So I have a PDA/GPS already and I would like to mount it What are my options? I dont know where to look....I have searched on here and cant find a mount for the firebolt.... thanks in advance | ||

No real luck...The is not really enough space to add it on the bar, and I dont wanna drive holes into the deck where the Firebolt logo is...and I dont wanna put the $400 pda on a base that is typed down..So Im gonna keep looking still... | ||

oh opps I forgot ...I have a Dell Axim x50 with tom-tom and a bluetooth gps that you can throw anywhere (like in your pocket) and go anywhere ....I love the TOM TOM I used it when I was a private investigator everyday and It only got me lost once...way out in Ocala in a new (i say new the fire department couldnt even find it) neighborhood but other than that never had an issue. | ||

Hellonwheels, Here are a couple of other threads from the last couple of days that have some RAM mount info that may help you. This first one has all the RAM parts numbers and prices in it for the basic mount parts: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/252871.html?1171820391 Use the GPS City link from that last link and look up the cradle(s) that fit the bits you want to mount and you should have it all. This link has a different type of RAM mount and details on mounting a radar detector and doing the electrical work. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/258963.html?1171824054 The different RAM cradles that fit different devices are the key part needed to get a good solid mount and they are not that expensive. We are getting GPS and RAM mounts threads all over the place here the last week and little or none of it is getting into the KV. It would be good to get it into the KV under the Accessories sub topic. The way to do that is to start the threads in the right place, not to try to move them to the KV later. ^^ Getting lost is exactly why you get a GPS!!! Go and get lost, any direction. Then, when you're done, boot the GPS up and have it lead you home. | ||

And being able to find that perfect road again! The GPS is more help to me to get lost more effectively. I plot my trip from a birds eye view, following every squiggly line. Without a GPS and no frames of reference, its really difficult to follow a preplotted route like that. With the GPS you can stay on it and know how to get back there, and mark other interesting roads for future investigation. | ||

See I work as a PI and a catering company so i work in new places all the time and If i take the bike its nice not to have to tape the directions to the airbox...and I like the fact that I can get lost out in the curvies and then we im outta gas or need food or wanna go home one touch ! Yeah Im just not sure how you guys are mounting to the left side bar...could someone that has it take a picture of the mount upclose and personal...? | ||

The link Loren posted is one possible method (RAM has lot of pieces and versatility). Here are some others to consider. The zumo mounting instructions show the left side mount, the two spacers are the onl difference between and right and left side mount on a Buell, maybe on other bikes too). GPS can actually help you FIND the more twistie roads and out of the way places. You also have the ability to turn it off, should you so desire. I do a lot of "foreign" riding. This summer I'll be touring Napa Valley and Montreal and for situations like that, you just can't beat GPS! | ||

I have my RAM mount with the standard motorcycle mount. The u-bolt is just the right size to fit between the triple tree and the controls - just barely. No problems in the many miles it's been on. | ||

Okay, I'll try again my question. What size thread is the left-hand mirror stem on a 12R? I'm trying to decide which of the following I should purchase.  9mm mounting hole and 45-degree Offset versus  1" R-A-M ball with 1/4" x 20 threaded stud versus  1" R-A-M ball with 3/8" x 16 threaded stud Thanks, Paul | ||

"What size thread is the left-hand mirror stem on a 12R?" Paul, are you talking about the screw boss on the clutch lever mount used for mounting mirrors on some bikes? If so, that screw boss is a 10mm x 1.25 Fine Metric thread. I used the first ball mount and drilled the 9mm hole out using a 5/16 drill. | ||

I made up a little bracket that bolts to the mirror so that it sits behind the stork. Is in a great place to see it but not great for weather protection. ....Fulgur. | ||

Not to quibble, but an anal retentive old machinist just can't ignore the numbers here. A 9mm hole would be .354" in size, a 5/16" drill is .3125" in size, 10mm hole would be .394". The tap drill for a 10mm x 1.5mm thread would leave about a 8.5m (.0335") hole. Maybe you used a different drill or the hole size is not right yet? If you want to put that "9mm mounting hole and 45-degree Offset" piece on there and have the mirror go through it to hold it in place, and the mirror has a 10mm x 1.5mm threaded shank, you would need to drill it out to about 10mm or .394" to clear the shank on the mirror. If you only have fractional drills around the possible drill choices would be 25/64 or .391" or 9.92mm 13/32 or .406" or 10.32mm) The 25/64 would probably work nicely because a 10mm bolt thread is actually slightly smaller than the called size for clearance and drills *always* drill a hole that is a little larger than their called size. One final question: Today I spend the entire day going from store to store trying to buy a Black 10mm x 1.25 bolt with no luck! I ordered all the stuff from Cyclegadgets, and now I'm not able to attach the kit to my left handside mirror "hole". Can somebody point me in the right direction? I don't want a chrome or shiny bolt - only a black one. If somebody has one, I'll gladly pay for it. Thanks, Paul | ||

what not just scuff it up and paint it??? IDK around my town we have a skycraft (its got everything {just about}) but you said you spent some time looking so I guess that would be your best bet.... paint the top were its shinny and problem solved? | ||

Actually I would like to get one of those "Allen head" bolts, if that's what they are called... in black. I hate to buy a can of black spray paint just to paint one bolt - I don't have a garage to store stuff, unfortunately. | ||

Paul, If you have a gun shop in the area, look for a bottle of Birchwood Casey Perma Blue, comes in a small 3 oz. or so bottle. Work any plating off the head of the screw with 400-600 grit emery cloth. Then immerse the screw in it in a small plastic or ceramic dish. Wire brushing and several soaking sessions with fresh Perma Blue will increase the darkening every time. They also have some Super Black touch up pens that will work on almost any metal. Like a flat black paint. Finally, know any Marines? Or have a surplus store around? A bottle of M-Nu works good, it is what the Marines use to keep their insignia blacked out. Jack | ||
