I've got a set of cams from an XB. Came off of a running bike with only about 4,000 miles on it. Cams are in very good condition.

This is the same grind as the Screaming Eagle "E" cam with .551 lift, so it could add some performance to the pre-XB Buells. I also have the pinion gear so it should be able to be used on the pre-2001 Buells as well.

If Tom K doesn't take them, I'll let them go for $125 shipped. If that is no good, make me an offer.

There are no cracks, chips, or any other damage. They're in very good shape.

Guys, just as a disclaimer, I can't guarantee 100% that these will fit anything but an XB. I would assume that they would since most other components are interchangeable with Sportsters and other Buells. I was intending to put them in my 2001 Sportster when I did a 1250 kit with XB heads, but I have put the engine conversion on hold to finish the XB9S front fork swap I've started. If nobody buys them I will still plan to install them on my Sporty until I'm told otherwise. If you have any questions, please ask me and I'll answer them to the best of my ability, but I can't guarantee that they'll fit.

I have a couple of pics if anyone wants me to email them.

I've sent replies and heard nothing from anyone but Tom K. They're still up for sale.

Those cams will not work on a tuber!! They only work on XB engines.

Why wouldn't those cams work in anything else? You might have to change the pinion gear? What else is different?

All:

I don't think Puddlepirate is trying to misrepresent these cams. Here is what I think I know (correct me if I'm wrong):

The timing cup keyway is in one location on the XB cams and a different location for the XL (tube frame) and Blast engines. As far as I know the cams will physically interchange amongst the engines, but you will have to get creative with the timing cup keyway location. I was going to buy them for our Blast but a friend clued me in that the Blast uses the XL keyway location. I can't explain the change from XL to XB, but why they didn't make the XB and Blast location the same is beyond me.

I seem to remember someone making a timing cup with both keyway locations, but I can't seem to track it down. Maybe it was wishfull thinking on my part.

Yes, the keyway is in a different location and the timing marks are different. You could make them work with a custom timing cup and a lot of custom fitting but it's probably more work than it's worth. On older tubers you number the cams 1,2,3,4 from left ro right. On an XB it is from right to left.

But if you feel you can make them work then please go ahead and buy them. I am sure the seller would be very happy. ;)

Nemesis:

Thanks for the additional cam info.

I briefly thought about buying them for the Blast even after I found out about the keyway difference just to see if I could make them work. Common sense told me that it's too much work considering what I am starting with and I already have too many moto projects, anyway

I wasn't trying to screw anyone, I was listing the information that I had. Thanks to Tom K and Nemesis for clearing this up and possibly saving some heartache.

I have an email from Eric of Chicago H-D saying that the XB cams will fit an XL. That was the information I was going on...

"John,
Our resident engine building expert suggested using all Buell XB12 top-end components (cam, pistons, heads etc.) since they are already matched to each other and produce reliable 100+hp figures from the factory.
I have attached parts diagrams and parts lists of the XB12 cylinder, head, valves and motor mounts (they may be different on the head) for your reference.
Thank you,

I never paid that close of attention, but, know looking at the service manual, I suppose a you could just swap the front intake came to the rear intake place and go from there. I did something similar when I put two front heads on an ironhead sporty to make it like an XR-750...just count teeth for timing marks

Well the Blast & XL timing cup keyways are different (in placement only). But SE XL'04 cams bolt right in a Blast and if XB cams bolt right in an XL, then I dont see why the XB cam wont bolt in a Blast?!
I dont see the placement of the keyway as that big of a deal since the XL & Blast use the same SE adjustable ignition and you just rotate it for whatever timing cup you're using.
So if I'm wrong someone please correct me and if I'm right, are those cams still for sale?

PS the XB uses a funky looking timing cup. Different, I assume, because of the fuel injection (unless of course I got sent the wrong cup!)?

Yes, I've still got them for sale if you want them. As you can tell from this thread, nobody is totally sure what they will or won't fit. If you want them, they're yours.

If I get around to it, I'm going to throw them on Ebay sometime this week.

We used XB cams in my sons big bore Blast. (Half of them that is.) It's been a few years so I don't remember the details.

I do remember we had the window in the timing cup welded up and we cut a new one where we needed it.
