I hope Buell goes to a mono cylinder thumper before an I4 ( but in a higher cc than the blast).

Just wondering...what is a hemi and would it be applicable for a v-twin?

Redneck Engineering would love to get their hands on a Hemi Buell engine.

"Hemi" refers to a hemispheric shaped combustion chamber.
The Buell looks to be pretty close to a "hemi" to me.

Keep the twin. Maybe Rotax. Or just XBRR motor stock in the new 2008 XBR.

I bought the Buell mostly because it was a twin. I have always ridden I-4's (except my old Kawi s-1 25 triple). I wanted to experience a twin. I may ride twins forever!

I love the way the bike pulls out of the turns. I can go in slower than my buddies on their R-1's but pull out faster.

The twin is very well suited to carving canyons. I am no superman but none of my buddies are happy about The fact I am in front of them in the twisties.

The XB really is a sweet canyon bike that has everything you need to be fast if you are a solid enough rider to be riding fast in the first place.

WE HAVE A WINNER! That is exactly the point Erik Buell makes in his video clips. The big bore V-twin is ideally suited for everyday riding and carving. A bigger oil tank and oil cooler.

With me and all my gear, I probably add 245 lbs to my XB9S.
I can pull the steep hills of western PA at 2500 RPM in top gear.----
One of the reasons I like this engine.

Yep, those I-4's pull up next to me, revving and downshifting, and struggling to find power.

I just roll it back an inch and let the beast roar at them.

>struggling to find power

with 60 ft/lbs from 2000RPM-9500RPM, 80ft-lbs from 3500-8300RPM and 91ft/lbs peak torque, power is the one of the few things I don't complain about and easily the best reason to have one.

struggling to find power?

yeah right. Never have I struggled for power on my Hayabusa. The only time I downshift is to totally annihilate some of the people I'm riding with. It still new to me and the power just blows my mind everytime I drop the hammer. I actually shift less than when on my Buell. Third gear is good from about 45mph to about 130ish. (Probably around 3500 rpms to 10 grand. Never taken it over 10 so far.) But, then again this is my first inline and the only one I've ever ridden so I can't speak about the corner carvers. And yes the power does increase as RPM increases but even at 3000 it is far from struggling.

Another reason I like this engine on my XB9S is the gas consumption.
I filled the tank today. (price set to rise) 60 miles on the trip odometer, it took just under one gallon to fill the tank.

You don`t have to struggle to find power on a GSXR1000 either. This bike pulls hard in every gear period. Pulls hard enough to do a roll on wheel in 4th gear at over 130mph. But it also will pull hard from as low as 3000rpms.

Awesome machine!

Any modern I-4 liter bike makes more torque than a Buell. Read the Stats.

There is more to it than peak. Forget the stats and look at the curve, flatter is better.

I think saying that a modern 600cc inline four does not compare, that is fair to say, and they ARE struggling to find power. Anything modern and 1000cc or bigger will mash a Buell power wise.

I for one love the Buell engine.

I have ridden an '05 GSXR 1000 for about 500 miles. I don't care what "the curve" looks like, that thing will out pull any other bike I've ever ridden, but comparing it to my Buell is apples to oranges.

I swapped rides with a friends GRX1000 and yes it has a stunning top end, but, after reading for years how liter bikes had torque everywhere, I was not impressed with the way it pulled from idle to 6k. I'm pretty sure I could take him if you turned the rev limiter to our redline...Maybe, or maybe not, but that is what the butt dyno told me!
Oh and he really enjoyed riding my S3.....

Try it off idle sometime. It won't out pull stuff then.

yeah those R1, Gixxer and Busa bikes are SOOOOOOO slow. you guys are smokin crack if you think your air cooled twin with 10 to 0ne compression is even on the same planet as a modern liter bike. The list of bikes that will walk away from a stock Buell is long. I really like my XB12, but have a relatively unobstructed view of reality.

I would not buy a Buell w/o the twin motor.

What would be the point?

I'd LOVE to see an XBR with a Duc Testretta 999 S motor.
