Right now mine is sitting at an almost 7 hp increase. Approximatly the same torque. I'm sure this will be cleared up after tuning it with Direct Link. Right now I'm running a Micron, race filter, race ECM. DO NOT USE THE PIPE WITHOUT A RACE ECM.

I tried the TFI with it already. Don't waste your time. Use that money to buy a Race ECM, then get it tuned with Direct Link when you have a chance. Trust me on this. If you want to do it anyway then buy my TFI from me. Hehe

If you give Al and I a couple of weeks we plan to have an XB9 with a Micron all tuned using the Direct Link S/W. You will be able to stay with the stock ECM and re-map it to the Race ECM fuel and timing values. .. Contact him on his American Sport Bike Banner here on Bad Web. ... Terry

Terry, are you confirming then that there is no difference between the stock and Race ECM's when it comes to remapping them with Direct Link? One will work as good as the other?

Pete,
It would appear to be the case, at least with the XB12's that we've been mapping. With identical maps, the power he was getting out of his Uly was within 1/2 HP of what was coming out of mine. Different (identical) bike, different day, so 1/2HP can be disregarded. Terry is now getting MORE out of his stock ECM than we got with my race ECM, but that's only because he has continued to refine the map. We'll poke THAT map back into the race ECM, and then mine should be up over 100RWHP as well.

Now, that said, for XB12s, the config ID of the race ECM from 04, 05, and 06 appear to be the same, but the config ID for the 06 stock ECM is different than the config ID for the 04-05 stock ECM. The maps, or at least the ones that we have visibility of, are identical. This means that there are other changes in the 06 ECM that aren't reflected in the race ECM. There are lots of algorithms in the ECM, some that have nothing to do with performance and more to do with fault management and other corner case operating conditions. It could be that the changes are there, which is enough to change the config ID but not enough to sweat in terms of how the bike runs. We're very very close to being done. I just got off the phone with Technoresearch, and they've got the accel/decel table bug that has been delaying the release fixed. We just need to test that fix, and get the config ID for the 05 and 06 XB9 stock ECM into the code and it is "done".

Al

Indy, Al and I believe there are in fact some differences inside the units. What seems to be, is that one could start with a good map from either source and use those fuel and spark tables to load into any ECM. My stock unit has now developed the classic hot idle run-on that we had only seen in the race unit. When I am finished tuning it, my next project will be to look at what I think the cause is and correct it. ... A up-date from my post this morning I will be installing a Micron and American Sport Bike OAB on an XB9 this Friday and then get it mapped before we turn it into a 1208cc short stroke monster. ... More to come later. ... Terry

DYNO GUY:What elevation are you guys running dynos at?
What is the average HP/TQ loss per gain in elevation?

I hope that there might be an XB9, K+N, Drummer map one of these days. That is a pretty common set up, I should think.

Thanks for all your ingenuity and very hard work, guys.

Yeah... we need a good Drummer Map... Luckily I just picked up a stock header ;).

Anyway...

Terry - What do you mean by "Hot Idle Run-on"? You mean it takes a while to return to idle? If so, lower the idle. I like mine around 7-800 : ). I know, I know...

To answer your question Jeremy... You lose 3%/1K' elevation. Makes no difference to a dyno though as long as it's calibrated. That said... it can still be a "sad" dyno and show lower numbers than others, but it'll still be corrected for elevation at least : ).

Got my leathers BTW : )... Trackdays will commence shortly : ). Is there generally a tire guy at the track on trackdays?

A bike with a good normal idle if it has a Race ECM will sometimes show a momentary high idle following a good fast ride. This has shown up bikes used for track days and can be an issue it the rider tries to use compression braking. But XB12 street bikes when hot and on the first or second stop following a good fast run the idle will sometimes hold at 1100 to 1200 RPM for 5 or 6 sec. before it comes back down. It appears to be in the race ECM timing tables. It goes away if you swap ECM with a stock unit while the bike is still hot. It has been verified as a timing issue using the Digital Technician. ... I believe there is some temperature bias in all the ECMs and when added to the race ECM timing tables the timing might be just a little advanced in a few cells down low. .. Again I have proven that it's there, just need to get some of the other DL mapping issues done so I can find the cells and change their value to see if it goes away. ... Terry

It'll go away if you lower the idle too : ).

M1 Thanks. ... It's at about 925 now and I don't think want it any lower. ... The idle speed affects other ride-ability issues such as off idle lean popping along with the transition going into "Closed Loop." ... While the "ULY" and I think the other 06 Buells have one of the better charging systems, they are still marginal at idle. Again please understand the stock ECM it is fine and with the Race ECM it is OK 99% of the time. We have verified that it's a timing issue with the Race ECM only that we can see on the Digital Technician. ... It has been pointed it out to our District Service Representative for investigation. ... Nothing is out of limits and does not occur very often it appears to simply be a temperature management issue. ... But again thanks for your suggestion and if a drop of 50 RPM makes it go away then I know where to look in the timing tables to try a change, without it affecting my normal idle speed. ... Terry
