I want to know why Buell opted for the $187 heated grips as standard equipment for the Uly in 2008 and not the Polly Heater inserts for $40. Can someone PLEASE answer me this question. | ||

I would guess that for Buell, it was not that expensive to add as a standard feature on the new model (hence no increase in msrp). The kit probably costs a lot more to retrofit because we will need a new right hand switch housing to accommodate the new three way grip heater switch. Polly's are great, and I love mine, but I still may upgrade to the Buell system in order to have a cleaner install. | ||

I'm wondering if the grips have just a short wire that plugs into a socket somewhere. Maybe on the control housings? That would be cool and make replacing them an easy task. I really like my Pollys but the Buell set up from what I can see is just as clean looking. And the switch on the control housing is a Godsend!!! Hooray! (Sorry but this has been a dream of mine for quite some time and it's come true). Oh yeah, one last thing. You can use HVMP Bar Ends without any hassles  | ||

I like to use my own grips, Traction from Buell:  this standard option would not allow me to use what grips I wanted (this is what makes Polly heater elements great). From looking at this photo the wire is asking for damage. I'm sure it can resist lots of wear, but it just doesn't seem as good as internal wiring that elements would provide for.  | ||

I have a set of grip heaters just like the OEM Uly ones and my wires do NOT stick down that far. You need enough slack to rotate the throttle and that's it. Plus mine were $25, I can use any grip I want, though I had to drill and put a switch in my fairing... Oh well... The other $162 can be put towards other farkles... | ||

Those are not the $25.00 ones that go below the grip. I beleive the hole grip heats on these. They usually retail for over $100.00. | ||

Are the 2008 heaters and accessory Buell items: 1. Elements placed under the grip or 2. Elements molded into the grip itself? I was thinking of adding heat this fall. When I was working at Arctic Cat, we used a lot of grip heaters (duh). They were all the element under the grip type. Of course, a snowmobile doesn't have a twist throttle to deal with. One of our Japanese controls suppliers made the molded-in-the-grip type, and sent me samples. They were nice, but we opted against them because of the extra cost (something like $7 more, I recall, but that is the OEM price). I believe Yamaha was already using them on their sleds at the time (around 2004). I remember they also made the power windshield machanism/control for the Yami FJR1300 and sent a couple of those. Wish I had kept them now (but they were big and heavy). | ||

Hard to tell but the grips in the picture are different from the standard grips. I'm guessing molded in grips like Hotgrips but with out the need for an ugly resistor.  Edit: after a second look, they definitely look like molded in grips. Hooray! (Message edited by metalstorm on July 17, 2007) |
