So I finally had my first real crash today. Low sided making a left turn, cold tires and possibly some gravel? My jacket took most of the force off my body, I just have some road rash on my arm.

Bike looks like it crashed pretty well, my side fairing took a lot of the sliding. Left mirror broke off, and the clutch cover/swing arm are scuffed a bit. I'm going to take it into the dealership this weekend to get it checked out, but I rode home and it seems about fine.

So my next question is where can I find some replacement parts at reasonable prices or am I pretty much restricted to HD and Erik Buell Racing?

I'll get pictures up soon too, cause thats what everyone really wants to see : )

Erik Buell Racing or Ebay but Erik Buell Racing pricing and quality are better.

How fast were you going? You'd have to be at a low lean angle for cold tires to come into play.

Most likely some junk in the street. Gravel + a little oil or coolant, and down you go. That's the perils of urban riding.

Tires don't get "hot" at ordinary urban street speeds. At least not hot in the realm of a race tire, which operate well above 200F.

Mirrors are on B/O, I believe, but since this isn't warranty, just buy a set of take-offs from Erik Buell Racing. They may have a pod or two -- email and ask.

Parts for these things are kinda tough to find right now. Your dealer, Erik Buell Racing and E-Bay are the best bets.

Crashing sucks! However it is the reality of what we enjoy. As they say, not a matter of "if" but "when".

Glad you're OK and good luck with the rebuild. As mentioned, Erik Buell Racing, eBay, American Sport Bike are your friends. I'll throw in a new supplier, a friend of mine started this company but now is no longer involved, but they are supposedly still good to deal with when they have something you need: http://buellsterparts.com/

E B R Has some "take off" body parts - new, but taken off bikes they have converted to racing.
I am still waiting for my first real crash - we know it has to happen to us all...

And here I was trying to talk myself out of the axle (F/R) sliders at A S B ... But you've helped convince me to place the order. Glad you're okay!

I just had a similar crash a week and a half ago. Broke off my left mirror and the top oil cooler line. Ordered the mirror from the local dealership and got it in a little over a week. About seventy bucks for the mirror, very simple install.

where do you guys order parts from? I hear about all of these people that have three month part order delays, but i have yet to experience this. I ordered $2k of parts to fix my bike after my bro wrecked it, and that included a new set of bodywork. I got it within 2 weeks of ordering it. I just put in a parts order last friday, and all the parts came in a week. I have ordered from 2 different dealers and never had a problem. I'm beginning to think it has to do with the dealer.

When i got my order, the new airbox cover i ordered was scratched. They said they could overnight a new one from harley to me. I don't get how someone is waiting three months for the body work.

Glad you're OK.

I lowsided (same side) on Ortega Hwy. a few weeks ago. Roughly the same damage, but more so: front and tail fairings, pillion cowl, footpegs and supports, rear sprocket, etc. Total came to about $4500 including labor (I had some aftermarket stuff). See my thread "So Bummed . . ." for pics and discussion. The best deal going is to get the swingarm from Erik Buell Racing ($250 or so, vs. $450 brand new).

I can send you prices and part numbers for everything I see in your pics except the side fairing. Of course, you you know what that costs and where to get it. Let me know.

Marcidesade, I checked out your crash thread and I was wearing the same helmet but its blue/white. I have a lot less damage than you so hopefully I can get away with a rear view mirror, fairing, and pry bar to straighten some stuff out. How did you rack up at $4500 bill?

Parts came to over half of that, and labor about another $2K. Surprisingly, insurance is also covering my helmet ($230).

Here's a brief rundown on some of the parts:

Front fairing & support: $256
Mirror: $79
Rear blinker: $50
Jardine tail tidy: $65
Handlebar, PSR Clutch lever, Grip, and bar end: $175
Left pod plus inlet & outlet ducts $120
Airbox cover: $220
Tail fairing and cowl: $200
Rider/passenger footpegs & brackets and shifter: $350
Swingarm: $425
Sprocket and belt: $300
Stator cover: $200

The tech said (and insurance knows) that many of the parts like fairing bracket and footpeg supports may be perfectly good. But apparently they replace them as a matter of course when the associated parts are damaged because there's not really a good way to know; some subtle bending might not be visible . . .

I'm surprised to learn that the great majority of the parts are already in. At this point (3 weeks in) they're only missing the swingarm, stator cover, and 2 pieces of plastic (front and rear fairing I believe). However, I read someone else say he's been waiting for those same parts for 3 farking months. We'll see . . .

Marcodesade if the other guy waiting for the same parts is replacing stuff on his own bill yours may get bumped up because there is insurance involved. An insurance co can write a vehicle off if parts take to long to get. I work at a Nissan dealer and we had a customer with a brand new fully loaded Murano that he had just taken delivery of and a week or so later got rear ended and the rear hatch was on extended back order (more than likely that the stock they had on them was going to the production line of the cars) the estimate for parts and labor to fix it was only about 15% of the cars value and the wrote it off because they couldn't get parts

the dealer may be trying to keep tis from happening to you

Mmmmmmm, an RT-4 with full bodywork. This should look good. Got a few in front of you to finish, but I started some prep work to get them completed a little sooner. I'm building 2 of them right now, then an RT-2. Yours is after that. I have the shells welded for yours already.
