as much as I like Pedrosa proving what a great rider he is, I'm glad he kept the scores close between him and Rossi.

I do miss Matt's pre and post race commentary though.

I guess it's been long enough. If you haven't seen the race yet, stop reading and go watch it NOW!

Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Marquez were in a high-stakes poker game when the rain came down. Lap after lap they soldiered on with their slicks as the riders behind them pitted one at a time to switch to their "wet bikes" (Aleix Espargaro was the first in).

Lorenzo "blinked" first. Maybe he had a flashback to last year's Assen race? In any event, he pitted and missed seeing Dani "fold." He got back out on the track and apparently mis-read his pit board. They were displaying "P2" to let him know he was now in second place with Pedrosa doing his best to salvage some points. Instead, he read it as "12" and figured that was it, the race is over... might as well try to get as many points as possible.

On the next lap, Marquez "folded" and this time Lorenzo did NOT mistake his pit board's "P1" indication. As Kenny Rogers said: "You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em." In this case, age and experience won out over youth and enthusiasm.

For his wise decision to pit early, Aleix Espargaro took second after a late charge by Cal Crutchlow who finished third. An "Open" bike scored a podium for the first time, and Aleix was LEGITIMATELY on the podium (not as just the "first open (or CRT) rider").

And I got to have my "Dream Podium" for the first time this year: A "Honda Free" one!

A good race and an excellent finish. Marquez WILL win the title, but it's nice to see he's human and NOT infallible.

Dovi on the pole! Marquez starts from the second row with the two people he HAS to beat in front of him (Rossi and Pedrosa).

Even better, the man with the "race pace" for the weekend seems to be Lorenzo, also on the second row right beside Marquez.

Race takes off at midnight tonight (EDT). Guess I'll find out tomorrow morning on the DVR. SHOULD be interesting though. The Hondas aren't doing that well on Honda's track...

The Duck might be on the pole, but I'll be very surprised if it's even on the box at the end of the race. If the race were only five laps long, then it might have a chance, but in almost every race this year, the bike fades once the tires go off.
Rossi starting from the front row, however is something that Marquez and Pedrosa should be concerned about. I'd love to see Rossi spank everybody again.

Superbike Planet reported that right after QP2 ended, Rossi congratulated EVERYONE wearing Ducati colors for grabbing their first pole position since Stoner left them. He's a real class act.

Dovi is saying that he has a shot at a podium finish and that's true... he's finished on the podium in the dry already this year. But yeah, I'd love to see BOTH Rossi and Pedrosa finishing ahead of Marquez just to keep it alive for at least one more round.

One of the few real motorcycle pleasure left on BadWeB has been this topic, and in particular Matt's input. Witness how quiet it is around here lately.

I've enough things to get on with when pissing around on the Internet. One of them is not following Moto GP. Why, because it's not been necessary with Matt's commentary, combined with my weekly read of MCN.

Without the knowledge of racing I'm use to around here, I'm so much less informed.

Pity as it's one of the few topics on BadWeB where everyone seems to get along.

Oh well, they sell vegemite at my grocery store.

Will be there in November but only to bounce along to New Zed.

Philip Island? Had the Stones gig been similar time we'd have done it. Instead it's the Burt Munro Challenge. That and riding cool motorbikes around the South island for a week. Oz can wait.

Is it possible to think Marquez may serve as a block for pedrosa to give Honda the 2nd in points??? Rossi and Lorenzo just dont have that Luxury.

Now That was an interesting race. Phillip Island is always a race to keep an eye on.
Didn't somebody crash there one year because a seagull flew into him?
I think that Phillip Island is to Moto GP what the Daytona Short Track is to AMA Flat Track Racing.

Well, we've had a "Honda free" podium once this season, but this was even sweeter... an "All Yamaha" podium. Too bad Yamaha needed the entire first half of the season to get up to speed or this might've been a more interesting season for me.

Rossi continues to amaze! Age is just a number.

Got to watch the Moto2 (honda cup) and the Moto 3 race this weekend for the first time in a long time. Really good racing in the Moto3 class. Moto 2 sure is not like the first year they raced. My only question is why is EBR and Hero not building Moto 3 bikes. It would seem like the most logical class to run in, what does Hero build a year a couple of million 200cc to 250cc bikes and it has always seemed to me that Erik Buells frame designs would transfer to single cylinder bikes.

I always felt the same about Moto2. I've always considered Erik one of the most brilliant chassis engineers in the industry; Moto2 would've been PERFECT. Everybody gets the same engine so it is the chassis designer who is the most important aspect of that series. Would've been SWEET. But now, with HERO's involvement, a full engine/chassis package would be possible in Moto3.

Super bike planet. A spectacularly bad piece of conjectural journalism masquerading as informed journalism.
On Moto 3 Miller only qualified 8th. What is interesting was that a group of Spanish riders boxed him and fenati in using blocking tactics to stop them getting any sort of run. When Miller and Fenati slowed to let them go, they slowed also and held formation. When the pair tried to escape to the pits by riding through, the pack followed them and tried to box them in again. An incredible display of bad sportsmanship which goes a long way to explaining mMiller and Fenati's difficulties in qualifying over the last four races! Given that only two riders stood to benefit from this; Rins and Marquez, I begin to wonder what sort of game is being played?

Definitely garbage written by a garbage website. Authored by "staff"?

I could write an article why Stoner was "probably" laughing under his breath when Marquez crashed out. It would be be just as valid as the stupidbikeplanet article cited.

Whopper?
Unfortunately, Jaimec, I was there and I saw it happening throughout qualifying. The conjectural part is that having happened once it MAY explain strange results over the last three races.
As to superbike planet there was no quoted real information on which the conclusions of the article was based. I am also not trying to sell my conjecture as informed journalism.
