What would really answer a ton of questions here would be to post a copy of the service manual so we could look and see things like water flow path, service procedures, valve adjustment etc.

I would think the service manual is in the final stages of production and will be printed not many days before bikes ship.

The tech writers are now trying to keep up with any last minute changes to the bike. The parts books writer is likely nagging the project manager for updated bills of materials.

Once again Father Gess is spot on . . . the Service and Parts Manual will be released concurrently with the bike.

Intensive training at HDI will insure enrolled dealers are up to snuff prior to shipments.

And . . . there is an INTENSE "Infant Care" program in place and ready to go.

I have a complete set of 2008 manuals on order (how can I quit. . . my set is complete from 1987?) and I'll advise the moment they are available.

Court - any chance the factory is considering a soft copy this year? Or in the near future? It'd be great to have them all on CD...

They already have soft copies (pdf's), but they are not for resale. They are only packaged in the Digital Technician software.

There have been discussions in a meeting last November.

I have not given up.

There exist "soft copies" that are kept updated with the most current information (i.e. misprints, part numbers and so forth corrected and all superseded stuff) and the electronic equivalent of little yellow sticky notes.

I'm a communication freak. It would seem to me that there is great value in having a service tech, customer and Buell Customer Service looking at the SAME manual when pursuing resolution of a concern.

The countervailing technology is the stereotypical "oh my gosh if we let them look in" fears. I disagree, but do concede there is some merit.

I think the concerns can be ameliorated by some simple means like selling an annual "membership", if even just for $1, whereby you waive lots of stuff and confess this is a work product in flux and subject to all the quirks that happen when you try to get thousands of pictures and numbers correct and properly associated.

I'd also suggest that it be within the Buell Owners area of the website.

A "complete set", at least in my mind . . . is a copy of every manual that Buell Motor Company and Buell Motorcycle Company have ever published including P&A catalogs, the 1995 Buell Touring Accessories book and the various bodyworks, dealer set-up manuals and so forth. . . . you know . . . the type of thing your wife would kill you for keeping in the house.

A major customer of the day job company has a policy that "the web is the master", whereby any printed documentation is considered potentially out of date as soon as it's printed and only the web files are considered current. It would seem that this company's program of "the web is the master" could be reviewed by the H-D/Buell corporate legal people and something similar brought onto line for us customers who have printed repair books that may or may not have the most current nor most accurate up to date processes documented in them which might potentially lead to problems for us home mechanics who with all good intentions attempt to work "by the book", as do some dealership mechanics who also might not be completely current with their printed repair manuals. I should not need to say anything further, those who should know already know what I'm speaking of.

It would be nice to have a computer in the garage and a way to check if what I intend to do is actually the most current way to do it, safety and other wise.

Manuals can be funny things.

Quick story:
I was in the Army in Germany. I was getting ready to take a two week trip through Austria and Italy.

The morning of the trip I noticed my Mini Cooper (the original design) had a bad drive joint. After 2 hours of cussing and sweating in a parking lot, I finally got it changed.

After I got back from Italy I bought a manual. Luckily I didn't have it before that. It said you had to pull the engine to change the drive joint!

Reminds me of the Buell manual saying you have to remove the idler pulley to get the rear tire changed. : )

Be mindful that whenever you discover something like that . . there is a pre-addressed form in the front of every manual that provides the opportunity to notify the good folks in Technical Publications.

Lest someone sneeze at their efforts, imagine someone rolling a motorcycle into your office, 3 months after it was due, and telling you that you have 3 weeks to develop the manual, photos and procedures.

The TechPubs folks literally get caught in the gap between the development team and eagerly waiting customers.

If you can help . . do.

Or the CA addition to the S-2 manual that had the Quiksilver needle adjustment reversed? Drove me nuts chasing the darn pinging when I just knew I was adjusting that needle richer!!

A web based service manual on the Buell Owners site could be cool. Always up to date and HD could control when & who downloads/views the info.
A valid VIN# could be used to keep track of owners.

Court - if you have a "spare" copy of that '95 touring accessory catalog (hard, soft, out of date or not, LOL) I'd love a peek at it just for grins. I've already scored a VGC dealer brochure for my S2, and of course bought a new shop manual when I bought the bike.

Yeah. I'm a paperwork junkie. I still have all the gas receipts and the gate admission ticket from the trip to VIR when Carroll Shelby signed my car for me.
