Sorry for the "shitposting", but I went from not even considering buells to falling in love with a xb12x in 6 hours. I am picking one up Thursday. It is like a 2 hour ride away. I have read all of the beginner " sticky" kinda threads. I have never seen a forum like this one and I have been drinking. Yeah!

I have been hunting good YouTube videos trying to occupy myself until I can pick my new bike up, and indeed sit on it for the first time.)

Anyone have any great videos of the 06/07 xb12x in some twisties action? Youtube is failing me!

<3 the forum, and hope to be a contributing member! Good day sirs!

Awesome video! Choooo chooo! Dig the rain riding too. I have a 2011 road glide that gets babied like crazy. I keep it in another town so it can be in a garage. I am getting this to have a wet and dirty daily ride. =)

@ratbuell

SICK! We have a call in Gattlinburg, but I haven't made it over there yet. I can't wait for the spring. I rode out to Colorado this summer and had a great time in some canyons. Well, as much fun as can be had on an 800 gramps RG. Haha. Nice angle!

Chisleu,
I see from your profile that you bought the best model year, the 2006.

I can't wait to go check it out tomorrow. Provided it isn't damaged in some way, I'm going to pick it up.

First things first, I gotta check the headlight assembly and see if I can fit LED coolers in there so I can get some serious light out of the front. I have read about the mod for both headlights. I plan to add some additional LED lights as well. I'm serious about not hitting deer down here in SC.

That Uly looks taller than normal... did you do something to it besides the tires?

It looks tall alright. Maybe because the side stand is uphill of the wheels?

Yeah I bought it. It is in really good condition. 27k miles. It did come with all the Buell brand luggage. I cleaned it up today and it looks really nice. I have my kid this weekend, so I can't really ride it. SAD.

I checked everything I could and it seems to be well serviced. It needs new front brake pads though. I am going to try to check the primary chain tomorrow.

I'm not sure what it is, but sometimes when I'm accelerating hard, I can hear a chirping sound. The damned exhaust was modified I think. It is louder than I would hope. The exhaust has some rust on it. I think I'm going to pull it off and try to clean the rust and paint it this winter. The headers are wrapped in heat wrap. It isn't siliconed, so I guess I might need to pull the headers off and ceramic coat them as well.

I ordered 2" Rox risers. I didn't see the Buell XB specific ones anywhere so I hope the ones I have coming are OK. I also ordered 2" drop pegs because my legs are really cramped on the bike.

I love the bike. It is very fun to ride. I really wish I had gotten an 08 thought. The steering is very restricted compared to my old MZ Baghira. It doesn't matter much. This isn't really as much of a curb-hopping hooligan machine as that was.

You will do fine with the steering - LEAN it, don't steer it. Quick u-turns are as easy as a little practice : )

What year did you get? My '06...best upgrade I did was '07 fork springs.

I have an HID low beam, high-beam mod, and just installed a 2400 lumen LED highbeam with some PIAA aux lights that come on with the high beam. Short ride tonight (I also just rebuilt the front end, don't like shakedown runs like that after dark "just in case") and I LOVE the lights. I have the same LED highbeam bulb in my 1125CR. Nowhere near as bright as the HID, but definitely as good as the old incandescent...at only 20W of power consumption!

Get an 06 "tall" seat. I'm 6'4", 34" inseam, metal rods and plates all over...and with that seat and stock pegs, I can ride 1000+ miles a day, no problem.

Chirping sounds like broken metal or a loose fastener. Unwrap that header ASAP and check for cracks.

Be careful with cable and hose routing on the 2" risers...make sure nothing binds lock-to-lock. Seriously.

Brake pads....American Sport Bike. Al is a wealth of knowledge (and a great guy to boot!).

I don't have any pics today. I'm going to take some tomorrow and I'll post them up.

Leaning is great and all, but at slow speeds, that steering angle hurts. I'll search about the 07 springs. I've not read anything about that.

I don't want the raised seat because it is hard for me to hop on the bike already. just need another inch or so of legroom and the raised bars. If I raise the seat, I hurt the riser bars.

I'll be very careful installing the riser. Thanks for the warning.

I have a 32" inseam and a lot of torso! I'll get the wrap off tomorrow and try to hunt that noise. I hope it isn't in the engine.

Think "BMX"- rise off the seat a bit, keep your body over your feet, lean the bike under you. It loves it.

07 springs are progressive rate, VERY good at reducing brake dive. A very nice evolution of the product.

"...accelerating hard, ...chirping sound."
Have you put fresh premium fuel in it? If you just got the bike the previous owner might have had regular fuel in it, and you could be hearing detonation.

You can add the 08 triple trees if you want. I did and love it. Since I came from a dirt bike background I really hated the limited steering too. It's just time consuming to do it but it's not a hard job. I did the trees and 07 springs at the same time. Wrote this up if you're interested:

It has had two tanks of premium. I also noticed the bike acts weird when cruising at high speed or trying to engine brake just slightly. It acts like it is starved for fuel. I wonder if it needs a fuel filter or something.

In RE the quick turn method, when my fullface helmet arrives, I will try that. Haha.

Does it only need the two metal plates to change the steering? Awesome. I prefer the crazy soft springs, but I might really like the 08 trpple trees!

The 08 trees move the forks further out so it allows for more turning before it hits the frame. The 08 fork bottoms moved the axle back to maintain the original dimensions however, many of us have kept the 06/07 forks and have not noticed any difference in handling. We just increased the wheelbase a little.

Right on! I can't handle that altitude. I pass out just walking. I would be scared to have a bike up there. I rode from SC to CO this summer and 8200 feet was hard enough. We went up to 12k in a car and I was very weak. Too bad they don't have Coca tea up here in NA. : (

I can't wait to get the riser on the bike this week. I think it is going to make a big difference in comfort for me. If I figure out how to maneuver the way you spoke of, I won't need a tripple tree. I've turned like that on my old MZ Baghira, but only at faster-than-parking lot speeds. I hope I can pull it off. single-lane u turns are impossible right now. A couple of times I've hit the steering max and had to put my foot down because I was expecting it to turn tighter.

What a great bike. What a great community. I'm stoked.

Which LED headlight kit are you guys using? I installed two new H7's and one of them burned out the next day. I'm going to get a cheap replacement for now, but I'm thinking I should get LEDs just to prevent this. I hope it is physical failure and not electrical.

I'm going to do the both headlights highbeam mod and I can add some additional LED housings as well.
