I saw some nice lightweight 90º tire valves on PJ.'s site.

However, I don't know if they will fit on the Buell wheels which seem to be a bit thicker than most where the tire valve stem hole is drilled.

Does anyone know exactly how thick the wheel is at the valve stem hole? Perhaps a brother could measure the wheels?

I just mounted my tires, and don't plan on mounting a new pair for a while.

Thanks.

Pretty dang thick!
If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of 3/8"-1/2".

Last time I changed tires, I needed a new stem. The dealer was out of the longer ones that Buell uses, but they sold me a short one for steel wheels(I'm guessing). It works, but I can't use some gas station air because the fitting won't go on the stem far enough.

Tank,

You gotta the pretty dang thick part right, that's for sure.

I needed new stems myself, and I had a devil of a time finding them. Most of the bike stores in the area didn't have ANY stems at all. Finally found a pair at the Honda dealer, but they were aftermarket.

Anyway, I forget how long they were. If anybody can get there hands on a wheel, and measure it, I sure would be obliged.

The aluminum 90º units, if they work, will be both lighter, easier to balance and easier to fill.

I was also checking those stems out, was going to buy them and see how they work.

If no-one chimes in From there experience I will order them and we will see...

the valve stem "hole" is .45" deep. the hole dia. is .34" and the inside recessed (machined flat) surface approx..625" round. i bought those high dollar(i'm too embarassed to tell you how much they cost) ducati 90 deg. valve stems and i'm convinced they only fit ducati's !!!

Thanks Cliff.
I was leanin' more towards a half inch. I have a bare wheel here, but I didn't want to pull the valve stem.

Sooo...I used the "two finger, yep, it's about that much" method.(usually pretty accurate)

Ducati valve stems, huh. I take my wheels to the Duc dealer for mounting tires. I guess that's why they suggested I procure my own valve stem????(likely cost less in gas, plus the Harley piece, than they would charge for a stem)

They are very reasonable on a tire change(wheels off bike), and they do a fantastic job.

Here is the answer from PJ.

"Hi Jonathan.

Problem Solved..

There are two sizes of 90 Degree stems - the standard 11.3mm Bore for most stock wheels, and the 8.3mm size for Antera, Marvic, Marchesini, OZ racing, and Brembo wheels. The other measurements are fine

Your mesurements match those 8.3 mm stems for the bore. I don't keep them in stock, but could have them here next week - I have actually been meaning to stock them, so I'll probably be ordering them up anyway, just let me know if you want a set and which color. "

Unfortunately, I just mounted a new set of tires, so I won't be able to try these out for a couple of months.

Eric, why don't you order a set of the 8.3mm ones, and report back how they work?
