In the jugs I got 10-5-1 Pistons, Heavy duty Valve springs. I thought of going to the 1450 but I don't want to bring my RPM down. What I would really like to do is increase the RPM.

Kyle,

What's your rev limiter on that M2, 6800?

I would stay away from trying to increase the rpm, the motors are just not happy living above 6800 rpm.

I would bore it out a little more, then spend the rest of the money making the engine bulletproof with blueprinting, and heavy duty top end components, good valve seals, gaskets etc.

If you want to do this locally go to Zipper's or try some of the fine companies that advertise on this site. Zipper's has this new 88" Sportster/Buell Kit that looks like it might be the trick.....

Kyle you might want to move this over in to the engine sections of the Knowledge Vault....

On the dealers/support thread, it was my intention to spark some discussion. I'm a big free enterprise advocate and also know my Latin - caveat emptor. My own experiences with H-D Buell dealerships:
- The one that sold me my S3 got screwed by Buell enough times to inspire them to voluntarily give up their Buell franchise and stick with H-Ds.
- The one that I took my bike to when it siezed changed the oil and gave me back my bike without comment.
- The one in my town provides adequate support, has an adequate inventory of Buell clothing, is pretty thin on parts, and woefully understocked when it comes to actual Buell motorcycles. They don't appear to give full support to Buell. It's a motorcycle boutique, pretty much.

I agree with Court that it is a dealer's responsibility to "dealer well," and I agree that it is a customer's responsibility to "customer well" - if and only if the dealer demonstrates his competence and business ethics. Enthusiasm, especially in the motorcycle business, is also a plus but is not absolutely necessary as long as the competence and ethics are there.

On the factory/dealer/customer thread (I agree, Ara and Court, it really IS a three-part system) . . .

does anyone know the criteria for the Pegasus Award? I believe at one time it was awarded on the basis of unit sales . . .. . I believe that it was canged 2 or 3 years agao to include other data points, as well . . . .. anyone know what these points might be?

signed . . . I guy that's worked in factory/dealership industries most of his career, and would love to see them ALL succeed

I heard that one of the new qualifiers for the Peg award is customer satisfaction. Not sure how they're going to rate it though unless they compare customer names in the service department records against other regional dealer service records, and compare parts customer records against international dealer parts customer records. Apart from relatively select surveys and raw customer tracking I see no real valid way to measure customer satisfaction.

On this note I am in the late-middle of a qualitative survey process on a non-related subject. Switching from quantitative to qualitative data is not as simple as going from ac to dc for example. There's a whole lot of subjectivity involved, and when that happens the one in control can definitely skew the interpretation of the results. "Qualitative" is by definition not objective.

I will say that the next Peggy awards will probably shake up a few things. And on ooh so many levels.

Hmmm, thinking more about this I wonder if I can get a sponsorship to conduct an ethnographic survey of generalized customer satisfaction and a transitional customer demographic analysis, and convert or co-apply this to a Master's Thesis context in a relevant degree field.

Makes one wonder.

Illinois HD/Buell won in 2001 or 2 (can't remember right now), and I'd rate em very good in bike availability, parts availability, great on accessories, no experience with their service department (other than a couple of tire purchases/changes, which were handled accurately and quickly) . . .. . I seem to remember that the existance of a BRAG chapter helped, as well .. . . .

there are, of course, to MikeJ's point, lies, damn lies, and statistics

You'd not be the first person, in 2002, to do this. Expect tangible results.

They did change the Pegasus award criteria a couple years ago. It has more to do with doing a good job now than just pushing bikes out the door. We have not won this award yet and I do mean yet. I'm working on it!,I'm working on it.

MikeJ...

Understand your proposed study but really got a charge out of Webster's definition...

Ethnography..."The branch of anthropology that deals descriptively with specific cultures, esp. those of nonliterate peoples or groups."

Looks like either Webster elaborated on the definition or you are subjectively rating your fellow BWB'ers. LMAO

Court and KCFirebolt: I have since relocated to a little town called Delaware, and don't expect to be near the KC area any time soon.
