The insurance adjuster looked at the bike on monday. They wrote me a check on the spot for the estimate and for my replacement helmet. Now I can get my parts coming. Now I just hope they dont raise my rates too much. This is the first claim I have had and I have been with them since I was 16.

Lucky you! I suggest you stay with them! Little story 'bout Progressive for those of you who have 'em. My advice, change to State Farm! I laid my Harley down a couple years ago. They had me send it to "their guy" for repairs. Well, "their guy" was about 90miles from my home and only open on weekdays, 10am to 4pm. Those hours sound familiar? Yea, that's when real people who have jobs work, like me for instance. So getting any update on the bike was strictly "over the phone". It was always something like this, "Oh yea, the parts on the way" or "progress is good, it's coming right along". Sound familiar? Yea, kind of like "the check is in the mail", right? Took 6 months to get the work completed. When I got it back, the paint looked nothing like what it should have. The excuse was "we didn't have any pictures to work from". Hmm, how about you take some of the bike before you disassemble it? You had it at your shop right? Factor in the fact that the insurance that I had to have before I could take the bike off the showroom floor did not actually cover all the custom parts and paint on the bike I purchased, if you have seen the photo of said bike you can tell there are basically no stock parts left. I had to shell out about $1,500.00 on top of my $500.00 deductible to cover any added cost above a stock part of the aftermarket parts plus any paintwork. They covered the black base coat and clear top coat, I had to pay for the flames. Then, when the painter could apply the flames with a sharp edge like it was originally, I had to have it pinstriped to cover up the edges, another $300.00. Not to mention I liked it better without the pinstripe. End result in this longwinded rant is this, look closely at your policy. Mine cost me a lot of money because it didn't actually cover the bike. Avoid Progressive like the plague. Unfortunately, the irony is that no one else will pick me up because I had a wreck! AARRGGGHHHHHHHHH!

Oh yea, I also forgot to add that "their guy" removed my Dyna Single-Fire Programmable Ignition setup and replaced it with a stock one. I was unaware of that until I decided to adjust it one day and took the seat off. Boy was I surprised! When I went back to the insurance company they said "can you show us some proof it was there?" Hmm, let see, it mounts under the seat. How many of you take pictures of your bike with the seat off? It was on the bike when I purchased it used. How many of you purchased a used bike and got a list of all the aftermarket parts on it from the sales company? Me either. Hope the shop guy enjoys his new ignition system!

I was politely asked by State Farm to find insurance elsewhere. I was with them for over 10 years and never had a claim (I've never had an insurance claim), but their statistics and my driving record indicated that I was due to really screw them over. When I asked the agent when I could apply again for State Farm insurance, he said, "Never".

My reply; "I've been kicked out of better places than this".

Hmm, sounds like they went with the theory of "do unto others, before they do it to you"! I have a friend who is real close with a State Farm agent, word is they are not accepting anyone right now due to backlash from all the Hurricane Katrina stuff. They got hit hard on that lawsuit.
