OH NO!!! Not another exhaust thread...

Go get the XB Exhaust Shootout Results from American Sport Bike. It contains the most "exhaustive" coverage on almost all the options available for both the XB9 and the XB12; including Micron, Drummer, Latus, Buell Race, Special Ops, etc.

Me personally, I chose the Drummer. Gotta love the thunderous rumble and roar.

slightly different subject along the same line...

Is Buell discontinuing the whole race kit or just the ECM? ie: will the pipe still be avaiable, I wonder?

They are just discontinuing the race pipe. The ECM and filter as far as I know are still available. I got my race ecm from Dave S. about two weeks ago.

All Pro Series products along with Screaming Eagle products are no longer being made. Once they are all sold they will no longer be available from Buell or Harley-Davidson.

Oil will still be available as it's not a "performance" hard part.

Untrue Glitch screaming Eagle is still around. Saw a set of new pipes factory installed on a new FatBoy. Asked to start it...Its not to much louder then stock I said.He told me that they have changed considerably from the year before. More EPA crap into Screaming Eagle stuff now. The oil is safe as well.

Hey guys, you forgot about Josh here...

Josh,

I suggest you list, in order of priority, the top three most important things you are looking for in an exhaust system. Then let others help you because it really depends on what you want. There really is no "best" system out there, i.e. some guys want sound and cheap price and don't care about performance, for others, performance is king and cost is no issue, etc.

well i hear good about both but to me the micron full system seems better.cuz u get the primaries too.imean there both close in price kind of.whats the better value Ill spend the extra for the micron if its worth or better performaance than the drummer ss.remember this is going on a xb9s

Josh,

I think you've already made up your mind and just want some reassurance. C'mon guys, anyone out there with a micron, tell Josh what they think. Anyway, it seems you have done your research and know what you want. Even though I got the Drummer and can totally vouch for Kevin's work, I say go with the Micron as you seem to be leaning that way. Either way, I am sure you will be happy.

I do know this.
IMHO you can't find a better sounding pipe for an XB9 that the SSDrummer.
IMHO you can't find a better performing pipe for the XB9 than the Micron.
IMHO the best bang for the buck is the Special O.P.S. pipe.
Take it for what it's worth, it's only my opinion.

i got the original drummer for $400 for my XB12. i love it, and I won't look back. i read all the opinions here on BWB, waited and read the shootout results, but in the end i just went with what felt right.

i like my jardine and it did pretty well in the shootout against much more expensive options. i bought it for the price and weight. the only drawback is no jacking on it as it is aluminum, but it take 5 mons to remove so no prob for me.

Glitch I forgot to mention though that the FatBoy I'm speaking of is a brand new 06 on the dealer floor with no miles on it. You'll still be able to get Screaming Eagle stuff just not some of the stuff that we are used to be seeing from HD.

My bike was tuned for the Jardine, and i like the sound and the performance.

Honestly all of the pipes in the shootout performed well. Just match how you use
your bike to the performance specs of the pipe! presto, best pipe for you.

Al did a pretty good synopsis of each pipe. ie: the D&D had a fat midrange, but
less on top and bottom. It is also loud. If that's where you spend your time,
in the midrange, and you want LOUD that's the one for you. And so on....

Just be honest with yourself about what you really want and you'll be happy with
with which ever pipe you choose.

this cld be a mild surprise for any of u that read my *goofy* spots ..

i am SERIOUSLY considering putting a quieter exhaust on bike .. also, SERIOUSLY am going to reinstall factory ecm, & muffler w/ butterly interactive valve ...

getting sick of being deafened, sounding like a damn harley & upsetting all the neighbours dogs .. i LIKE the sound of the AIRBOX just think the pipe, ahem .. blows!

anyone know of a way to keep performance of race pipe yet reduce noise to stock??

i want to see - even the the report reveals differently - just how different bike reacts to HARD riding w/ stock setup.

as i am discovering .. *lines* & suspension are where its REALLY at, for the noise & marginal horsepower gains tradeoffs.

i will review that report highlighting least hp loss to racepipe w/ LOWEST decibel readings.

i guess after 40 yo, things DO change?!

i am more than happy with the performance this thing is great from midrange to top end with the race ecm.....mot to mention during the shootout they commented on the sound quality, which i have to agree with. for me the price is what really made this pipe shine. i bought it last year well before the shootout results and when people were still kind of leary of it as a viable option. i have never been happier with the pipe it runs great.

Josh,

The first thing you need to do in your quest for the "best overall exhaust" is to define exactly what that means for you personally. Meaning, do you want peak top end or mide range or a bit of both; is it imperative that you have really strong low end power? What about sound? Cost? Ability to jack up the bike using the muffler? It ain't simple is it?

Vonsliek, look into the "e" tagged euro pipes.
They have to meet noise restrictions.
Trojan-Horse and Hillbilly-Motors can help you there.
