Dean - after reading the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout, I know your win was all down to your exhaust!

J/K... congrats on your kill, cagers need to respect the au-thor-i-tie of the 1125!

: )

The exhaust on the vette was loud enough to hear it over mine, so I'm guessing he had something under the hood, but it obviously wasn't enough.

"The exhaust on the vette was loud enough to hear it over mine, so I'm guessing he had something under the hood, but it obviously wasn't enough."

Just because it was loud you think it had mods under the hood?

Lots of guys do exhaust and nothing else... Modern cars sound way meaner with only an exhaust system than older cars do. They changed the firing order from 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 to 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3... makes them sound completely different.

Did Someone say mismatched race?

Like I said, just guessing, and it was pretty quick, but I did catch and pass him twice, so maybe not.
It's rare for me to win anything, I'm usually not fast enough or whatever.

Captain - It wouldn't matter much if it was a Z06 either. As I was saying my previous posts, it is all about power-to-weight ratio. Let's go straight to the ZR1 comparison. Road and Track's "Culture Clash" article (http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/comparison/cultu re-clash) lists specs and timed results for the ZR1. It weighs 3530 lbs with a driver and has 638 HP (at the crank) for a ratio of 5.53 lbs for every HP. An 1125R with a 170 lb rider weighs about 610 lbs and puts out about 146 HP at the crank (Buell SAE specs) for a ratio of 4.18 lbs for every HP. The 1125 has a 25% advantage.

Now to the practical application of those calculations. R&T has the ZR1 doing an 11.5 ET at 128.7 mph. With a decent, no pro, rider, an 1125R will do 10.5's at 135+ mph all day. Not only is the 1125 reaching the 1/4 a whole second earlier, it is walking away from the Vette at 7 mph.

Now for 19% more than a ZR1 you can have a 2010 911 Turbo with the PDK dual-clutch transmission. Specs? 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and an 11.0 ET at 128 mph! Now that is getting close to an 1125R, not so much a BMW S1000RR at 9.69 ET at 154 mph...

Cars are fun - Bikes are more fun! - I had "Bandit" in his TransAm try to stay with me on my CR...It was a blast, I didn't really pay attention to where he was other than behind me....I was impressed though when he caught up at a stop sign a mile or so down the road (I did let up after about a 1/2 mile)...and while I smoked him bad, he was indeed playing pretty hard to have shown up at the stop when he did.

Yes but remember also... How many riders here are <170lbs.? I doubt many! I am at 160 soaking wet but most guys I'm guessing are 200+

0-60 in 2.8 seconds and an 11.0 ET at 128 mph

Be careful about car companies misleading you on the performance specs. I was looking at the brochure for that new $375,000 Lexus supercar and it showed "0-60 in 2.8 seconds" (don't remember the exact time) in big bold print on the cover. Well, reading the complete spec sheet in the brochure I discovered it was 0-60 KILOMETERS per hour.

Fresnobuell - I agree with you about company marketing, they usually are BS unless it is Porsche or BMW, who typically are conservative with their performance specs.

In any event, the 911 Turbo with PDK results I referenced are from 2 different magazines' instrumented testing. One article had 0-60 in 2.9 while another well-known magazine had 0-60 in 2.8, but both had the 1/4-mile ET at 11.0 @ 128 mph.

Daddy like!

Eh...4 wheeled supercars don't interest me one bit. Probably cause I know I will probably never be able to afford one, and it I COULD I would LIKE to think I wouldn't spend that obscene amount of money on a car.

On the other hand, I LOVE bikes because I know I can afford almost every production bike I read about in the bike magazines. I did say ALMOST! I COULD buy that new Aprilia, but I could never buy that Porsche you are referring to. Big difference to me.

>>>>Now for 19% more than a ZR1 you can have a 2010 911 Turbo with the PDK dual-clutch transmission.

That PDK, assuming you opted for the Sport Chrono Plus, is also aided by Porsche Launch Control.

Ya gotta love'em . . .

quote:

Launch Control is a supplementary function of the double-clutch transmission (Porsche Doppelkupplung - PDK) in conjunction with the Sport Chrono Package Plus. It enables the best possible starting acceleration – a racing start.

How does Launch Control work?
With transmission range “D” or “M” engaged, press the Sport Plus button. Press the brake pedal with your left foot and then press the accelerator right down to the floor with your right foot. The engine torque rises, the clutch is slightly engaged. “Launch Control active” appears on the instrument cluster. Now release the brake as quickly as possible – and be prepared for maximum acceleration.

Videos of the Launch Control system abound on YouTube. This is the ultimate safety device for leaving a busy intersection in NYC.

I love it when someone starts spitting out these so called 1/4 mile times for stock cars.

11.5 for a zr1? Yeah, i'm sure it can cover a 1/4 mile that slow, but with a bad driver.

do you even realize how many 10 second vettes and even mustangs that are out there roaming the streets?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_ times

I know, repost, but this course is got to be one of the best overall tests of speed and handling. The Viper and Vette are about the same as the fastest motorcycle times. Granted, you probably won't run into these guys on the street. The most impressive thing is how good the V-cars can be - they are top 10 on the course.

You don't need a supercar to be fast. 2011 mustang gt with catback exhaust, tune, 100 shot of nitrous and some skinnies will handle most riders on a 1125, at least at the strip.

Alot more 10 second bike running around than cars and for ALOT less money..sometimes no more than the purchase price of the bike.

Not sure how much you have spend on a Mustang to do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, if its even possible.

Bueller4ever - The 1/4-mile ET I stated for the ZR1 was from Car and Driver, a pretty reputable magazine. Maybe their test drivers are not NHRA-quality for standing start launches, but I think it's representative of what a good average Joe is going to achieve. The point of my posts was to compare average Joe's racing stock bikes vs. cars, hence the numbers I used and sources I referenced.

If you want to start substituting modified cars, how about substituting a modified bike? I live north of Orlando, FL and there are so many modded Hayabusa's that show up at every bike night. Now most are blinged out just for show, but I bet there are several that are set up correctly for ETs with riders that know how to use them. I'm sure those particular types wouldn't mind racing for pinks with just about any street-legal car in the area. Or forget that, just get the bone-stock S1000RR I referenced in the previous post. In case you missed it, ham-fisted motorcycle journalist get those to go 9.69 ET at 154 mph.

That 2011 Mustang 5.0 is pretty amazing in the video you posted. Let's get back to the comparison I was making. So a 10.58 ET at 128.27 mph for a $32K Mustang is pretty damn awesome in the car world. I bought my '09 1125R for $7K OTD and with a decent rider with 1/4 mile experience (not me) it would likely do a 10.58 also. Except the trap speeds have been shown in multiple magazine tests to be in the mid-to-high 130's. So while the Stang and 1125 are crossing the stripe at the same time, the 1125 is jogging away from it at 10 mph.

The thing for me is this: that same 1125 is comfortable with no changes except for Michelin Pilot Race tires doing 1:25's all day long at Jennings GP Racetrack (with me). That same GT 5.0 without any changes except wheels/tires would likely not even be in the 1:30's with ANY driver.

My point here again is that stock modern sport motorcycles are far more capable in terms of pure performance (ET/trap speeds and lap times) than just about any stock car available. And as Fresnobuell points out, at far less cost.

Plus, in riding sport motorcycles for 21 years and having every manner of internal-combustion vehicle try and race me at one time or another, I have never come across a 10-second car. Or any worthy car for that matter.

Don't get me wrong, I love cars and will dream of that PDK-equipped 911 Turbo every time I play the Lotto. But if I won, I would be picking it up shortly after the first ride on my new Desmosedici ; )

There is no such thing as a reputable magazine.

Anyway, posting times of zr1's or the lexus supercar is silly. You'll never run into a zr1 on the street, but you could easily run into a 10 second mustang or corvette.

I wouldn't underestimate anyone in a corvette willing to run me.

I love both the "cage" and the bike.

I think they have never had the opportunity to take an 11 or 10 second car down the 1320. It's quite a different experience than a bike.

I'm shopping for a 2011 mustang gt as we speak!

I may not be able to afford a supercar, but I can make your average joe car pretty freaking super for not a lot of coin.

Bueller4ever, your probly right. Its Intense to drive one and riding passenger in one is plain scary. I have not taken one down the track but I've driven a '67 fastback 438 SBF twin turbo that's makes 750 with a TKO 5 speed and that was retarded fast.

Cool on the stang man. I've already got my pretty freakin super car, haha, its just waiting for a new rear end.

It's amazing.

I do love cars, they were my first love before a college buddy turned me onto bikes. Now I see the light ; )

Anyway, I've been reading the reviews of that new 5.0 Stang, and all the specs and positive driving impressions are right on the heels of a $70,000 BMW M3. I've always loved Mustangs but sadly never owned one. I did once rent a 5-speed Saleen S281 in LA and blitzed Angeles Crest, Topanga Canyon and actually got a ticket on Sunset Blvd going West towards the beach, it was that damn fun.

That new 5.0 is definitely looking tasty, especially for the money.
