Where can I find a larger transmission sprocket and a smaller rear wheel sprocket for a XB12?

I would like to knock the engine speed down about 500 rpm.

I understand European models have the taller final ratios.

I think Trojan sells a kit for more top speed and one for more torque.

It is possible to fit the primary gears used on the XB9 series to most XB12's.

The difference is that the primary ratio of the XB 9 is 1.676: utilizing a 57/34 tooth gear set.

The XB12 series, ( except the long, if I am correct), utilizes a primary ratio of 1.500:1 using a 57/38 tooth gear set.

The final drive ratio of 2.407:1 is the same on all current Buells, and uses a 65/27 tooth belt pulleys and cannot be changed because there is only one belt available.

Of course, if you convert to chain drive, you have a much wider selection of ratios.

Or, you could change both your primary and secondary drive ratios, if you enjoy mathematics, and get exactly the ratio you feel is appropriate for your motor, weight and application.


That's what I have done.

The gears are available from several of our sponsors, including Trojan, American Sport Bike among others.

That is an accurate statement, but only for the tube framed Buell's. The XB's have 'worldwide' final drive gearing.

I have an 04 XB12 primary drive and an 03 XB9 primary drive. My belt and pulleys are from 03 XB9. with the 12 primary and the 9 belt drive what would the gearing be like? more bottom or more top end? what about a 9 primary and the 12 final?

I have a 12 with the 9 primary chain and engine sprocket on it and it sure hops up in second nice now and first, well be careful if ya go this way... Top end gets there alot faster and you lose top end speed revs go up about 500 all the way so at 60 mph you are now at 3500 rpms approx:instead of around 3000...
So if ya like to play down low its cool but on the highway kind of sucks...I`m always cruising now on the highway around 4000 which ain`t bad ya hit it and your goneeeeeeeeeee.But i`m sure you are wearing stuff out quicker but that don`t matter to me :-)

Why would you want to effectively lower the power of your bike? With even higher gearing your acceleration will be pretty crap and top gear purely an overdrive at best.

If you really wanted to achieve this then I think a chain is the only way to do it, as any combination of XB9 & XB12 Primary and secondary sprockets will only lower your gearing.
