With that terrible news in mind, Erik has renamed the next model the 1190AXED. Yes I know, that was in very poor taste.

What a tragedy :-(

Erik is like a cat though, and I don't think he's used all 9 lives yet.

I was very tempted by the 1190SX and super-excited about the AX. Now my two Ulys will be even more precious.

Don't worry, I read on here that they are required by law to provide parts for 7 years.

Receivership is an alternative to bankruptcy that allows for protection while help is obtained to structure the debts to be repaid. Erik isn't planning to kill the brand just yet it seems. This looks more like stop gap to allow him to keep his company rather than sell his majority shares during a game of hardball...

Would things have gone better if the AX came out sooner, since the adventure mc market is growing and sport bikes is shrinking? And the racing program must have been a huge expense, even BMW pulled out of racing because of the cost. I
I hope he can bounce back.

Probably would have gone better if the AX would of been made right off the bat and not the sport bike nonsense. I imagine if Buell could have made his sport bike and sold it for 10 grand then they would have flown off the shelves. 18,000 dollar sport bikes are meant for who? Older folks have all the money and no use for $18K sport bikes. Younger folks want the sport bikes but not $18K sport bikes. They buy the sub $10K bikes. Insurance costs on a Buell sport bike is most likely a non-starter for 99% of the sport bike buying public. Erik lives in a dreamland where everyone has more money than they know what to do with and loves sport bikes. Dreamland is for Peter Pan and Peter Jennings's daughter. Comfortable beautiful bikes sell better than sport bikes and that is a reason Harley can sell a zillion $18,000+ bikes year after year. An AX would have been more comfortable.

Young people are still buying high dollar sport bikes. My son just bought a new 2014 RC8. It was more than what you can pick up a new 2014 RX for right now. I think he might have bought an RX if one had been as easily available here in ND.

It's a really nice machine.

He said the engine stalls the starter just like the Buells do. Have to let off and hit it again. I thought that was cool.

The horrible thing about this situation is, if there is a firesale on inventory, we will all find out what the "average" bike owner, not the "boutique bike owner" is willing to pay for an EBR.

With the possibility of not ever getting support, and high potential of a parts shortage, prices around $7500 to $10K were posted in the other thread on here. That is what some would be willing to pay. And there is no word of a firesale, it was all speculation.

That sounds about right for a gamble. $.50 on the dollar. That's not a slam on the quality, engineering or workmanship, it's reality on the disposable income of a bike buyer.

Well EG I don't always agree with you but that's ok. I must say though, I agree with everything you just said. A modern Ulysses and a comfortable Sport Tour would have made more sense to me also. I love the engineering portrayed in the RX/SX, it just doesn't fit the bike I want. I sat on many a tube framer in the day, even rode an RR1000 with the iron 4 speed but none of them fit me like a Ulysses.

Gotta agree with you there, Greg.
My Uly is my daily rider, for storage space and comfort it's unbeatable.
Very elated with my new 2012 RS, but she's no daily rider.

God, that carbon is beautiful.

When Buell had their test ride promotion where you got a free Gorilla helmet lock for test riding a new Buell, I took my local dealer up on that offer and took a test ride on a 1125CR. It was a 8 mile test ride in which I had to pull off the road and stop to rest my right leg because of a leg cramp. Without a doubt the most uncomfortable motorcycle I ever rode before! If they would have asked me to test ride it again, I would have declined! I don't care for those bent over cramped up style of motorcycle riding! My Ulysses is almost perfect but if the handlebars were about 2 inches higher it would feel even better!

With no AX models coming, I may look at a Triumph or even a Harley if my Uly dies.

Buy 2" risers from American Sport Bike, along with longer cables (or re-route yours).

I am 6'4", 34" inseam, have an 06 Uly with tall seat and 09 CR with Pegasus seat and Uly pegs, still have clubmans on it.

I can ride the CR at least as far as the Uly - and I'm talking 800-1000 mile days.

Ratbuell is a contortionist. I can ride my 06'
Uly for 800 mile days but by the second day my arse begins to smolder and by the third day it is spontaneous combustion for the rest of the trip. I don't think it is so much the ULY, it is just me. My body just doesn't like to sit for so many hours on end. And yet I go on these long motorcycle vacations each summer.

I can ride a CR for awhile, as long as I don't have to go completely around a city block!

5 miles or five minutes, whichever comes first! lol

I see that the EBR Store is shut down now. The home page comes up, but beyond that there is nothing.

Bummer.
