I just got talked into going to test and tune @ local 1/8 mile strip.

I have never drag raced anything, I want to go and have fun, not to be the fastest or race anyone. I just want to do a few good passes.

Any advice, suggestions?

How to launch of the line?
Tire Pressure?
How not to screw-up my clutch/bike?
Suspension?
Warm-up?
Burn-outs? Do really need to?
Throttle control?
Seating position?

My stats
XB9R factory race kit de-snorkled.
GP/race shift (1up 4down)
Pilot powers.
With full gear I weigh in @ 295lbs.

I leave for the strip in about 3 hours.

Please Advise.
Thanx guys.

best thing i'm goint to say since you really dont have time to strap the front down, or the back, is to make sure you are leaned as far forward as you can get when you leave the line hard. just take it easy. to many people try to launch way to hard and loop there bikes. also sit as close to the tank as you can.

you really shouldnt need to warm up the tire to much as the track will more than likely be very sticky anyway, and your bike would rather hook and flip over than spin most of the time.

just get a feel for how hard you can launch. take it EASY.

I second that, and the last part is sage advice.

It's easy to hook up and flip or go out sideways then hook up and highside.

Avoid the 'bleach box' cars do burnouts in and the oil in the middle of the lane. As you approach the starting lights, one light illuminates on the Christmas tree. You have to edge up and until the second light comes on. When the other guy is lined up, the yellow Christmas tree lights come down. You generally leave on the last yellow. The timer doesen't start until you break the starting beam, so a guy who cuts a better light can beat a quy who runs a quicker time (up to a point).

I'd observe as much as possible and just take it easy the first few times. Use the first runs as 'shakedown runs' to tune your launch. The start is all in the clutch hand. A stock clutch can take a lot of abuse... take advantage of that while you find your way.

At the end of the track, you have a runoff area. At the speeds you'll reach, there should be more than enough runoff, but be wary of the conditions. There is usually a lot of dirt, gravel, and sometimes oil in the run-off area... be careful. Be wary of the other competitor because you both have to use the same turn-off to the return road. Don't speed or wheelie on the way back. Get your ET and reaction time so you can use it to prepare for the next run.

Oh, and have fun. You're racing!

thanx guys I had a blast!!!

I read all posts @ track. Thanx to my Blackberry or 2nite it was my badberry.

I took it easy.

I stayed around 8.4 to 8.6 ET around 87mph.

My launches were not that great, but I did not want to get very aggressive on my first trip to the strip.

whoa...forgot it was an 1/8 mile strip. I was about to say that's wicket fast for an almost stock bike. and then I was trying to figure out how you made a 1/4 mile in 8.6 at 87mph. That was trippy.
