Seems as though many people are opting for the Ss. Just wondering what the the benefits or disadvantages are over the standard S, other than being more comfortable for taller riders. Personally, I'll stick with my S because I like the slightly shorter, more compact look and the awesome handling. Oh, and I'm 5'7"!

I love my Ss, but finding after-market parts to fit it (seats, etc) is really difficult.

The Ss is longer, has a great seat, bigger fuel capacity, and due to having different geometry is more stable but slower steering as a result.

As the magazines point out, "Slower steering" is all relative. For a Buell, yes. For any other bike? It's still pretty aggressive! I like the more relaxed ergonomics, the more comfortable saddle and the greater fuel capacity. It's why I held on to my M2 Cyclone for so long; I liked the way the new XBs looked but I just couldn't get comfortable on them. Once the XB12Ss came out, I was hooked. I'm only 5'10" by the way.

I agree with Jaimec, and I will go even further.

I think that the XB12Ss should be considered the "Standard" or "Normal" Buell. The one everyone buys unless they have some special needs.

For example, Ultra sport riding: Firebolt

All terrain Touring: Ulysses

Busting traffic Jams in the city: City X

Another bike that took me a while to appreciate is the TT.

I think of it as a XB12Ss with better suspension, and dopey looking water wings. I tested one a MB IV and was very impressed with the ride and handling.

The Water wings come off in a minute.

If you want to flat foot, do what I did when I had my Ss...buy the touring seat. Drops you by an inch without having to mess with suspension.

Thanks for all of your input. To each his/her own. I do think it is a nice option for someone wanting more comfort, but I'll definitely stick to the more aggressive looking pit bull bike of the standard 12S. I like all bikes and their differences. Ride on!

Graham: Who makes that windshield? I have a Laminar Speed Shield on mine, but it's much smaller. Works fine on the track, but I'd like more protection for colder weather and commuting (click my name on the left for a photo).

Graham,

I second that request. Who makes that windshield? I've got the CeeBailey's in clear on my Ss and it works pretty well, but yours looks even taller.

Thx,
Nels

I used to own a 12ss, and now own a 12s. For any one that is in the market to buy one, they should really test ride them back to back with proper suspension setup. I prefer the 12s not only for looks, but for the way that it handles.

Like said above to each their own, but for me it is the 12s all the way.

See, now unless I have them side by side, I don't see any difference in the way they look. And I find the Ss more comfortable and it handles just fine. I also appreciate the greater range; I don't have to stop so often to refuel.

I own an Ss, and test rode a standard. hated it! Ok, hate is a strong word, but I didn't like the seat or the handle. I owned an R before the Ss, and I rode/ride the Ss much better, I personally think the Ss handles BETTER than the R. Incidentally, if there are no big announcements in July, I will probably go back to the R, just for the looks and wind protection.

Cochise, why not just add a firebolt fairing & Zero Grav ST screen to your SS?

Kind of hard to explain, but pound for pound, I like the 'bolt a little better.

You could probably say wishy-washy : D
