Sorry if you read this in my other post already but...


Ok, Dealership called me last night said it was a dead battery, New one 85 bucks. I say Ok I'm on my way to pick her up. Get there there like, Umm it's not ready yet and the tech wants to talk to you. Turns out its a bad stator and it ruined the battery because it wasn't charging it.

My question is, if the stator caused the battery to die should a replacement battery be covered on an extended warranty?

Can the old battery still be recharged? The tech said no, it's been drained down to far.

If the stator is a manufacturing defect its covered under warranty. if the battery wasn't defective it isn't covered. But since the defective part damaged the other parts I would call customer care and state my case. after all you didn't break the battery and the tech didn't break it either...

Draining a battery down to nothing that is not designed for deep cycle use is considered severe service, but won't necessarily harm a battery that was in good condition to begin with.

Only way to know for sure is to charge the battery fully (with a charger, not the bike), and then load test it.

roadrage is exactly right: fully charge, and load test the battery, that will establish its condition. now for the other issue, if a waranteed failure of the stator occured, and caused the battery to become damaged, will the dealer and or Buell replace it? when my fork seals failed, and thoroughly lubricated my brake pads, they replaced both seals and brake pads under warantee. in that case it could easily seen that the pad wear was minimal, but they were affected by the oil bath, and would be unsafe to operate. the battery however may be a very slightly different case, as it does have a bunch of miles/hours of operation on it, and would be expected to fail soon anyway.
