Without wishing to denigrate Walt's abilities (which I am sure outweigh my own when it comes to racing!), this is a different story to last year and I think expectation will of course be lower.

Last year we had all the pre-event launch hype and the sight of a full squad of factory/dealer people in the garages at Daytona. Then there was McWilliams of course...

This year Walt will be doing what the XBRR was apparently built for, running as a true privateer against the works teams. That is why I am excited about it again, because the weight of high expectations will not be there and any result that Walt gets will be great. Plus we all support and cheer the underdog of course : ) If he finishes 30th but beats a few 'names' in the process then great. If he finishes last but still finishes then that is good too : )

I am sure that Walt will do a lot better than that though, and am looking forward to seeing the results.

Jimi-I just went down to the local Buell shop yesterday. They have one sitting on the sales floor right up front. I asked about it, was yabbering something about hoping a collector picks it up. I didn't know that there was a huge market for unraced race bikes...
Seems like some racer would want it as there are 3 tracks within four hours...

Looked damn cool in its full carbon trim though and was very nice to see about 7 07 buells there....

it was all of that false exuberance that got us into trouble last year

I would like see a Buell still running when the checkered flag is waved. Does that make me as unrealistically exuberant?

Good Luck Walt...I'll be rooting for you!

Go Walt!!!

And for anyone who doesn't think just finishing will be significant, consider these questions for a moment (I'm not an expert on racing history, but I've noted the answers I think are correct. If anyone can correct me, please do):

When's the last time a Buell finished the Daytona 200? (I don't believe any ever have)

When's the last time an American motorcycle finished the Daytona 200?
(I'm guessing this was the VR1000 in the late '90s, so even that is becoming somewhat distant history)

When's the last time a production based American motorcycle finished the Daytona 200?
(This has to be going on 40 years)

Finishing in the top 15 would be great, but even just finishing will be historic.

I might as well fly my S1W over and enter it in the 200 if all that matters is finishing. Is the 107% rule applicable?

I'm just glad my question got the answer I was looking for and the effort is much more serious than racing for a finish. I'm holding out for a win.

"I might as well fly my S1W over and enter it in the 200 if all that matters is finishing."

If you do, you too will have a bunch of Buell racing fans cheering you on. Yes, you'll have to qualify. Not sure if 107% is the correct rule for AMA FX. It may be 110%.

Who said that "all that matters is finishing"? I haven't seen anyone offer that opinion.

Just qualifying for the race would be a major accomplishment for a Daytona rookie and privateer.

Walt, this is way cool. Good Luck. I will be rooting for you to do well knowing that hill you are trying to climb is very steep. 200 miles is a very long race.

In this post I am refering to BOTH the bike team AND the rider.

The fact that there is a Buell entering a significant and popular race like the Daytona is VERY IMPORTANT.

It is important to the Buell company AND to the Buell riders around the world. It makes me very proud to own a XB12R.

What will actually happen during the race, noone really knows. Being an 'underdog' is VERY GOOD. Firstly you should aim to enjoy yourself at the race. Just do that, and expect no more. You should not listen to what anyone else says or think, including Buell fans.

For me, just a Buell entering the race, and having a go, is all what it takes to make me happy. Sport (motorsports in our case) is about competing, doing your best.

I am Greek, remember the Olympic games 3000 years ago? All the athletes entering the games were heroes, and were treated like that. It did not matter who won that much, all the athletes made history and their names can still be found written in ancient plates.

No matter what happens, the Bison and Walt names will stay in history. Well done, I am proud of both of you, Buell, and my XB12R which is similar to the bike entering the race.

And one more thing.....

Sometimes in sports miracles happen, when people least expect it.

Remember the 2004 European football Cup? Greece was the least favourite and no-one believed that they had a chance of winning a single game. And then a miracle happened and we actually won the Cup, making the biggest surprise in the sport history!!!

Remember the World basketball Cup this August-Septemper? Everybody said that the USA team was unbeatable. Then they lost to Greece at the semi-final, ending up third.

So.......do your best, have fan, and.........a miracle might happen !!!!!!!

IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING !!!!!

GO!!!!!!!

I am willing to paypal money to either BISON or WALT. Just give me a e-mail address, and I do it now !!!! This way, you will make me feel even better, by contributing a tiny-little bit.

Actually my friend told me from day one they'd win. He also told me Greece would win the Eurovision Song Contest, and they did.

Of course, he's a Greek

Can I just say with regard to the 200 and Buells on the grid, if I get the S1W through US customs, bearing in mind it's an offensive weapon so I doubt it, GO ROCKET!!!!

Thank you again to all our well wishers for the Daytona 200.

I also thank all of the BadWeb community for wanting to support us financially. I am proud to say that I'm part of such a passionate group. However, I couldn't with clear conscience accept the money. The BadWeb fund was originally established as a contingency fund for all Buell racers to have access to. There are many hard working, dedicated Buell racers out there that deserve a "piece of the pie."

I do have a suggestions though. For all those willing to donate, you can help another way. Show up at Daytona, buy a pass and hang out in the pits or on bleachers at the exit of the International Horseshoe and scream at the top of your lungs! I would be honored to have the largest cheering section there.

Walt, once again I wish you all the best to you and the bike.

Now, since it is very difficult for me to fly from Greece to Daytona, and you do not want to accept donations from any of us, consider this.

All the donations are made to me, and then I fly to Daytona and give you the best support and scream you have ever seen !!!!

Honestly, I will donate to you (paypal) no problem, because I simply want to and I believe in Buell as a company. You can send me a paypal account privately. Just when everything is over, post me a tape recording of the race + paddock staff.

Once again.... IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING

Walt,

There aren't that many hard working, dedicated Buell racers in FX this year...in fact, I think you are the only one who will try and make multiple meets on the AMA circuit. So why not take the money...they are giving it to you because you are the one taking on the high dollar guys. There is no shame in that, as you deserve it.

If it was like last year at Daytona, one had to be an official member of a race team and then pay $50+ for a pit pass. So there will not be too many who make it in the pits, but we will be in the infield stands...come out there on our pit bike and visit us.

Will you be sorting the XBRR out in CCS/ASRA the weekend before?

Infield pass won't get you in the garages. But with the new garages, windows and a viewing deck above the garages allows you to see the area well. You can sit in all the bleachers in the infield, first come basis. And some of the Buell teams/riders pit along the fence you can walk by. Just check it all out, and ask anyone wearing a Buell shirt, they will let you know.
Bring some banners, the riders will see ya!

I see Dean Adams took the opportunity of an article on Buell's band to continue his anti-Buell tirade..

Yes, he couldn't resist a swipe. Makes him look pretty cheap. He runs a great site but sure seems to be anti-Buell. Wonder what he thinks they ever did to him? Or is he just POed at H-D in general? Maybe the VR team was rude to him?

The small mind is easily entertained.

As far as possible without surrender

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

I am pleased, once again, to see the dull and ignorant so capably represented.

Dean Adams says:

The reality is that the Buell XBRR was in not really "capable of competing at the very highest levels of American racing" in '06.

Isn't that the same conclusion that HD came to when they pulled the plug on Buell's factory XBRR FX Daytona 200 effort for this year? Shucks, I would say that Erik would agree with that statement 100%. Why is that anti-Buell if HD (and Erik) says the same thing? I must be confused...}
