Wow that is crazy...shop around, Geico wanted over $1200 when I got my 1125 but USAA did it for under $500 with the same coverage. |

I was paying just over $800 a year for my 1125 in Alaska... Now that I'm back in Missouri, it's up to $1200. Been riding for a few years now, and I'm 26, for what it's worth. |

$260 a year for an 1125r. Of course I get the old guy with a bunch of bikes on the policy discount. Cheapest to insure is the klx 250. $75 a year but it was a late add on with only liability and theft and fire. |

This is through Progressive. Its full coverage with $500 deductable. I just have liability on my CR. I think its about 30 amonth. Im not sure why the fulll coverage on a new BMW S10000RR is so high? Seems crazy to me. Ill try some other companies tomorrow. |

^Progressive is your problem. They don't like bikes over 1000cc's. I have an XB and an 1125. When I added the 1125 full coverage onto my XB policy mine went from 420 a year for just the XB to 4200 a year for both. I called around and Geico was 1000 a year for both bikes, towing, and some gear coverage. I just went with Geico. Your best bet is to call around. Every bike is different with every company. My friend just upgraded from a CBR250 to a 696 Monster and her insurance is only like 600 a year with Progressive but with others was way higher. It really depends on where the insurance gets their data for crash statistics and how they classify the bike. Nationwide told her they classify it off of how upright the sitting position is on the bike. Insurance is all about finding the right company for your area and type of bike. |

My '09 1125r is insured through Safeco, with liability plus Comprehensive for $131 per year. My advice would be to call an independent agent, who would take the time to advise you on coverages, and quote multiple companies. If you have a loan on the bike, you have to have full coverage but if not, you may consider not carrying the Collision coverage. I figure, if I wreck my bike bad enough to turn in a collision claim, then I have bigger problems than fixing my bike. Everyone has different comfort levels but that is mine. |

Comparing insurance with other people online is a bit pointless, as you will never get any meaningful data. They are not you, and even with the same bike and same zip code they will not have the same rate as you as there are dozens of factors involved including your driving record, age, gender, and the amount of coverage. When someone says they pay 1/50th of what you pay for insurance, they don't tell you they are paying for so little coverage that the insurance company will do nothing but laugh at you when something happens. Shop around a few major providers and make a decision based on good coverage and good rates. You will find good and bad reviews for all insurance companies if you look around enough, honestly they are all a crap shoot. |

For what it is worth, on a 1125, I recommend getting full coverage minus collision, as short of something major like going off a cliff, you are unlikely to to cause major damage to the bike. They can be repaired fairly inexpensively on your own, but with collision coverage it won't take too much to quickly get it past the point of being totaled. You would still have coverage for something beyond your control like theft or fire, and coverage to pay any hospital bills I can't speak for your BMW, I would consult with some other riders on a BMW forum to see what they recommend. I've got my 1125 insured with Dairyland Cycle. They were significantly cheaper than Progressive. I'd give them a call for a quote. |

I called Dairyland and got a $700 a year quote on the 2013 BMW S1000RR and they include full coverage on my 2004 Buell XB12S. Saving me $1100 a year. Thanks for the suggestion. Im going to the dealer tomorrow to hammer out a deal on the Bimmer. Sad to say Ill be trading my 1125 CR in since they would hardly give me anything on the XB. |

I think you are making a good choice, the S1000 will complement the XB nicely. Good luck. |

Nothing compared to BC, Canada... The insurance company here has a monopoly. I pay $1600 a year for basic insurance coverage (required) and $260 for comprehensive coverage through another private company. The amount we pay for motorcycles is based off of how big the engine size.. cruisers get the short end of the stick here. (Message edited by bartone on June 21, 2013) |

Check with Ryder insurance. I think it is very reasonable they rate it like Harley Davidson tour bike not a sport bike. Theoretically I believe its cheap than insuring a 1200cc Sportster because its only 1125cc. |

Here in Sweden its not the engine size its weight and power my 103" (1690) FLHX cost about 500 USD full coverage a year , the 1125r is one of the cheapest sportbikes to insure here in Sweden i check insurance price for ZX10R about 3000 USD . If you take a bike without fairing they call it street bike and its a lot cheaper to insure |

I pay $350 per year at Geico for 2 bikes. Buell is more expensive than my BMW, but the BMW alone was more expensive at Geico, than Buell alone. This is for full coverage. BMW has $200 deductible for collision, Buell - $1000. Policy premium for Buell is $213. Before I was at BMW insurance, but it was to expensive to insure Buell there. So far the cheapest to insure was Buell Blast at Geico, it was $80 per year full coverage! I regret selling it. |

Geico is a horrible company, let me tell you a story. You can save alot of money by switching to geico...until you need that insurance then you were better off just saving the premium in a savings acct every month cuz they are gonna a$$ rape you prison style. So about 6 years ago I was riding along when a drunk decided that i was a speed bump and it was easier to go over me than pass from behind. slid down the road with my xb9 on top of me. Vanson pro perf jacked saved my skin. walked away with a blister on my pinky toe where my docs were grated away. that was it for being steamrolled from behind at 60 mph (i was going 45). So geico looks at my bike that was towed to the nearest Hardley stealership. It had a dented frame where they would soon introduce frame pucks to cover. Right at the seam it was caved in the size of a softball. All was pretty routine with the estimate and claims guy. Till he announces that geico isnt going to pay for a new frame cuz the dented one can be welded and banged back into shape. I do some due diligence research and discover that Hardley does not publish frame tolerances and dimensions so people cannot try to fix a smashed frame and end up with an unsafe bike. especially a frame that holds gas. geico stands firm and says they will only pay 3500 of a 5500 repair. I decide to at least see what their frame expert has to say. they send a pickup truck from hoss's welding and blowtorch shop to get my bike at the stealership. After Hoss takes a look at it I call him and ask what he thinks. i remind him that hardley does not publish frame dimensions and tolerances so there is no way to get the frame back into factory spec (which is what my policy states). Hoss says that he can make it look good as new. I of course ask if it will be as stable and true as new. he says not 100% but it will LOOK good. So I call geico and tell them to pound salt that there is no way I am letting them happer the frame back into line. they say they arent paying to transport it back to the dealership since they paid Hoss to come get it. I go pick it up and take it back to the stealership on my own. geico says they will put a new frame on it from the factory if i agree to all aftermarket parts like foot pegs and turn signals and muffler. They say they have a good relationship with a junk yard that can get me some good honda and suzuki parts too if i want to get a real buell frame i will have to deal with that. I lost a whole riding season with these thieves. ended up spending 3000 out of pocket (including deductable) to have all real buell parts used and the work done by someone who knew the diffrence between an xb9s and a toro lawn mower. and learned a newfound hatred for stupid green amphibians. i honestly stomp on any little lizards i see now. |

I worked with a guy in n. Va. who had a government employees insurance company (GEICO) policy on a pick-up,well he was hit in an accident, but was able to drive the truck home where he parked it in his driveway, before the adjuster came out to look at the truck he was doing some carpentry work on his house, and what goes better than summer time, power tools and beer, and the empties he threw in the back of the truck. Now the adjuster shows up sees all the empties in the back of the truck, and the next thing you know they cancel his policy. |
