but haven't found any definite information. I'm about 6'1" and looking for something that will send the air over my big head. I've been to the ZG site, the biggest screen there looks the same size as my XTs standard screen, as does the one at American Sport Bike. The Palmer Products site has a really cool adjustable adapter, and some screens that look like they might be taller than the Buell stock tall screen I have. Not sure if I'd need both the adapter and a new screen or not. And if I got a new one, would I get the medium or large?

Anyone tried any of the Palmer ones? Any others?

Thanks guys,

Josh

I use the Madstad adjustable bracket, similar to the Palmer but it comes with an aluminum replacement flyscreen and is very sturdy. They also sell an 18" windscreen that is taller and wider than the Buell touring screen. Bracket flyscreen and 18" screen are not cheap ($300).

Works well for colder weather or if you like less wind. I swap between the Buell shorty, touring and the Madstad touring depending upon rides and weather.

Yeah, I'm looking too. I had a Parabellum on my '92 GS I had and it was excellent. I'm leaning that way but some adjustability would be nice too. I need something that can handle high speed as I do get speedy sometimes. The forums searches are helpful but raise as many questions as answers for me.

Staves, thanks for the reply. I would like to keep my stock flyscreen if possible, otherwise the madstad would be a slam dunk. If the palmer works well however I'm planning on buying it, was just hoping for some feedback on it before I made the purchase.

In other news I'm going to harass Odie for a heat blanket for the right side of my new XT, as those seem to have good reviews and it's only 10 bucks! :P

I've got the tool-less version of the Palmer. It cuts down buffeting quite a bit even with the stock (XT Buell Tall)windshield. I still get some buffeting because the screen is too narrow to block the turbulence from the air flowing around the sides of the screen. Two major pluses are being able to clean the flyscreen and windshield without removing the windshield and watching the bugs die on the windshield instead of on my helmet shield.

Rwven, if you don't mind how tall are you? : )

Thanks for the info, I emailed them. They seem like nice folks from the website.

I bought the ZG tall sports touring screen for my 07 that had the small screen on it. I am 6'1 and find the screen works really well with the wind now hitting me in the chest...no helmet buffeting but a little more wind noise..cured by plugs or maybe a new helmet...love the ZG screen

Well my Palmer bracket and large Palmer windscreen are in the mail coming from the UK. I asked them a few questions via email and the timely and thoughtful responses I got convinced me to try the product. I also got the stabilizer bracket and the "eyebrow" vinyls that cover the bracket area at the bottom of the windscreen. It was $280.00 including shipping, which I think is pretty good. I'll report back once I get everything installed and let you guys know how it goes. I plan on switching between screens depending on weather, with the large coming out for cold and rain.

If I was going to switch shields, and had the coin, I'd buy two sets of brackets so you could leave one attached to each shield. Hmmm, I wonder if Iain would be willing to sell just the windshield side of the brackets separately?

Of course
I'm flexible!
You still have the same number of fasteners to worry about though unless you wanted to modify the screen-side brackets for different hole positions in another screen.

I'm 6'2" and have a 14" Cee Baileys windscreen and love it. I catch a bit of wind at my forehead, but it keeps it off my chest and I can still see over the shield fine. They also make a 16".

Got my Palmer brackets and screen today, installing now. I've run into a hiccup though, I can't seem to get the rubber gromets out of the cowl. I've soaked them in hot soapy water, but still no good. I don't want to break anything... any tips? I'm trying to push the long side through (on the front) as opposed to trying to push the stiffer wide side through from the back.

Thanks,

Josh

Cut them. Getting them in and out, as my uncle said "Its like a Chinese wrestling match"

Nevermind, I got them out fighting them, but I scratched my cowling slightly twice. I guess it can't look like new forever! : (

But yeah I should have just cut them out.

I started with the standard small XB12X screen. Within days I found myself wanting more protection. I went with the California Scientific medium. It works pretty well, but really distracts from the look of the Uly. Another BWB member was looking for a short screen and I offered mine up to him in exchange for his tall screen. I set it in a box and 9 months later found myself trying another option. I ordered the palmer brackets and put the tall screen on them. I have found that with the tall screen and the adjustable brackets from Palmer, that I don't miss the CS screen at all.

I think the Uly looks just as good, if not better with the adjustable brackets.

I'm not sure if they changed anything, but I found that by soaking the cowling for 15 minutes in hot soapy water, the rubber grommets popped right out with just a little coaxing -- I found a jewelers screwdriver enabled me to fit enough of the grommet through the cowling to pop it out with minimal effort.

In summary, I think the California Scientific screen works well, but looks out of place on the Uly. I think the tall screen with the Palmer Brackets looks and works great.

Wayne,

That combo works well for me also.

I didn't have any real trouble getting the grommets out. I did it by hand with no tools.

Sorry Iain, I forgot to post them yesterday. Palmer bracket and large Palmer windscreen. This is in the highest, most sloped position.

Excellent, thanks alot - so shiney!
I'm 6' and I've found the best setting to be lowest position fully forward(away from the rider).
I also have a red belly-pan mudguard and fender extender that would look good on there
