Do you really give out individual's names to call to discuss something of this importance in the US ? how about we all give Bob (Robert) Young a call, obviously bogus.

It is legit. You can fine it on the NHTSA web site under the PE number.

I only care if it gets me a check from HD to cover my expenses in fixing my electrical system.

Beyond that, I bought the bike to ride, not to whine and complain about it on some vague hope that someone else will fix it. So I fixed the problem.

Only 38 reports of stator failures documented? LOL! Come on. Everybody I know with one of these '09-10 bikes has had a failure.

I guess I should add mine to the list here if only to bolster the numbers that'll force H-D into a safety recall.

I never documented mine because I don't view it as a safety issue. I personally had a good battery, so I got plenty of warning that my electrical system was doomed. That, and HD has proven incompetence and penny-pinching in fixing it. I wouldn't trust them with yet another fix.

Regulators can be surprisingly business-like when you get into situations that are basically paperwork, etc.

I did some stuff around revenue recognition and documentation a few years back, and literally the government regulator had an ordinary business card with the seal of the United States on it and a direct dial number.

His job was to make sure the law was followed, mine was to provide the correct corresponding documentation per law to demonstrate our compliance.

The whole process was conducted in an ordinary business transaction like manner.

So, I can see it as reasonable the head of an office would make the initial contact with a formal notification like this and then refer the matter to more casual execution using a deputy in the office.

This is great. The investigation may not result in any action...but maybe.

I'm going to whine and complain cause it is a huge safety concern. I'm not sure where you ride but I kind of need my headlights and taillights when I ride. My last ordeal my bike was riding fine but the VR made the dash go out and since it was day time I just rode it home not realizing that when it went into system voltage error is had cut out my tail and brake light so I almost got rear ended since it was busy where I was at as I was leaving school. So if I get plowed because they won't fix a known issue that caused my taillight to go out I'm going to whine my ass off. Not only that I live in the middle of nowhere and I won't even ride my 1125 at night because I don't want the headlight to go out where I have no other lighting. That's all I need too is riding home at night and my headlight goes cause of a known issue they won't fix and as I'm slowing down basically blind I either go off the road or worse hit a deer. I'll whine once again. It's not good having a bike that you really want to enjoy but just don't feel safe riding. I'm still in the process of fixing mine because it seems like I fix one thing something else is messed up. I shouldn't have to keep dumping money into a bike to improve on stock components just to ride it and be safe, the bike should come that way stock. That's the purpose of buying a production motorcycle it is built to be safe and comply with the laws and standards of motorcycles for use on the roadways. If I didn't care about that I'd just throw an 1125 motor in a Ruckus and ride that.

Harley has done some testing on the Buell 1125 stator issue. According to Harley a rider gets plenty of warning after a stator failure and a engine stall. Warning time is has low as 20 minutes and is enough time to not recall the 1125s for a safety issue.

According to HD. There is a stator issue, but the harness fix is a good repair

Tomseliga's failed at 100 mph!

Mine went out at N.W. Portland's I-405 Southbound merge. No motor at 60 mph had to move over to take nearest exit. A dead bike coasting on a freeway with cars whizzing past is way too much adrenaline.

about 20 minutes. I was coming back from the beach on Hwy 30 and the light came on in Scappoose, about 20 miles from Portland.

As long as the bike gives a rider , warning before the stall, it's not a safety issue. No recall.

It seems like us buell owners are so loyal that there haven't been enough complaints to force h.d. to do much. with 90% ? of 2009/10 bikes having stator failure with such low miles the Implied Warranty must be violated?.

@Mako:
Amen! Do you think anything short of a public lynching of the current CEO will get HD to take this abuse of us Buell owners seriously?

Mine is a `09 1125 with 20,000 miles, stator and VR were replaced under warranty at about 15,000 miles.
Currently system is overcharging the battery, I'm replacing VR with CE 605 SB Kit from www.roadstercycle.com

The Aprilia guys are having the same problem, I guess the Rotax guys just can't design charging systems. : (
