I noticed what looks to be some kind of leak, made more apparent as the bike is covered in dirt.

Any ideas?

Looks pretty minor, like it happened over several thousand miles. Clean it up and monitor/no worries. Look for leakage from the rear rocker cover (top of cylinder), you might not notice without looking with a flashlight, and can take out your cooling fan if left too long. (this would be a separate issue)

If the jug blasts through the airbox and bounces off your helmet, then you can worry.

Sorry, the bike and motor are trashed. You'll have to get rid of it. Send it to me, I'll make sure it doesn't land in a landfill. Really, this is the best option.

Or, you could clean it up, ride the hell out of it and not worry...

Minor base weep.
Clean and ride.

I hate seeing the horror of a base gasket leak -
$5 in parts, $500 in labor and other parts...

Correction.
$5 parts, a few hours of quality time with your steed and probably too many beers!

I don't know what these guys are talking about. ... You should look at unloading that bike before it gets worse.

But as a matter of fact, I'm looking for a complete tear doe and rebuild project-bike. PM me and I'll take it off your hands so you can get something more reliable

I worried about the base gasket leaks as well, but on my third Buell I *finally* had to pull off a jug to fix something (head mount sheared off by careless Toyota driver).

I was braced for the good fight tearing down and replacing... and it turned out remarkably easy. Much better than fussy OHC engines... not quite as easy as my 2 strokes, but frankly not that much worse.

The hardest part was making sense of the "everything including the kitchen sink" stupid gasket kit that Harley forces on us... bad enough that they can't package it better, even worse that they can't be bothered to put any instructions with it when they *know* that the service manual they sold you for the bike will have the wrong pictures in it relative to the kit they just sold you. Sigh.

Anyway, other than that, it was a pretty easy job, it just took some time.

(Oh, and just to be clear, that leak is not even in the same galaxy as a leak that would justify taking anything apart... I'd ride it for another 30,000 miles and check it a second time to make sure it's not worse).
