise at a lower rpm, but at the cost of slower acceleration.

Does anyone know if the Uly and TT ratio's are different from the S and R?

The Primaries on the 12S, TT and Uly are 1.5:1 (57/38 teeth)

Gearbox ratios are also the same.

Since this post is about gearing, does anyone know of a "speedohealer" like they use on jap bikes to correct the speedo when you gear it?

Im wanting to do a chain conversion, and go with a little different sprocket, but don't want my speedo and mileage to be way off because of it..

The City Cross (XB9) is the lowest geared of the three, the TT is "mid range", and the Uly(XB12) is the highest geared of the three.
The TT is what I'll be going with soon.

Glitch -

I am a bit confused - nothing new there, am I right?

I went to the Buell Site, did a "bike comparo" between the Uly and the TT, and got the same ratios, both primary and secondary.

http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/comparebikes.asp? Bike1=XB12STT&Bike2=XB12X&Metric=false

Now that I think of it, they used to appear to be different. So I don't know what to think.

Maybe there was a typo that was corrected, or maybe it is a new typo, or maybe I am doing something wrong.

What's the deal?

Are you thinking of getting the TT gearing, or the whole damn bike?

You only got about 50K miles on your nine.

Slow Black,

After I fooled around with my gearing, I made all sorts of expensive plans to correct the speedo.

The least expensive, was just making a corrected dash face.

But before I did anything rash, I tested with my GPS and found out that it was more accurate than before I changed the gearing.

Yeah, the Buell website seems to always be in need of proof reading, by someone that knows Buell, and not just copy & paste.
The TT's gearing is between the City Cross, and the Uly.
I'm thinking of doin the primary gearing.
I figure it'll give me a little more drive out of the corners, without having to shift up as soon.
That way I may not even have to shift while doing roads like Wolf Pen.

So where does the 12R fall in the gear ratio chain? Same as a Uly? Or a TT?

Thanks Glitch. I was considering the 9 primary but the TT might be a better choice.

You don't happen to have the TT ratio's do you? The Buell site still has all but the 9 listed as 1.50:1.

Hint. Hint.

If some industrious person would make some different primary gearings it would eliminate the need for a speedo change, and a chain conversion. (and I will say why didn't I buy a machine shop and do that?) I'd think you could sale a gear and chain for less than $200 and make money.

I need second to be a little longer, and the lower cruise RPM would be a bonus.

The ratios are different. Buell doesn't obviously take much time keeping the website up to date. Look in the Fuell issue with the TT and it should be listed there. If you still don't believe there is a difference, go ride one!

Smoke,
I checked the TT issue and it listed all BUT the eng/trans #'s. Was the TT in more than one issue? I've got the one with the 2page spread in the back, only one I can find the TT in. I'm not doubting they are different, I just wonder by how much?
