Jaimec you may see Yamaha logo at Superbikeplanet but that just means they don't get thrashed by them. They are very definitely a shrill for Honda.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Honda logo at that site, actually. It's always been "Yamaha Yamaha Yamaha."

Or are you guys of the "One Jap company is like the next" mentality??

They are definitely NOT "Pro-Buell," that's for damn sure. I was actually SHOCKED to see this article there as they usually IGNORE anything having to do with Erik.

But enough digression... this thread is for MotoGP discussion and you guys have already pulled me too far off topic.

Be interesting to see the next test when ALL of the Factory, Satellite and CRT bikes will be together at last.

Stoner will win it easily.
he has the best bike and he is the best rider.
as the season develops, spies will choke.

If you want to see how well the CRT bikes will do just look at the time sheets of the AMA superbikes the last year Spies was racing Maladin. The joke was they were the last 990 MotoGP bikes being raced. That was also the year when they had the World superbike race at Utah they made the AMA bikes run a different course.

Oh how I laughed.......Which rider should they have then, or is a multi world champion and best rider of his generation not enough? Maybe you think they should re-hire Stoner, who only won a championship for Ducati because they had the best bike that year?
Ducati will survice after their poor season and come back to win again. They cannot afford not to.

Got to see how far off the pace the CRT bike are, and where those pseudo-factory Aprilias stand.

I think the gap will still be relatively huge unfortunately, but as the season goes on we'll see some big improvements from the CRT brigade in general and the ART is particular. Both Honda and Ducati have both started complaining about the Aprilia so they must be worried by the potential of it.

Personally I would like to see the whole grid on CRT bikes, with many more chassis manufacturers involved. get rid of the expensive factory prototypes altogether : ) The racing would be much closer and there would be much more technical interest too. The factories would still get to develop their road bikes just as they do now and could supply race engines to CRT teams, so they would actually lose very little in terms of development.

At least we have the prospect of a great Moto2 and Moto3 season to look forward to : )

Not too surprising when you think that the RSV4 was designed originally as a MotoGP contender before Aprilia pulled out. It is really too advanced for WSb : )

I'd like to see the ART bikes once they get the gear driven cams etc fitted and get the chassis dialled in properly. I think they might scare a few satellite/privateer teams this year.

Seems that Yamaha have now said that they don't see any problems in supplying lease bikes to satellite teams for a cost of around €1 million per year. Which is a big surprise and must be annoying for Tech3, seeing as they currently charge around €3 million per bike!
They (all 3 factory teams) have had years to try and cust costs and done absolutely nothing. Now that Dorna are threatening to take their ball away and remove factory bikes altogether they can suddenly afford to cust costs?

I suggest they ban all of the factory teams and just run CRT for the next 2 seasons, and I'd be willing to bet we would get closer racing (even without the prima donna riders), more winners and much more technical interest without losing much in the way of speed.

Neither did Casey Stoner in 2009 or 2010.

It is foolish to discount Ben Spies, WSBK champion in his rookie season.

I get the impression that you aren't especially knowledgeable about motorcycle racing, but are very enthused about it, which is cool. But given that, you might tread a bit more lightly with the authoritarian pronouncements. They can seem very foolish. You'll be hard pressed to find a knowledgeable moto racing fans who would bet against Ben Spies winning a MotoGP championship.

At the presentation of the Aprilia ART, the announced weight was 165kg, the same as the WSBK weight limit. This means that a 20,000Euros engine is pretty heavy. No exotic material

Prototypes are at 157kg

So what is the biggest problem for the ART ??? The extra 8 kilos , or the missing 10Hp ???

In my opinion if the difference between a prototype and a CRT , is 8kg and 10Hp, who needs prototypes ???

I am looking forward to seeing how Colin Edwards does. It will be interesting to see how long it takes his new team to be competetive.

In the mean time Yamaha is going to be tough with Lorenzo and Spies and I have to beleive that Ducati is going to step up.

There are at least two contradictions in there, but you also forget that Rossi beat all the names you mention ; ) To say that SToner would win in any racing series when he actually didn't win anything until he rode for Ducati in MotoGP is a little speculative to say the least.
Some riders seem much more suited to production racing than to prototypes, just as some car racers are better in sports cars or Nascar than F1. Checa was never too impressive in MotoGP yet is a run away winner in WSB. Kenan Sofuoglu is a brilliant WSS rider yet failed miserably in both superbike and Moto2....horses for courses methinks.

Some riders in MotoGP aren't necesarily better than their WSB counterparts but are there because they have deep pockets and can pay for rides (although even they are all hugely more talented than us!)

There are also HUGE differences between MotoGP and WSB, even if you include the CRT bikes with modified WSb engines. Frames, tyres, brakes are all different as are electronics. Just because they share a basic similarity and two wheels doesn't make them the same : ) AMA is diferent to WSB, and BSB etc as well now, so it is difficult to compare riders competing in different championships on differeing machinery.

You'll be hard pressed to find a knowledgeable moto racing fans who would bet against Ben Spies winning a MotoGP championship.

I think that may be over reaching slightly ; ) I think he may win a championship but he has to step up this year and start winning races if he is to achieve that or even stay in the factory team for next year. Warning have already been issued that he needs to win at least two races this year to satisfy his masters at Yamaha, and all the top riders are out of contract in 2013 so will be looking for factory rides (if they still exist!). This is a crucial year for Ben (and certain others) if they wants to stay at the top.

Obviously being the first morning of a 3 day test nothing much can be read into it....but that won't stop people coming to their own conclusions of course : ) It is encouraging to see Randy De Puniet on his ART (CRT) machine in amongst the Ducatis already though : ) 2 seconds off the front at this stage is pretty good too for a new bike/concept.

Seems like a lot of people did very few laps this morning too. Rossi only did 6, and the most anyone did was Lorenzo at 22. Maybe weather wasn't too great first thing?

As at 12.55pm Randy De Puniet is 10th fastest (ahead of Rossi & Abraham) and only 1.44 off Lorenzo at the front. Even more remarkable is that De Puniet has only completed 10 laps so far.

I think we will see a flood of moaning and complaints from the factories and Ducati in particular this weekend regarding the Aprilia CRT bikes : )

As long as Ducati can claim an Aprilia engine for 20.000euros, there is nothing to complain about.

Randy is fastest than Barbera as well. His confidence must be rising.... People at Ducati must be feeling sick..... Only Nicky Hayden shows true speed on the Ducati and keeps the Aprilias behind.

What is the cost of the Aprilia ART, for a team ??

Not too sure of the exact cost. The aim for CRT was to keep the cost of the bike to less than 1.2 million Euros,which is an outright purchase rather than a yearly lease.
However I don't know what this covers in respect to engine blow ups, accidents etc.

However, iot will certainly be a LOT less expensive than running a pair of leased factory bikes for a season, so Aspar must be rubbing his hands together with glee : )

M=Not exactly sure what xb1125R is saying but MotoGP may have the best riders and the neatest bikes AMA racing is vastly more entertaining. The Daytona 200 was simply a great race IMHO. Two guys battling for the lead for 20 laps while the 3rd and 4th place guys, many many seconds back, relentlessly close the gap and we get a 4 bike race for the last two laps. Hard to top that although the photo finish in Superbike was pretty good; ) I understand the total margin of victory for the top three races on Saturday was .03 seconds!

It should be noted that Stoner's fastest lap was his last one, on a brand new soft tire. Until he ripped out that scorcher, Lorenzo was leading most of the day, including five successive laps under 1:40.

Shaping up to be a good season, even if it will be the usual suspects up front.

Looks like the dingo managed another last minute fast lap to be claimed the fastest in Jerez. I'm not worried, though... One lap doesn't make a race, and he has yet to do a full race simulation; something Lorenzo has done twice with stunning consistency. Stoner won't run away with it again this year.

Rossi also managed to get the GP12 into 6th on the time sheets, neatly between the satellite bikes of Crutchlow and Dovisioso. Ducati is definitely getting there.

Can't wait for the new season to begin, although I have this nagging feeling that it will be just as disapointing as the previous few years have been when we look back in November : (
A lot depends on how just competitive the Ducati can get, how close Honda and Yamaha are over a race distance and just how good the leading CRT bikes turn out to be in a race situation.
I really hope we have a true fight for races and for the title this year, because if we don't then the future for MotoGP looks pretty bleak : (

A prediction for November:
Bautista as top non-factory.
De Puniet as top CRT.
Lorenzo as top factory rider.
Spies wins more than two and is consistently on the podium.
Jaimec learns to love Hondas

A(nother) prediction for November:
Dovizioso as top non-factory (run close by Bradl).
De Puniet as top CRT (no contest).
Stoner as top factory rider (Much as I would love to agree with your initial post)..But Honda still lose Repsol at end of 2012.
Spies fails to win more than two but is consistently on the podium (and unfortunately dropped by Yamaha at end of season).
Jaimec never learns to love Hondas.

Also......Crutchlow sacked from Tech 3 to make way for Spies and Bradley Smith on satellite M1 in 2013.
Dovi to factory Yamaha alongside Lorenzo.
Rossi to Gresini Honda.....
Bradl to Repsol Honda to replace Pedrosa
Crutchlow to LCR Honda
Marquez to bring new MotoGP team with Repsol sponsorhsip.
Hayden announces retirement.

CRT bikes outlawed after agreements between Dorna and MSMA...

Followed shortly by............MotoGP and WSB amalgamated running production engines in protoype chassis.
