Anyone tried one of these tires on the Uly yet. Results? I was riding the Strada until it a rock ripped it open yesterday on NF-24, 35 miles North of Care Free in 125 degree heat and left me stranded in the Sonoran Desert. Lucky for me some people out joy riding in a jeep found me or my A$$ would have been history. Anyway, the MT90 looks more able to take NF roads more so than the Sync or 616. Thoughts?

Forget it, the front only goes goes down to 19". Any other 17" for say 70% road 30% off or there about?

Search for posts on Avon Distanzia's.
Several folks have/are trying them.
Only issue is that you have to go to a much narrower rear (150 or 160 I think), so you must decide if you are OK with that on the stock wide rim.

I'm spooning on a set of Distanzias next week - will report back after a get 'em scrubbed in. The rear is a 160. Cityxslicker has lots of experience on NF roads here in Wa. & likely elsewhere. Not many choices with the Uly - I liked the Sync's - handled well but needed a bit more dirt orientation. CityX doesnt seem care much for the Avons for the kind or terrain he runs in - but others seem to think it's a good all road tire & good grip on the tarmac.

havent seen the 90s. I ran a set of MT-60s all winter. The work well on compact dirt, mud, slush, snow and wet tarmac. NO GOOD FOR ICE. The hairy part of riding that bike, it that first 100 feet of dirt when you transition off of pavement. ie do not get caught leaning into a corner on dirt! Get in the zen, a couple of seconds to readjust air pressure if you need to, and hit it, throttle on. Have fun, in winter there is never any traffic so pack accordingly.

The avons distinzias. they are fine for pavement. I dont like them for dirt, they have a tendancy to wash out at 45-52 mph on shale pea gravel (most of our FS roads are shale pea gravel) Unfortunately, that is the exact speed I like to run at, it makes corners not as confidence inspiring as the syncs. power through it and get to 55 and all is back on. But 55 on gravel is my redline. Was looking at the Michillins that the TT team run up Pikes Peak with for my next set. Then back to MT60s just in time for winter.
I do air down 5 psi for snow, sludge and sand, for forest roads, I keep the psi the same as on street.

i was at 60+ on a gravel fire road when a rock cut mine this past weekend. i was on a set of diablos. in fact, i have been in the 70 range on long dirt roads w/ out issue. don't even think about corners above 30. the bike is very stable and tracks well. get into trouble, just stand on the pegs w/ weight over airbox. just like a dirt bike. now i'm thinking syncs or back to the 616. my 1st set of 616's got 10k out of them and let me go to the edge of the chicken strips. Buell did switch to the sync after 07 and following all the complaints, i'm sure it was due to the front end "swim" effect the 616 would have at 60-70mph. Not sure about the sync but if it's good enough for Eric, what the hell?

ok, my big mouth with my big foot, they are not michellins. They are Maxxis SuperMoto 17 inch Raintires. Our tire guy has never heard of them.

The Maxxis Pressa M6131 and M6132 are supermotard rains that come in 120/60/17 front and 165/50/17 rear, but it's not DOT and is probably not going to last for very long.

The Pressa M6118/9 have DOT certification on the harder compounds, but the rear is only 160/50/17.

I recently finished a 7000 mile ride on Distanzias. Rear was practically square by the time I got home. Front... almost like new. I did do several hundred miles of off roading on the trip. Extreme heat, high altitude and anything from soft sand, gravel, water, rock, dirt, and washboard riding and the tire performed fine. I had all three bags plus the triple tail bag (80 lbs?)and the tires performed flawless (used nitrogen). Once the rubber began to square up on the rear, I could feel it in cornering on slab, but by then I was on the way back home. I would use them again... now if I had encountered mud... I probably would of chosen to drive around it if possible.

you can run 160's on the rear, the MT-60s are the same size. And by DOT legal... I dont know any cops that are checking that here locally. so if they get me down the road to the trail head, handle some rain, then I am in.

Are any of the XB rear wheels narrower than 5.5" making it essier to mount a 160 section rear tire?
