First off, I tried to do a search, and I couldn't find a post that answered this question. But if the post exists and I just suck at searching, I apologize ahead of time.

I've been researching the XB line-up, and a couple of reviews mentioned problems with rain overcooling the front cylinder. I found a couple of posts in here discussing overcooling in cold weather but not rain.

Anyone have experience with rain issues? I just seemed like a random comment, and I've only seen a couple of folks mention it, but I was just curious.

Yeah, me neither. Here's an excerpt from one review that I saw for an '03 firebolt 9r:

Pros: The sound, feel, handling.
Cons: Poor rain performance (front cylinder overcools)...

wow. they must have been riding waist deep in a lake. i have ridden mine MANY times in the rain. hard enough rain that the cars are sitting under the over passes and along side the road because they cant see. it has never had a problem or missed a beat. i wouldnt waste your time worrying about it.

i never heard of that before, however I was riding over a mountain last year and experienced some hesitation. It was probably in the mid to high 30s and it was raining pretty hard. It felt like at certain points i had water in the gas. it was brief but I was feeling a little uneasy about getting stranded. To this day I don't know what the actual problem was. Just chalked it up to a combination of factors. Still, I wasn't happy thinking I may get stranded with a brand new '06.

Thanks. Yeah, like I said, it was a strange comment. I mean, who would build a bike that suffered in the rain?

But like I said, I just saw that comment a couple of times and was curious. Would what Hammeroid experienced be symptomatic of overcooling?

He didn't give the alt. but did say he was riding over a mountain. Could have been high enough that the thin air caused it to run a bit rich?

I've ridden 70MPH while it was snowing somewhat heavily at about 28 degrees... didn't have any over cooling problems. Only problem I had was wiping the snow off my visor and the plow that honked at me...

Maybe not warming up fast enough is what he meant? You do have to let a Buell sit and idle for a minute or two (but I do that with everything...) so it'll warm up.

I have ridden both Buell Xb and Sportsters for many hundreds of miles in the rain, in Alaska, and also at cooler temperatures below freezing for many consecutive hours, stopping only for fuel.
The bikes can handle it.

You sure it was the XB or the M2

I have heard of problems of the M2 getting "wet" or after being washed, having problems. There's someone on this board who had this problem, but I'll wait till he shows himself, as not to get all the facts wrong. But, he had issues with his M2 after washing it.

As i have heard, others beside him had a similar problem. I don't want to lie and try to tell you exactly what it was, so hopefully he will see this thread and pop in. My short term memory is clogged with Hops and old Bong resin.

Sorry... just me.

I have driven mine in hail, hard rain, in August when it's not the warmest. Doesn't effect how the bike runs at all. It's funny because I'm all geared up (well smart I should say) full face helmet, leathers and I'm going down the interstate and I see a bunch of people on 40K to 150K choppers and they are pulled over with their vest (only thing they are wearing - besides tennis shoes and pants of course) over their head to stop the rain and hail from pelting them. haha I say and keep going. The Sturgis rally brings out the smartest of riders (me that is!) and not everyone rides like this but it happens every year

I had a carbonfiber race filter set up on my m2, and on a few occasions in really really hard rain the filter would get soaking wet and the bike would run really rich causing it to spit sputter and almost die.

When testing the XB-11 V4 the front two cylinders did run cooler than the rear we found by this testing that the return from the radiator has to be repositioned to correct the situation…..oooops
