On my 1125r the mirrors would pivot to the rear at freeway speeds. Also, I have modified an 1125cr top tree so I could use high bars on my r. Every time I got off the freeway, the mirrors were pivoted far enough to the rear to bump my hands in lock to lock steering. Today, I removed the mirrors, drilled out the rivets on a mill and pressed out the rivets. I then installed 5/16 fine thread allen bolts with segmented locking nuts. I rebolted the mirrors back on and was careful to bolt the assembly back together aligning the sets of bumps on each side of inside of the pivot. If you dont do this you could crush the bumps flat. Now the mirrors dont move at speed and seem to have a little bit less vibration. However, in a tip over or wreck, this might kill your mirrors. Be careful when you drill the rivets out. The rivet metal in not hardened. I used a kurt vise with special narrow width bolt on jaws. If the mirror slips in the vise, youll drill into the mirror casting. I used a 1/64th undersized drill bit. | ||

On the mirrors there is a sticker saying not to adjust them from the stem, this sticker seems to be removed by the dealers. This is probably the cause of mirrors folding in at speed, nice one on the fix buddy. | ||

Don't take this as a criticism, it isn't meant to be.. But that's not really a "mod" it's a "fix" as you'r mirrors were "broken" when they were folding in at speed, now you've fixed them so they work as they were supposed to. Repeated (i.e. more than one LOL) folding of the mirrors at the base does actuall break them so they are no longer rigid enough to resist the airflow. Nice fix though  | ||

Hi Jules, I thought they were designed to be folded. I need to fold mine when I take it in and out of my shed as the door is a little narrow. Am I doing damage by repeatedly folding my mirrors? | ||

LOL - harsh  Theer have been a few threads on this topic, here's a couple of examples: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/408791.html http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/353285.html That last one has the following nugget of info: After asking me if I had been "folding" the mirrors, I replied that the issue had been present since I took delivery. The Buell staffer told me that the mirrors are designed to "give" in a tip-over or other minor bump, but they are not intended to be folded repeatedly. The mirrors have small plastic washers that provide the "give", but they compress if the mirrors are folded and don't hold position any more. Jayz - your profile says you have a CR - the info above only applies to the R. You should be fine just slackening off the lock nut at the base of your handlebar mount whenever you need to fold them and pinching it tight when they're back in normal position... | ||
