The fact is HD has the money to field anything they want but just are not interested in the sport bike market and by association AMA road racing.I Love my 2 harleys and my XB12R which I race here in NC/VIR,but that is the reality Buell puts up a fair amount of cash in my humble opinion in contingency money but that is not a "Factory effort" and I am sorry but until Buell fields a factory team they as a company will not get there due from the rice rocket world.
Does saying that make me anti Buell? Well according to my check book $35,000.00 later no!
i love riding my Buell around VIR but until we get a street legal XBRR we will always be in the rear looking at tail lights of ricers.
I enjoy seeing the Buells on the track I go to every race I can afford to go to just to see them run, I as a customer and loyal fan just wish Buell and more importantly HD would get off the pot and put forth a credible AMA level factory program. I know they are smart enough to do it its back bone or desire they are missing.
I guess am just getting worn down by my fellow non Buell riders, who get to rub my nose in HD/Buell`s position on this subject .

According to Anony that just isn't happening, and you are just being negative to say that it is. Shame on you, Jetbuilder!

Jimi,

I ask that you please give some careful thought concerning the nature of your participation here, whether it is motivated by some strange desire to sow divisive discord or whether it is for the purpose of thoughtful, constructive, and mutually enjoyable dialogue with fellow Buell enthusiasts.

Maybe I'm too sensitive concerning such things, I dunno. I just know that I don't like intentional divisiveness at all. It makes visiting the board a very negative experience for me.

Would you please help me out and try to make my experience here more positive?

You don't have to agree with me or anyone here. Just please express your disagreement thoughtfully and honestly, maybe even constructively.

Would you please do that for me?

If you'll allow me a moment to rant:

I see that we have a lengthy thread in this section regarding a Ducati that will be racing FX. Great! I'd love to see Ducati, Triumph, Buell and BMW all racing FX. That could make it one of the most interesting races of modern times.

But why is this thread - about not only a Buell, but an actual Badwebber racing FX - so much shorter and drawing so much less interest?

For the first time ever, we will be able to root for two Badwebbers - Ant Caligiuri (Mutation Racer) and Walt Sipp - in Formula X-treme. In addition there have been suggestion on these boards that other racers (Hal's PA mentioned that they might try a few FX races but their plans aren't yet set and Jose' mentioned a rider with a Virginia dealer) might try to race at least a few races, and there may be others who don't post here and haven't yet announced their intentions. We also have many, many other badwebbers who will be racing CCS/ASRA.

Sure it's going to be tough. They're going to have work it around their day jobs and scrape for funding, but at least they're going to try. Isn't that what the XBRR is all about? Isn't that what Buell is all about? Isn't that what Badweb is all about? (Okay, now I'm going for the sappy one) Isn't that what America is all about?

This should be the most exciting year ever for Buell and Badweb. I'm going to predict right now that, the way things are going, we will see more Buells racing than ever before. We will see more Buells winning and on podiums than ever before and many of those top riders will be aboard XBRRs.

Yet many around here seem to think the XBRR (which wasn't even available until the end of last racing season) is a failure because . . . well I'm not sure exactly why. It seems to have something to do with the pre-production models that didn't finish the Daytona 200 last year and Harley's tight purse.

Why should we, on here, be more concerned with what Harley does with its checkbook than what actual racers are doing with fuel and oil and rubber?

I was watching Planet of the Apes over the weekend, and one line comes to mind: "It's a madhouse . . . a MADHOUSE."

/end rant

Go Walt! I'm going to have the privilege and pleasure of meeting Walt next weekend. He's coming down with a friend to get some track time and do some racing at Oak Hill Raceway. He won't be able to bring the Bison Buell, but it'll still be great to see him race and get to know him in person.

I want some of what you guys have been smoking. Maybe you all missed the run-up last year to the Daytona 200, or just forgot...selective memory seems to be a bit of an issue around here. Never-the-less, it is all there in the archives.

I will be at Daytona rooting for Walt and Ant to qualify, no doubt about it...unlike many of the Buell/HD aristocracy that was there last year, because I am not a fair weather race fan. But let's keep it real here...them's some mighty powerful statements. Care to explain the reasons why this grandiloquent declaration is appropriate?

If you will take the time to look at the Ducati thread you will see that it morphed into a Buell XBRR thread long ago, which at least partially explains the length.
Also, please note that there will be a Ducati factory team in the Daytona 200 and the rest of the FX season.

I hope this has help clear up your confusion.

Are you sure? Hmmm. I didn't see the little wink guy, so I guess you must be. Well then, I must be confused, as it seems like you enjoy having the opportunity to spar with a member from the 'alternate universe'. Someone has to present the other side's perspective, don't they. Besides, you go through most of these other guys (the one's you don't have eating out of your hand, that is) like a hot knife in butter. Don'cha need another perspective to argue against?

Shucks dude, you seek out my posts (on here and elsewhere) like a Patriot searching for a Scud missle...all that red, white and neo-con blue flame just a blazing. It is beautiful really, and kind of sentimental...and always entertaining.

You have to admit that I am an equal opportunity cynic (I follow my convictions regardless of who else [even YOU] may or may not agree), with a disdain for personal attacks. Certainly, that must be worth something...like either 5 stars or 1. Let's face it, I never get 2,3,or 4 stars. They either love me or hate me, and I'm OK with that. At least I may have made them think.

From observing your post over the last several years, it appears that your participation in contentious threads (especially the political ones that we don't talk about much on here anymore...for obvious reasons) is much higher than the technical, organizational, etc., topics. I took that as an indicator that you enjoyed this stuff...you sure write long arguments for someone who finds contentiousness distasteful. I guess I was wrong. But you don't get many 3 stars either. However, if the vast numbers of posts on these threads is an indicator, it looks like many of our brethren find them quite entertaining also.

From now on I will keep my disputatious thoughts to myself unless I see something that I disagree with...then I cannot guarantee anything except that I will post only within the rules of the Forum (which do not exclude tastefully applied sarcasm when appropriate). And then as I always have in the past, I will never make an unprovoked personal attack (complete with name calling, like a lot of folks do), never tell anyone they are stupid, blind, etc. (like a lot of folks do).

I reserve the right to respectfully disagree with anyone though (within compliance of the rules), as I stipulate others rights to disagree with me. Isn't that what makes it fun?

As the original poster of this topic I have to ask the question of how this and some other threads can deteriorate to the pissing match that it now is. I posted a simple fact because I thought the majority on this board might be interested. I added a comment that was intended to try to stop what has happened.I did not and do not need the "glory" of this board. It is not a "token effort" from my point of view either in time, effort or money. We are not racing "for a finish". We are going to do the best we possibly can as stated by Walt. What might that be? Time will tell. Again I wonder why I bother to post. I guess maybe I am thin skinned.
The answer to my question has just come to me. What is the common denominator to these threads becoming pissing matches. My opinion is that the thing common to this problem is Rocket. I will no doubt become another of his targets since I am a "newbie" of only One year + with 35 posts against his Four years + and 4628 posts. Give or take 1157 a year or 3+ a day. Does this tell you anything?
I am sorry to rise to his bait but he won and I could no longer not respond.
regards ref

Bison, if any of my posts have offended you, I apologize. I am happy and excited that you and your team have decided to contest the 200. I just get so tired of the negativity, criticism and insults that I react. You have my full support, for what that's worth.
Having raced years ago, though not anywhere near your level, I understand a little of how much effort and money goes into entering the 200.
There are many here who are looking at your efforts positively and are behind you 100%.
Please keep us updated.
I will be glad when this winter weather breaks and I can ride again.

Actually Bison, it's more like 8 years, since I was here long before the BadWeB collapse were previous posts were lost in cyberspace.

As for your analytical observations regarding pissing matches, I see the first post I made in this thread was........

Out of curiosity, and not to start a war, given last years factory helped efforts and hoping you finish, what placing would you consider good if you make it to the finish, given you call this a 'privateer' effort?

How that is starting a pissing match, when very f*cking clearly I expressed my desire not to star one, you know - like I ASKED A VERY SERIOUS QUESTION, I'd have to conclude this is very much an anti-Rocket campaign that appears to be snowballing. Your observations are noted, by the management, but before you assassinate me I'll say this much.

Daytona, even though a little watered down compared to the 'old days' is still a very serious race. Any XBRR, especially a privateer effort, is going to be up against it even if it were running on its own. Any bike would be, given the reliability necessary. I was curious to see if, given you were honest enough to speak of your race campaign, that you expected a good finish or whether you were, how can I say this without causing offense, taking advantage of the fact you will be the only XBRR in the race, therefore that in itself allows a certain credibility. Or at least around here it does.

Frankly, I couldn't give a shit about any XBRR racing at Daytona if before it leaves the start line it's obvious it has no chance of winning. I'd feel the same way about Ducati if that were the case, so don't feel offended. I was lead to believe by the Buell hierarchy contributing to the BadWeB the XBRR was a possible winner out of the box. I thought by asking about your pre race projection you might be open enough to give your honest answer. Instead you choose to become humble amongst the Buell cognoscenti, and shoot me down in flames for apparently turning this thread into a pissing match. But it's ok. I understand a lot of people here have a clouded view when I post.

Bison, please don't get discouraged. I'm sure that most of the people on this board STRONGLY support your effort and want to hear more.

Unfortunately (and I think you can see this if you read through the posts and see who is posting what) there is a small minority of posters who take over with inane bloviation about personal crusades and irrational obsessions and fixation on past mis-steps by Buell and Harley.

The intentions of those people are clear. They want attention and are jeolous of the accomplishments of people like you. They want to take over the threads and make it about them rather than the original subject, and they often succeed.

Unfortunately, most people don't have the discipline to ignore idiotic posts, so it becomes a case of: "Oh yeah?" "Uh huh" "You're an ass" "no you are" and the attention whores are rolling in the s*** they love so much.

It's much easier to get attention by posting crap on the internet than it is to actually go out and do something like you're doing.

Please try to keep perspective and know that you have a huge amount of support here (even though it may seem masked at times).

For the record, I do give a s**t about any XBRR racing at Daytona...and I will be there personally to support whatever teams show up and participate, but especially Bison Racing and Walt. I just didn't want there to be any question of where my allegiances lie, since there was so much bantering about the "a small minority of posters" who have a "fixation on past mis-steps by Buell and Harley." Since I have been accused of being in that group (those who dares to question how HD has crapped on Buell's XBRR's FX racing), I thought that a clarification was necessary.

There are those who talk about STRONGLY supporting Buell XBRR teams competing in FX racing at Daytona this year, and then there are those who will make the commitment in time, money and resources to make it happen. Talk's cheap...show up or shut up...and I mean that in only the nicest and respectful way.

I must be totally out to lunch because in hindsight I am glad Buell didn't go out last year and pound the competition. Had they done that the rules would have changed before you could cool an engine down. And it wouldn't have been in the favour of the Buells.

This way the rules stay the same and I get to watch something other than the Japanese race for a change. We get to see how Buell overcomes the problems they had last year. We get the benifit of the improvements on our bikes and everyone is happy? No. Lets face it folks it's good for the sport of motorcycle racing plain and simple. I can hardly wait to see the races this year. Go Buell Go.

But, here goes…

I’m greatly pleased by the news that Bison Racing will be campaigning their RR in the FX series. To that end, I wish y’all great success, no matter how you define it. And I especially wish good fortune to you, Walt, for it’s your danglies that will be out there in the fray. Have a safe season.

And Court: Thanks for posting that quote from Teddy Roosevelt. I won’t bother with why I appreciate its poignancy. But, I just saved it for future reference.
