I broke the tab on the speedo drive after one ride. I think the drve is being pushed inward and then the tab breaks. Should the edge of the gear drive touch the rim ? I beginning to think it should not.

Spacer 5 seems to be missing?

Anyone have a closeup pic of the gear drive while on the bike?

Thanks

I don't have a pic, but I just had mine apart, the edge of part #4 doesn't really touch the wheel.

Broken tabs can usually be repaired.

The tab usually breaks at the 90 degree bend where it engages the drive hole on the hub. Usually the " arm" which leads up to the 90 degree retains it's full length. If it retains it's full length, a short piece of 1/4" round stock can be welded on as a replacement for the "tab" part of the mechanism.
I'd have to confirm the OD of the round stock again but I think it was 1/4. As long as there's a full arm and the gear drive part of the mechanism hasn't seized or has excessive drag - the fix works well.

The speedo drive gears are only like $30. Might be easier to replace than to fix.

I'm traveling and not able to access info via a normal portal, but I think the part number is 67127-84A. If that's correct (and it might not be...) - current suggested retail on the OE part is about $69.

Originally I had repaired a few because of cost. Now I usually don't want to order and wait for it to come in.
