as far as the 08' models are concerned, and with the 10,000 miles service down what are things that I should be looking out for as defects are concerned? faulty wiring, charging system kinda of wanted to know this kinda stuff ahead of time. thanks

ECM rubbing the seat is more likely on 08+ models due to the larger ECM, and then the rear wheel bearings. The 08+ bikes don't really suffer from any common electrical issues like the older bikes.

Thanks Froggy. I really dont't want to get rid of the 1125r, but I am trying to keep momma happy and she flat out refuses to go for a ride on the 1125r. It's a "crotch rocket" in her words. The Ulysses should be better up for 2up right?

Funny, I added a XT to my fleet to make things more comfortable for my girlfriend. She prefers the CR to the Uselessys.

In theory the Ulysses is better for two up, as it has a larger and more accommodating passenger seat, bigger footpegs, backrest, more luggage options, and so on. My girlfriend finds my CR with the Touring passenger seat to be more comfortable, it is easier to climb on, and the vibrations don't bother her.

On the Ulysses it is a chore to mount up both of us, I have to run even on the highway in lower gears so that the vibration harmonics don't bother her (the 4500RPM buzz feels better than the jackhammer of 3k and lower). Also regarding the seats, her ass hurts in less than an hour with the stock 07+ seat and the accessory low seat, and a Corbin, while the touring seat on my CR has seen no limitation yet.

Another thing that was noticeable is the lack of power, my 1125CR accelerates about the same with her and luggage on the back (if I keep the front wheel down), while the Uly feels like it dropped a cylinder.


The 1125 and Ulysses are two totally different bikes, I can't say if the switch is right for you, if possible I would find someone in your area that wouldn't mind letting you get some seat time to make up your mind. If you ever come out to NY, you are more than welcome to try all of mine.

My Girlfriend remarked on Sunday just how much more she enjoys the vibrations on my X1 than my CR .........said it had made her smile the whole of the journey lol ....... If Ann Summers sold motorcycles it would def be Buell :-)

I have been told by an unnamed female that a Uly has a much better feel than any wash machine on spin cycle there is.

The only bike she rode of mine was the sportster we had. I just wish I could mount the Ulysses touring stuff like a few here have done and I could just stay with what I have. Really appreciate all the suggestions. I did like my first
l xb12s but once again to small of seat for her. LOL..

Froggy sounds just like a salesman I ran into at a HD store when I was looking at Uly's. "you don't want that thing, come over here and look at 'real' motorcycle" he said as he was indicating a Road King to me. When I bought a Uly I talked to the owner of the store about what he did, he actually got relieved of his duties.

Froggy weighs in a 62 pounds, so with a 125 pound girlfriend and all of their gear, fuel, and luggage, they weigh nearly what I do. No wonder his 1125 is not affected by his passenger load!

We load my Uly down to the sum of somewhere North of 500 lbs with gear and luggage and such. It handles it very well, with plenty of room for both of us.

We do mount up in a specific way. On level hard ground with the side stand down, she gets on first, then slides back as I slide my right leg in front of her.

My'06 Uly rides quite smooth. Froggy might need a front isolator /engine mount, and or lubing some pivot mounts. I have to admit the 1125 motor does run really smooth though, where the 1203 needs big mounts to smooth it out.

Because of his amphibious nature, during the cold months Froggy is always a bit befuddled with his comments concerning Buell Uly bikes. Take his knowledge of what Uly years to avoid with a grain of salt. I've had no problems worth discussing with my Oct. 05' build ULY. The supposed upgrades to the ULY were only done to satisfy the upgrade-itus affliction of the general public. Other than the 2006 year model, I'd only ever be interested in the 2010 hen's teeth model.

I wish I was getting commission a few years ago when they were still being built, I sold more than a few Buells just BSing with other riders/potential customers. I steered them as I saw fit, some to Ulys, some to Lightnings, some to 1125s, even a Blast to a newer rider. I wasn't making anything so I had nothing to gain regardless of what they did. The best part was I could openly and honestly talk about the service department and not sound like some kind of shill.

I was just helping them get onto the right bike so they don't have buyers remorse, and sometimes the right bike is the one they already have.

after a few yrs of owning my 06 Uly, I can tell you that a lot of passengers feel uneasy perched up on the back of my bike. I use the low seat, which puts them even higher up over me. Then the driver ergonomics causes you to lean forward which makes it difficult for the rider to grab a hold of you good. I once sat up in that seat myself with the bike sitting in the garage. You are hanging way out there as a passenger. I wouldn't like it either. maybe with the normal seat a passenger would feel more safe cause they can get close to the driver. Who knows. I don't like giving rides anyways, so it works for me.

The guy whom I have been dealing with over the phone there owns an 1125cr and an M2. He told me that the owner has a few also. That in itself makes me feel better knowing they like Buells. Aaron is the salesmen there that I spoke with.

Err, I would not say that was quite the case Froggy? My 10 bike still had the front end loom "wire splice" issues. This part of the loom is badly designed and never should have been done that way. A problem in the loom is a major issue and while they fixed most things its a shame they did not pick up on this one.

Well looks like I wont be getting the bike after all. They want $3500. down plus my 1125r. I wont just give my bike away. Guess I will just have to convert my tail section to the Ulysses. Time to start searching.
