fellow members--

I would like to personally thank you for the informative, entertaining & often humorous posts that eventually helped me finalize my decision to purchase a '06 Buell CityX. I am excited about the bike and continuing to be an active member of this forum.

Just one area I need help--the stock seat is a wee bit too high for me. Since I planned to replace the seat, no big deal, but I am wondering: WHAT SEAT WILL HELP LOWER THE STRADDLING HEIGHT OF THE BIKE? Corbin, Buell Select, or Buell Streetfighter?

Based on the 3 seats above: Lower height is #1 priority, closely followed by comfort. I must say I sorta like the more agrressive position that the Streefighter allows (I assume it is slight), but how low and comfortable is the Streetfighter. Pros and cons of all thse seats are kindly requested. thanks in advance.

I believe the SX seat is the highest seat available. A "stock" seat from a 9S or 12S would likely solve your problem. I have a "Low" seat due to necessity, and it's not exactly comfy, unless I am "moving around" alot.

I believe the Corbin or Gunfighter would be lower than the SX as well.

Hey Fresno...welcome to the club. I don't own an XB (mine is an S3T)...so I am no help on the seat. Just thought I would say howdy since I am in Visalia. Glad to know that there are more in the nearby area...

If you have a staple gun and are handy with an electrical carving knife and sanding disk, you could always try peeling the stock cover back and reshaping the stock seat. While you're in there install a Propad for added comfort. Takes a little while, but worth it and relatively inexpensive.

Glitch -
What is so hot about the new "Select" seat? Looks a little strange, doesn't it?
I like my streetfighter, and the American Sport Bike cowl that fits it. Wonder if the cowl would go on the Select?
Wonder why I would spend $200 to replace a part that isn't broken:-)
(Wouldn't be the first time that happened:-)

The Select seat is about the same shape (seat area) as our Streetfighter, only they didn't use the same foam. It's either gel of memory foam. Way nice, it may be the same stuff Corbin uses. Black_sunshine, and Fran_dog both got one, and they're lovin' it.
A bonus is the Fart Troft on the pillion, no resistance to gases needing to leave the seat area

henry, yes I did buy that bike! and Visalia, nice to hear a voice from down the road. Getting a buell is awesome, but you know what takes the cake? meeting a great looking, single gal that rides a Harley--and has offered to break this newbie in! Needless to day, I am a happy dude right about now.

Fresno, I had to go the other way. My 03 XB9S was a little too short in the saddle, so I put a City-X seat on it. The Standard XB seat will drop you about 1 1/2" lower than the stock City-X seat. Welcome to the Buell world! Glad to have you.

Don't worry about the bike, there are no problems. I was just in there looking at it and was supposed to test ride it today. At least it sounds like it went to a good home. Congratulations!

Fresnobuell....I have the Select Seat and it is great. I started out with the Low Seat. Found it to hard and you cannot move around on it. I traded Odie for the stock 12S seat. Much better as far as moving around. Raised the height by 1". Then I got the Select Seat and it is Heaven! I believe that it is slightly taller than the sock seat but when you sit on it it squishes down and it is about the same.

henry, the dealer said that someone had requested to test ride the bike the day I bought it, so I am assuming that it was you...FYI, I had ordered a Firebolt that will arrive in late December (in case that might suit you), but thru lots of research on BadWed, I decided that the Firebolt may be have a little too much of an aggressive riding position. Plus the look of the Lightings just grew on me as time went on...ALOT! I get to pick up my bike on Tuesday--just hope there are some decent riding days coming up!

also, just some food for thought...my buddy just bought a Suzuki Hayabusa & the seat height is quoted at 31.7. The CityX is quoted at 31.37. The 'Busa seat feels quite a bit lower than the Buell. I can almost flatfoot the Busa, but with the Buell I am on the balls of my feet. Just wondering if someone knows why this might be? (figured with all the experts here) Chaulk it up to a mismeasurement/typo on one of the bikes? Not terribly important, just curious.

Fresno...I have an XB9S, and I have three seats for it. One is the stock, of course, and the other two are the low, and a Corbin. The low seat put me the closest to the ground, which I like. However, I spend lots of time in the saddle, and it gets pretty hard pretty fast. However, the Corbin has never been a pain in the butt for me. It is a little taller than the low, but still lower than stock. Also, the shape of the Corbin plants my behind solid when I get wild with the bike. Of the three seats, the Corbin is my favorite. I am guessing the Select is a great seat too, but I don't have any experience with it...

thanks everyone for the info and feedback. it has been really helpful. I am leaning towards the Select--I also think it will install easier than the Corbin.
Henry, they were probably referring to me when they said the Firebolt was spoken for--esp. if you talked to someone other than Peggy. I can assure you that I am no longer in the running for the 'Bolt. Very tough decision....I must say. You might want to put a deposit down ($500) and they might be able to get something ordered for you. I get the feeling that they don't have 100% control over the amount of inventory that they are sent, but if they can change the model on order if enough notice is given to the factory (they changed the order from a Uly to the 'Bolt for me.)

Congrats on the purchases!
You have some nice mountain roads up there guys. Any of you mid-valley guys get down here to the south end let me know and I'll show you a few good ones down here too.
Btw has Visalia finally gotten supportive of Buell? When I bought my XB I went to Lancaster as Visalia didn't seem very interested and looked like they could drop Buell.

seems like a good number of dealers got out of Buell after disappointing sales, but if Buell continues its recent rise in popularity, don't be surprised if interest is renewed. From HD Fresno, I was told that Buell production was slowed as demand slowed (ie losing dealers) & that it will take some time for production to meet the higher demand these days. '06 should see more Buells available for potential buyers.

Henry, FYI HD Fresno is allocated 7 '06 buells, and the are requesting an add'l 13 (but nothing is guaranteed). The 'Bolt that was ordered for me (delivery in late Dec) is not spoken for. I confirmed this with Peggy today as I was picking up my CityX. I had a GREAT first day--about an hour of riding time. Love the bike, it already seems to be talking to me--even in my novice hands.

"HD Fresno is allocated 7 '06 Buells"

Bull! East Troy has shown the ability to make at least 10,000 Buells a year and Kansas City can supplement that if needed. There are about 10 functional Buell dealers in the whole world... you do the numbers. There is no shortage of Buells- I stopped by a dealer recently that had just about every model in stock including the Uly, and hadn't sold a Buell in weeks... Shop around!

Henry, thanks. I don't think you can go wrong with either an S or R...I might go down to sit on the 'Bolt, just to get an idea of what it feels like.

buellgrrl, I am just repeating what I was told by the dealer. they have no reason to lie. Also, I called several shops in Northern California and they all had similiar stories and '06 delivery estimates. and what does "funtional dealer" mean?

Some of this is accurate, some is. . . . well "kinda accurate".

The dealer situation is certainly a "work in progress".

Bikes are allocated among contracted dealers as opposed to functioning dealers.

Special, hard fought by the way, exceptions have been made this year.

In some ways, the "non-functioning", at least in the past, have served as the moto-equivalent of buffers....holding bikes until Dave needs them.

"Allocation" is dealer talk to try to make you believe that their is a shortage of the product so you'd better buy it today and not quibble over price.

Reality is that their is excess production capacity to make cars, motorcycles, appliances, etc.. So if Buells start to sell better Buell and HD has plenty of production capacity to build plenty more.

>>>>Reality is that their is excess production capacity to make cars, motorcycles, appliances, etc.. So if Buells start to sell better Buell and HD has plenty of production capacity to build plenty more.

We are on the verge of entering a discussion of how economists (yes, I was one in a prior life) define "short-term" (generally thoght of as the period in which productive capacity (adding new mahcines, lines, tooling, etc) can't be changed and Long-term, the period of sufficient length to allow folks to engineer, test, develop, certify, acquire tooling, produce, market and sell.

The ability of Buell to expand and contract Ulysses prodcution can be referred to as "elasticity of production capacity" and has a host of contraints. These would include do we have additional machines or do we need to use on of the others?. . . if we use one of the others to make more of "A", what are we going to make less of. . . Can we get the parts required under the terms of our vendor contracts (no use making 10,000 bikes if you only have 9,000 windscreens) and infinitum.

Smarter folks than I are deeply involved in this.

Times are good. . .as eveidenced by the fact that we are even having this discussion.
